  1. You will play against multiple opponents without being knocked out - 12/16 boards each x 4-5 matches. This is actually a good idea when there are no clear seedings (compared to KO when two top players may play very early and one loses immediately). Given you play around ~60 boards in the first stage (more than 32 of the current event) and multiple (2 or 3) players qualify from each group, actually we believe that it will be a lot "less random". And of course, the KO stage (Top-8) will be starting from 64 boards with final being 96 boards. The competition is cool, we also need to make this fun - so we thought it is a good idea to give people more interaction with others - groups then KO+consolidation. So when you lose in group stage, you don't wait 4 weeks for others to compete and finish - you will have a chance to play in consolidation if you want to play. You will see the announcement today.
  2. Hello everybody, so we start the registration window for the new event. Please register through here or send me a message from BBO (make sure you get a confirmation if you send via BBO)! Here are the initial details: I am thinking of some system with groups in which everybody plays at least 4 or 5 short matches (~12boards). It will be non-best hand and IMPs as Event #2. People already won at least a match in Event #2 will be seeded based on the number of wins - the rest and new entrants will be randomly placed in the groups. The group stage will be ~48 to 60 boards and will be played in two weeks. Then top 8 players will go to KO stage for the championship. The players who cannot make it to KO will join a "consolidation swiss" (if they want to continue) where they start with some points - some percentage based on the number of matches in the group. At the end, we will just allocate some masterpoints. Tomorrow frank0 will make a new post with the rules we thought of. We are open to ideas to improve this league, so we can discuss the system during the registration window (Today to Next Sunday, 9 days-window). We will make the draw and start the tournament. Please spread the word! >> Btw, congrats Zebutin, also Nullve, Dadim and Diana_eva for making it to top four.
  3. So nullve-zebutin 4 x 16.. Goodluck! Btw, as soon as that match ends, I open up registration for the next tournament. The tournament style will include something where everybody plays at least 3 matches. I will post for the details.
  4. I think we may start the registration stage for the next event to start ASAP:) I will post the details in a few days.
  5. ovncylmz - diana_eva: 72-74 (30-34) (19-13) (23-27) Congrats to diana_eva, good luck in SF! 6. Me, dadim, zebutin, nullve is almost always online. I don't know about others but I think 3 x 16 shouldn't be that difficult.
  7. Current status: Phil[+1] vs manudude03 ovncylmz[+45] vs smerriman olegru vs diana_eva[+16] dadim[+81] vs barmar zebutin[+65+X > 81] vs eagles123 jeffford76[+17] vs frank0 broze vs nullve[+36] hrothgar vs wackojack[+8] QF pairings is.. Hope smerriman confirms for zebutin's > +81 win and phil's +1 default.. zebutin vs. phil dadim vs. wackojack ovncylmz vs. diana_eva nullve vs. jeffford76 I really think that 48boards is a good idea, what do you guys think?
  8. Hello everybody, For the next stages and future tournaments: If you see your challenge is "yellow" after one or two days, please cancel it and resend it. This will take care of most of the problems about time issues.
  9. Unfortunately, smerriman announced at the very beginning it is based on "win margin" which is proven to create problems, i.e., zebutin vs. eagles123 and phil vs. manudude03 games. Give him one or two more days. Btw, I heard today is that eagles123 rejected the challenge sent by zebutin for the second set. By the way, does anybody have a good idea on how to solve the situation for hrothgar game if the game expires? If wackojack does not get the proper penalty for this, I have a feeling that people may just start leaving for a few days(!) after they have a few bad boards in the set they are playing [Note: I don't say wackojack did this, but giving no punishment opens this up for games in the future]
  10. @Phil - If you don't hear anything by tomorrow night, you should win and your seed for QF should be determined by a draw. @Hrothgar @Wackojack - Any news? @Zebutin @Eagles123 - What is happening?
