Exactly. It's that simple. Similarly on defense you defend for both players, and avoid having them make decisions by doing them yourself or making clear signals. I once jokingly said that I would never pitch a 5,6, or 7 no matter what.

I don't see why bidding 2D over 2C would show 6. It is routine to bid 2D on almost any 1453 over 2C playing forcing NT. If you don't you will get to a lot of 3-3 fits.

I did not think this was offensive at all. The international bridge press is often brutal when they write up some of my....adventures... but they have been very kind to me so far and I'm quite happy with it. Of course sometimes they would have been right to be more harsh... in my case at least :P

Real bad? Even if you don't like it I don't see how it could be real bad. Certainly seems very marginal either way (because half your HCP are in hearts), I would do it against many opps.

Definitely start with X, I think overcalling 4H with such a terrible suit and 6322 (capable of playing NT or a minor eaisly) and not that great of a hand anyways. What's wrong with X then 3H? If LHO bids 3S continue with 4H. If LHO bids 4S not much choice but to double. I guess if I had a wire that LHO would bid 4S I would bid 4H then X :lol:

OK, I guess when it was still explained to Cascade and he STILL did not understand he is just not very smart. Fair enough. I had always assumed his literal take on everything without thinking of context was on purpose rather than stupidity. My bad. Gnasher: You say it was obvious in the context, but that I should say I didn't explain myself very clearly. That doesn't make sense to me, but whatever. I will assume all readers have read a thread and don't just read my post individually and take it out of the context of the thread.

If you bid 2♣ with Balanced or clubs then you are not playing "natural". Do you really have to have everything so clearly spelled out for you in literal terms that you cannot tell that "I agree playing relay [RESPONSES to 2C] is better but even if playing natural [RESPONSES to 2C]..." is what was meant here?

I didn't reply to this because I went back and fourth. My only real comment is that xxxx is significantly worse for bidding 1N than xxx. With xxx I would routinely bid 1N. Even with xxxx I lean towards 1N, but the aces and prime nature of the hand really seems to argue for a suit contract. So I lean towards 2S, but then I think about how bad this is if partner does have Hxx of hearts... Overall I think it's 1N but I would not care which one my partner chose.

If playing natural, should 3♣ show 4 or 5? Also how about opener's splinters? 4 and 4. If partner has 2 clubs he will always have 3 card support for your major, if partner has 4 clubs he will always have 3 card support unless he is 2443 in which case he can usually just bid 3N or 4N next.

Agree that relays is better but even if just bidding natural I find 2C with bal or clubs to be fine/good/much better than bidding 2D on bal hands with 4.
