Sorry but in a real bridge contest nobody will do anything other than open 4S. It is only in the BBF fantasy land that anyone does something like opening 5S (or maybe in Australia somewhere). Things like that simply do not happen in a real bridge competition which most of the BBF fantasy land has never been a part of. In the real bridge world this is not a bidding problem.

Yeah, I agree with your totally point and I didn't doubt your numbers, was just surprised because if you had asked me "how often do you or your partner have 21+HCP" I would have said once every 20 boards or something lol. Again, I just think it's my brain associating other very strong hands with less HCP as being in that range.

This is a good example hand, and I agree with fluffy that 5035 is possible while 6034 is not (since 3D is NF).

Why is this a problem if your other option is to play 2N? I guess it's possible 2N is better sometimes but I would rate playing 1m (especially clubs) to be right way more often. It's not like you can magically get to 3 of your best fit after opening 2N.

This is takeout, 3136 16 count or w/e is typical. As far as I can tell I have FIVE card support for partner and 2 kings and a stiff, passing over 3H was criminal. You must bid at least 4 clubs then. Now you can bid 5C.

BTW this seems like an excellent hand to play the meckwell convention that 2H then 5C+ are answering keycards for spades. So 1N 2H 2S 5S, 2+Q. If your hand takes control it seems impossible to bid 7 when it is correct (partner won't know about your specific kings, you won't know about his source of tricks that lack the king) unless you play 1N 4H 4S 4N 5H 6C shows the CK (also a meckwell treatment lol).
