  1. so they get two chances to always beat 3NT, either red suit lead or ♥+♦switch, and then you're still on a club finesse, and you're upset that you went +130? Even a spade lead and a ♦ switch could be enough to beat this. If the club hook is off, ANY lead will beat it. seems sort of silly. They could even duck ♠ twice and then you'll have communication problems. It seems to me that 3NT only makes because of a miracle layout and nobody in the room defending like a human being. I know this is resulting, but the fact that no game makes isnt enough to convince you that this is perfectly fine? Getting to 4♠ is impossible anyway.
  2. I'd bid at the table. Maybe a 1♠ overcall. Second choice is obv 1NT. I personally would never balance with Doub's hand. As stupid as it sounds, it doesn't look impossible to me that the 1NT bidder didn't see the 1♦ opener or he has a good 10 count or partner is going to bid too much if I balance, and while I'm willing to be convinced otherwise, intuitively it seems like bean counting is sufficient to realize that this hand sucks and warrants a pass. One argument for bidding is that partner rates to have ♦ so my JT might be useful, so at least one point in my hand has some value. Though it also seems like they have a spade fit, so there's not reason to expect they aren't getting 170 or 140 instead of 150 or 120, so there's some chance passing is right even when we have a fit. But whatever, pass with Wildavsky's hand is fine too. Either way could work out. Meck's been noted as saying something along the lines of "If you have a choice between bidding and passing, you should bid" so that's what I try to do.

  4. All I can say is that my life is pretty plain I like watching the puddles gather rain
  5. I suppose it is. Anyway, there's a list of unusual deaths. Maybe you could find a suggestion for an accident there. :)
  6. Unless I know the opponents well and figure out they might be bidding 2NT on lots of hands that might have bid one of the majors, it seems like partner is 5-5 so I'll pass quietly and hope I'm not supposed to double. I think the chances of LHO doubling 3♣ profitably are not small.
  7. Right. If he had something like Qxx or something, then it might be ambiguous what he intended his bid to mean and we wouldn't have any evidence to suggest what methods they play. On the actual hand I think it's clear what they play and that it is much more likely that someone misunderstood (I believe it was HH against Fantoni and Nunes, so language might have played some role). Also, this was behind screens, so if the story is to be believed where N was told by E that pass denied a stopper, then you'd have the guy with KJ976 telling his opponent no stopper. I think that's totally unbelievable, which is why I said I'd be shocked if that actually happened. I suppose I should have clarified that the events were unbelievable to me and not the possibility of pass being more than one thing.
  8. Except this year he's only playing 1 hole, then he's done.
  9. killing time at work. i think you're doing it wrong.
  10. Weird. I thought it was 3♣ on my right and I was still debating between pass, 3♠, and dbl. This seems like an easy pass.
  11. You both realize he has KJ976 of ♣, right? And wasnt this Helgemo-Helness? My point is, I'd be shocked if they didn't know their agreement or someone misbid. It seems much, much more likely that there was a misunderstanding than either of them giving the wrong explanation. Edit: Unless you honestly think he denied a stopper and that was their agreement, but then I'd say you're nuts or on a different level than I am.

During a 125-mile (201 km) "training flight", Valentich contacted Melbourne air traffic control, saying he "was being buzzed by a UFO with four bright lights about 1,000 feet (300 m) above him." Nazi Bell "The Bell is said to be an experiment carried out by Third Reich scientists working for the SS in a German facility known as Der Riese ("The Giant")[3] near the Wenceslaus mine. Cook and Witkowski visited the site for the UK Channel 4 documentary UFOs: the Hidden Evidence (aka An Alien History of Planet Earth). The device is described as metallic, approximately 9 feet wide and 12 to 15 feet high with a shape similar to a bell. It contained two counter-rotating cylinders filled with a substance similar to Mercury that glowed violet when activated, known only as Xerum 525[4] it has been speculated to be Red mercury.[5] When active, The Bell would emit strong radiation, which led to the death of several scientists[6] and various plant and animal test subjects.[4] " Tesla Is the man. 14. I guess I just don't see what the problem is. That CC looks fine to me, too. They seem to play natural over a 1♣ opener, Michaels over 1♦ and astro over majors.
  15. isn't 2♦ artificial and GF? can i splinter in support of ♣ with 3♦? I'd do one of those I think. 3♣ over whatever partner bids after 2♦.
  16. It's third and fourth seats, not second, who should be told to pay attention. lol... ok.
  17. I'd call the TD. I also have no idea what the TD should decide. Alternatively, second seat should have bid and/or paid attention.
  18. 5nt is always pick a slam. Inside joke, sorry. No serious answer.
  19. I would be totally shocked if anyone was told pass denies a stopper. This seems way elementary to me.