  11. Current status: Phil vs manudude03 [no news from manudude03, phil is also away] ovncylmz(+45) vs smerriman olegru vs diana_eva(+16) dadim(+81) vs barmar zebutin(+65, not complete) vs eagles123 [will eagles123 play? not sure] jeffford76(+17) vs frank0 broze vs nullve (+36) hrothgar vs wackojack(+4, not complete) [wackojack is away, hrothgar played all 32]
  12. Yea that is why I will just get bbochallenge@gmail.com :) Then people can simply email to that address and a mail-list will work perfect for the arrangements - you can see things here too, but also you will get an email if something important happens (hrothgar and phil's cases).
  13. I am willing to take the responsibility (possibly with frank0) at least for for a few of the future events, but I think that we should really have a better way to communicate than bbo forums. Maybe registration and game info sharing are made through email - when people know each other's email etc., I feel that things will be a lot more organized.
  14. Did you cancel the challenge? Btw, manudude03 maybe didn't even know that the tourney continues for him.. Manudude03 & wackojack -- This whole thing becomes messy, if someone is not able to play 16 BBO boards in 3 days or 32 BBO boards in a week (each set takes possibly less than 45 minutes) or does not know how to use challenge tool, then really shouldn't enter this tournament.
  15. Starting from quarter finals, I strongly suggest everyone to leave his/her opponent his/her email address via BBO messaging as the first thing. With this, players will be able to contact each other a lot easier - also I suggest everyone to communicate his/her opponent via BBO, not here:) One final note, it is always a great idea to cancel and send challenge again if the challenge you sent is still yellow.
  16. If it is still yellow, why don't you cancel and resend?
  17. Guys, why don't you just bbo chat with your opponent (or leave him a message instead of writing here!?) and take care of these problems? If somebody knows wackojack, maybe he/she can contact via phone/email/facebook or something and make him play. Otherwise, it will not be nice - he should have canceled the challenge.
  18. seeding: we should possibly discuss this before the other event starts.. spingold system requires accumulation of points, we are just playing the 2nd tournament right now - may be tricky.. maybe we can go with something like 1st place 10, 2nd place 5, 3/4th 2, 5/8th 1 points and take average until 5th tournament, then start for accumulation.. like a masterpoint system.. bracket: looks standard..
  19. Yes but unfortunately differential is the criteria (this is the rule for this event) for pairings in the next round.
  20. what do u guys think about 48 boards for QF and SF and 64 boards for final?
  21. I think he should play even if it is irrelevant for him at this point, because the differential is important in seedings. Not making a bracket is a bad idea because of such reasons, now we have to figure out an adjustment for the second set to seed zebutin.
  22. Ovncylmz-Smerriman: First set: 10-15 Second set: 53-3 Total: 63-18 (+45) http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:93c7a2e4.6f10.11e6.8e99.0cc47a39aeb4-1472602767&u=ovncylmz http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:4f3f2423.6f2f.11e6.8e99.0cc47a39aeb4-1472615966&u=ovncylmz To be honest, I was pretty disappointed with my performance in this match and I was expecting to lose by little after the second set. I was surprised when I saw +50. Then, I saw that GIBs were not nice to my opponent as they were to me.
  23. Okay.. Ovncylmz-Vampyr, first set 47-0, second set 11-2. Links: http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:7a002d9e.6865.11e6.8e99.0cc47a39aeb4-1471869572&u=ovncylmz http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:6fe4d27e.6ccd.11e6.8e99.0cc47a39aeb4-1472354028&u=ovncylmz Thanks Vampyr! Good 2nd set, I was lucky in the first set. I agree with Phil that we should be faster and I believe we will be faster with the 2nd round. I suggest a bracket based on the first round results. Top-8 (based on differences) will be placed 1 to 8 spots in a regular bracket and 9-12 will be randomized to 1-4 and 13-16 will be randomized to 5-8. What do you guys think? Ovunc
  24. I heard that dadim is +37 vs. mrace. (final result 48-11) My opponent (vampyr) didn't show up for the second set for last 4 or 5 days. I was up by 47, so I assume that I also won at this point.
