Ya 2♠ is fine. I play this as a HSGT with many partners, and if partner leaps to 4♥ i can bid 5NT. If he tries to sign off I'll settle with the small slam.

Obv I got the idea for this thread from the wiki thing I linked. I intended the scenario to be like that of a prisoner. You have X time until you die, you have no control of X, and your options are to either eat your last meal or to just sit patiently until X expires. If you can control X or how you spend the time, then people might feel differently about how they handle it, but I intended it to be a completely hypothetical situation.

I'm pretty sure mine would be a mishmash of lots of different delicious food items. Caprese salad, bacon wrapped BBQ shrimp, eel sushi, onion rings, ceviche, steak and lobster tail, cookies and cream ice cream, root beer sounds about right to me.

4♠ is a huge overbid

I would much rather ruff ♦ with anything besides my long ♥ if those were to end up as trumps via a double. Playing in a 3-3 ♠ fit is a real possibility as well. I'll pay off to partner being some 4333 and bid 3♣

While Hamman's preferences for general approach might not be everyone's cup of tea and "innovative" might not be a good way to describe his approach, there are definitely no loose ends in his bidding. I know for a fact he is still looking for ways to improve his agreements, too.

I don't like the 4♠ bid. It ate up way too much room in the auction. I'm no SAYC wizard, but isn't 3♠ forcing in this auction? After standard blackwood, I would bid slam with the understanding that this is a great way to piss off a new partner. I just think we have way more in our hand than we've been able to show so far in the auction and if partner is the one making slam tries, then our hand is really darn good. Maybe the opponents don't cash both their aces against us if they have 2 cashing aces. Many advanced players have a way to show a void with their response to blackwood, but these responses force the partnership to slam anyway, so against these pairs we come out exactly even.

I feel less strongly about 1 than 2. 1♠ overcalls could certainly work, particularly over a negative response from RHO as it could be our hand and we could easily have a fit, and this might be our last chance to bid ♠ at a comfortable level. The auction could easily be at 3 or 4♥ at our next turn to bid and we'll wish we had done something originally. On the other hand, if it is our hand, we might get a chance to make a takeout double of ♥ sometime in the auction, which is much more flexible and doesn't commit to only one strain, so that is sort of ideal with this hand. If your partner is on the same wavelength and you've agreed to overcall aggressively at the one level in their precision auctions, then I dont mind a 1♠ overcall. If you happen to be playing suction or something, I'd be comfortable calling this a 2-suited hand. If the opponents are in a game forcing auction, then I would be less inclined to stick my neck out.

+1 takeout. +1 pass with 4333 or 4432. It's much easier to take 4 tricks than 11 with no shape at all.
