Consolation Match 3 antonylee-frank0 mkgnao-m1cha elwood913-ovncylmz zebutin-smerriman cherdano-gordontd barmar-stoppiello Match 4 antonylee-m1cha frank0-elwood913 mkgnao-ovncylmz zebutin-cherdano smerriman-barmar gordontd-stoppiello All four losers in Quarter Final dropped in as the 33th percentile - from the bottom (between 5th and 6th places out 8 players). We have time until Sunday 7PM NYC time to wrap this 2 x 12 boards up. Then we will have a 5th and final round based on the new standings. Good luck to everybody! Cheers p.s. smerriman and cherdano, please do your best at least accepting your game vs. zebutin before Friday so he can play (he is gone for the weekend, so worst case scenario you accept by Thursday so he can play early and you can finish even on Sunday)

Umm, maybe my explanation was not clear. Original plan was to start the consolation at the same time with R16. So normally those guys would have played two matches, then people losing in R16 drop in, but worked differently. My observation from ACBL and WBF for the transition from KO to pairs is similar to what I did. People who lose in the group stage start playing Open Pairs Qualification. People who continue in KO and then lose may drop the to Pair event in Semi Final , but they do not start in front of the others - they are placed somewhere in the middle of the pack. Because of the time issue, we started the consolation little bit late, and it was convenient to include R16 losers. However, it would be unfair to people in the Swiss if they tried their chance in KO and also start from the top of the Swiss.

SEMI FINALS sfi-nige1 stephen tu-olegru Good luck! CONSOLATION We are waiting for the antonylee-mkgnao match for the announcement of next round! zebutin & smerriman, do you want to join the Consolation event right now?

Hey Gordon, For carryover: 1) For people who got knocked out in the groups: We give 50% of VPs they collected. 2) People who got knocked out in the R16: After ordering the guys above (only 5 of them registered), we put these guys somewhere between the 3rd and 4th place with some weighted average - so assuming a fluid field, it is 33.33th percentile (from lowest to highest VP). The goal of the consolation is mainly fun, and original plan was to include R16 losers in the later stages of a longer Swiss - however, the re-registration (for consolation) period took a while and the number was lower than our expectation. I believe that it would be unfair to give R16 losers 50% of VPs they collected in the group stage, because they actually played in the KO Stage. 33.33th percentile was kind of random, but it will be the same for QF losers if the tournament is 5-rounds. If only 4 rounds, I think we may need to put them to 50th percentile to give them a shot. (Note: I will only play if the total number is odd to even it up, so I don't have any personal ambition or something doing this:) )

cherdano - broze. You guys need to finish very soon. Unfortunately we cannot keep you in the tournament if you only play 32boards/week.

Consolation first two matches: Match 1 mkgnao-antonylee frank0-stoppiello gordontd-barmar elwood913-m1cha Match 2 mkgnao-frank0 antonylee-stoppiello gordontd-elwood913 barmar-m1cha You guys have one week (Until next Saturday 7pm NY time) to complete your matches. Each match is 12 boards. The game order is not important, so you can send both matches at the same time. Please follow the last workshet "Consolation" in the Dropbox file for the cumulative results. Next week we will add some QF losers (if there is interest) and announce 2 or 3 more matches - based on the speed of the real tournament. [simple rule: Basically if the semi finals are completed by the announcement, will be only 2 matches. Otherwise 2 in the new announcement + 1 after those 2 games completed as the final Swiss round.]

gordontd, nullve, diana_eva, nekthen, barmar: If any of you are interested in playing the Consolation Swiss, please tell me within 24 hours - so we include you from the very first match. Consolation Swiss first two matches will be announced here around approximately TOMORROW 11AM - New York time.
-
People who lose in the R16 can also join Consolation event - they need to register before Sunday. Right now we have only 5 people (knocked out in the group stage), and we try to make it 5+3 ish so we can have a nice Swiss.
-
Let's start Saturday the earliest:) I wouldn't mind but it may be difficult to follow stages. Also consolation event starts tomorrow.

The tentative version of R16 pairings is in the Excel file. Frank0 will go over the IMP-VP conversion tonight and confirm (or correct) the results. Then he will post the bracket here. You can start your games after Frank0 posts the pairings.. 4x16boards.. Good luck!
-
We are aware of this, but the rule was set at the beginning and was an improvement compared to earlier IMP difference system. Originally, I prefer the system where 1-8 picks 9-16, however it may take a long time here - since we have to make everybody get online at the same time, which is impossible. In the next tournament, we will see certain improvements. Cheers.
-
There must be worksheets at the bottom, you can change the group..
-
I would go and finish my challenge game first;)
-
Please go to very first page of this post - there is a Dropbox link there from the beginning (Or here for you: https://www.dropbox.com/ow/msft/edit/home/BBF%20event3/BBF%20event%203.xlsx?hpt_click_ts=1475457173200 ).. Click it - you will see an Excel file. You can go and visit all groups in different worksheets. By now.. dadim x 13.04 16.26 18.87 19.16 12.03 [79.36] smerriman 6.96 x 14.39 13.75 13.75 5.61 [54.46] hrothgar 3.74 5.61 x -- 6.48 6.25 [22.08] manudude03 1.13 6.25 -- x 18.21 7.71 [33.3] elwood913 0.84 6.25 13.52 1.79 x 7.71 [30.11] stoppiello 7.97 14.39 13.75 12.29 12.29 x [60.69] If you cannot do Excel, try to read the table above. One match left and you are 2nd in the group.
-
We have two matches left: Manudude03 vs. Hrothgar Mkgnao vs. Cherdano Both games are quite important for KO qualification. Good luck to players, please finish before Tuesday morning!
-
Yep, such a close call. We will go over the results one more time to make sure that everything is correct before posting the Top-16 round pairings.
-
It was fun! 3 continents, different time zones, but we finished the tournament in less than 12 hours - hope we can do a similar event in another weekend :) Cheers all!
