  1. Edit: sorry, balancing double. I guess 2♦ is good.
  2. "Miss Universe" is awfully presumptuous, isnt it?
  3. You make 4 instead of making 5 which is not that great at matchpoints Thanks  Actually I asked my mother-in-law a few moments after I clicked "add reply" and she filled me in on what I was missing. I guess that's why I really suck at MP games... I have a bit of tunnel vision when it comes to making my contract. I have nothing to add to this thread. I just wanted to welcome you to the Forums, Kivgaen. Hopefully reading some of the threads here will broaden your vision.
  4. Manoj, If you read the posts above, you will find that it seems Meckwell were made aware that the opponents played Multi BEFORE the match started. None of the information shared here came from the players themselves, and some of the pieces of information are conflicting. I agree with this. So far we've gotten some speculation and then, possibly, some facts from people who seem to be very biased in favor of the Singapore team. They may very well have told the story exactly as it happened, and I think it's likely that they have, but until either Meckstroth or Rodwell or the TD come in and explain what they perceived to have happened, then I think it's inappropriate to judge anyone's actions.
  5. When I hear Venezuala, I think about countries other than Venezuala.

  8. That looks delicious. I also have an aversion to LOTS of capers though. You can keep those.
  9. I also don't like olives nor tahini, so I think we can safely say bitter is not better for me.
  10. We already cashed the ♥A. We're finessing LHO against Jxxx, not the ♠ overcaller.
  11. Sounds to me like Nihilism is the big winner if you want everyone to get along, as long as it's not accompanied by despair.
  12. In addition to the structures Mike proposes, many people include the invitational 4-card raises into 2NT as well as the GF hands. Now it's possible to sign off in 3M after 2NT LR+ with a 3♣ bid (any minimum hand). The structure I play with some people includes 1M 2NT 3♣ being minimums, 3♦ being mediumish hands, and other bids showing maxes or showing voids. Various relays after 3♣ and 3♦ allow both hands to reveal shortnesses. So we wrap a few extra meanings into 2NT and lose a little bit of cuebidding accuracy, but we get some gains in pinpointing voids/singletons and the relative strength of opener* *This is in the context of a strong club system, which is probably outside the scope of what you're interested in, but it just means the ranges for minimum, medium, and maximum are a little more narrowly defined. My structure is probably less suitable to a 2/1 system, making Mike's suggested followups probably better.
  13. Interesting. I speculate there's nothing down there :)
  14. Your partner knew he was gambling and this time he lost. That happens sometimes in bridge; better luck next time :)
  15. This is why people employ a serious/nonserious bid when they're cuebidding. Opener would say "nonserious: i don't have a great hand" and N would likely sign off or maybe stretch and hope for a ♦ cue as one last try. It's really important to be consistent in the auction, though, especially when partner is unlimited AND searching for slam. If you think your hand was a 1♠ bid to begin with, it must remain a 1♠ bid throughout the entire auction. People who jump to 4♠ opposite an unlimited partner don't understand how to bid.
  16. I don't like artichokes at all. Not even a little.
