  1. I think it's likely we'll have to make a decision over 3♠ on this hand.
  2. Wow I'm like the only person who would open this 2♠ if I wasn't playing light-ish openers :) But having opened 1♠, this is a 4♦ bid.
  3. agree with gnasher's original analysis. I also just wanted declarer to misguess ♣.
  4. Also you can stop lower sometimes in invitational sequences, ie you can stop in 2M on a 5-2 or 5-3 fit instead of playing 2NT or 3M on some hands, which granted is a small victory but a victory nonetheless.
  5. If I have a long auction and I can see the opponents bouncing their heads back and forth trying to remember everything, I just tell them I'll leave the bids out until they make a lead. I'm not certain it's best to mandate the practice, because I agree with jdonn, but common sense suggests that sometimes people should do it anyway.
  6. Telling the same stories to different audiences is no indicator of age.
  7. If partner cared that you have a min with ♥, he might have asked.
  8. I remember you telling me this story in Vegas, I think. It made me happy then and it makes me happy now. This is a good way to handle it, and you get to have a little fun with them too.
  9. Did this practice work? Couldn't they ask "What does this bid mean?" even if it wasn't alerted to the same effect?

  11. Actually the stat I posted is available just by clicking the number under "Replies" in the subforum list thing. Posts/topics ratio could be done by looking at this number for all threads started (I assume manually one by one) and keeping track of whatever poster you're interested in (or making a spreadsheet for all of them). Probably not too hard, come to think of it.
  12. Would you believe me if I told you I counted? No you may not. -That's doable, but it would require a time frame and a list of posters. I don't intend to do it. -That should be easy. Do it yourself imo. -The denominator in my intelligent/stupid post count is remarkably high.

  15. I'd bid 1♠ because I think it more or less will achieve the same thing as 2♥ while being more descriptive. Any number of good things can happen: Partner raises spades, partner bids NT and I can raise ♥, partner jump shifts and I can bid 4♥, partner bids again after 1♥ 1♠ 2m 2♥. The only concern is when partner has a hand that makes game good opposite this hand with 3♥ but not this hand with 2♥, and I think that's a pretty small target.
  16. AK2. sorry, was rather late when i was typing that in. Well that makes my bids clear imo. I thought the ♣x might be an Uno card or something and we'd have a different class of problems.
  17. This is a bit sarcastic? Did you notice we got all the spot cards except for the club? Could be a trap. Did you also notice it's a balanced minimum opposite a passed hand?

  19. I think 4♥ is normal and anything beyond 4♥ is bonkers. There will frequently be transportation issues in 3NT. Why would we be terribly excited about our ♠K being of full value? We still have lots of little ♠ to get rid of. It's still full value at ♥ as it is at NT. It's still a misfitting hand with insufficient values for slam and several ♠ losers.
  20. Definitely game. Whenever an opponent bids NT naturally over our suit bid, you know, promising tricks in our suit, and especially red/white at imps, we need a little bit extra to do things like jump in the auction. A jump to 3♠ here should not be a weak balanced hand with 4♠. It should be neither weak nor balanced.
  21. I would like to know what the x in ♣ is before I decide to pass and bid 3♥ with my balanced minimum opposite a passed hand.
