  1. Double for sure on the first round. Pass could be the winner on the 2nd round (wrong black shape) but I think you have to go with 4D (partner can still have 4 hearts and a min, or 1345 even).
  2. This happens very often. I personally have been in the situation to dump to help my chances of winning the event twice. I believe it's against the spirit of the game to do this, but as has been noted some would say it's unethical for me NOT to dump. I have also been in the position where I could get screwed by dumping and although they rested their best pair, they didn't dump.
  3. Only if you have the hand records. For instance, there is only one winning play after you ruff the spade lead, and that is to advance the DT and pinning the stiff 9. Good luck finding that one! Anyways, just because the final result is terrible does not make the bidding bad.
  4. wow@ this thread. If you won't bid 2N with BOTH suits unstopped and 5332 then when will you!
  5. heh, I thought I only had 8 tricks. I think 4N is right Edit: yes pass is forcing though imo.
  6. You and your partner both agreed on that because you wanted some way to reach this 24 HCP slam. If you had 7 clubs and a good hand you would not have agreed with that thought (nor would your partner have had that thought). That is human behavior, so hopefully the fact that no one agrees with your here is meaningful. The downsides of being forced to bid 5C when you have clubs are that you have a much tougher time bidding club slams when you have a club one suiter, and you have a much tougher time finding the right fit when you are like 1237 and partner can still have 6 hearts or 5 diamonds. Your suit might not even be that great, so jumping to 5C opposite what could be a sitff or void sucks. The first suit you bid is clubs, and there's no reason you shouldn't have long clubs or be able to get to the right contract when you do. There is also no reason for you to think you have a good hand here. You have a crappy hand unless partner has specifically Ax of clubs, and non wasted diamonds (ie the ace), and good trumps (ie the AQ), and a spade control. If you used 4C as a cuebid for hearts you would never do it on a hand this weak when you could have much more, like a 14 count. Stop resulting!
  7. Good thought helene, 3D as art 65 might be good, but I think bidding 3S with 65 and taking your chances is fine. Especially if your style is like mine to often overcall 1S with 65 unless pretty weak or very strong. I think doubling with 553 is a bad idea, and having a natural 3D bid is both useful and practical.
  8. "WTP, 2N shows 5(332), who cares about stoppers?"
  9. Yes, obvious redouble. You have 10 points with excellent defense and short hearts. You might well get to double 2 of a minor if partner has some spade length which is great. If they have a spade fit you'll probably get to bid 1N next.
  10. Agree, I would add with very good hearts also.
  11. I'm a strong believer in bidding 2S, but many great players that I know including meckwell and cheek/grue believe in bidding 2N, and 2S shows 6.
  12. Just bid 4H. 4C just shows clubs, and even if 4H and 4C were both raises your hand sucks so you would bid 4H.
  13. Nooooooooo. This was fine to me.
  14. Well 3N is an absolutely horrible bid. North should not want to play 3N with those round suits, and no diamond stopper. If north bids 3S over 3C south can probably drive it. If north bids 4C then 4D 4S will get you there.
  15. Jdonn you overrate solid players. The average solid player would not know what 4C is here imo. Obviously this is more of a guessing game and you have more info than us on how old your partner is, where he's from, how convention oriented he is, etc. In general in these spots just try to safety play the auction to cater to all possibilities.
  16. A lot of people play 2C majors here. It works well on hands like this, and if you have clubs you were probably gonna get outbid by majors anyways.
  17. yeah whats the problem
