  1. I don't know how to use search function but we've had this thread before also.
  2. I've spent ages trying to think of something clever, and have mostly only come up with something stupid, except possibly this: Ruff, cash the top spades. If trumps are 2-2, concede a diamond; if they're 3-1 either way, cross to ♣A and take a diamond finesse. If we assume that RHO has a singleton somewhere, that gains against: 2443 - 2515 1444 - 3514 with ♦Q on the left Fluffy's line gains against: 3433 - 1525 with ♦Q on the right 3424 - 1534 with ♦Q on the right 1444 - 3514 with ♦Q on the right Neither line works against 3415 - 1543. Does that sound right? And which line is better? Yeah that line looks quite reasonable, seems like the Fluffy line is still better. If we are going to try to guess which shapes are more liekly, I think 3514 with Qxx spades is less likely than 1534 with Qxx of diamonds since the former has better defense. Sometimes LHO won't bid 3H with 3433, but at white/red I think they almost always would. With 1444 they might sometimes bid 4H at w/r (depends on opp, I think I do this more than most people?) So my inferences would indicate the lines fluffy wins on are more likely on average, plus there are more of them (though obviously the stiff Q of diamonds combo is heavily discounted).
  3. Seems like you are grossly overestimating how good game is on these cards
  4. Partner seems like a strong favorite to be 3442. Pass.
  5. 1) Pass. If you want to bid 6C now why didn't you do it last time? All that has happened since then is partner expressing the view that you can beat 5D. It seems silly to pull a double, but defend undoubled (implying that you are willing to defend if partner does not think you can beat 5D, but unwilling to defend if partner does think you can beat 5D). I would have bid 6C the round before. 2) Yes I open. I bid 3D over 2S.
  6. lol 1D???????????????? Sorry had to get that out... anyways I'd bid 2H now.
  7. This line seems clear, maybe I'm missing something clever. Where did my 5S bid come from lol

Meh, there's a reasonable chance partner doesn't even have 4 hearts on this auction, there's a reasonable chance LHO has a stiff spade and they can get a ruff, there is a big likelihood that they have more HCP than us, I dunno I think driving past the 2 level is a big view that obviously could work out. Anyways it's certainly possible that it was percentage to pass 2H, but then once they competed we can use that to help us get to game (or to defend 3D X if that is right). It seems like east did something reasonable the first time, then something good the second time, and west completely dropped the ball for no reason.
  9. Don't pass if you might reasonably have a game still. Here game is definitely in play opposite not much.

I think east bid his hand perfectly, and west had an obvious 4H bid over the second double. WD kfay.
  11. I thought these were wtp: 1) X 2) 2C The only way I would not bid 2C on hand 2 is if I had the agreement that 2S showed a 4+ trump limit raise. This hand is way too good for a mixed raise or a preemptive raise!
  12. Just bid 1N-3N. You are always going to play 3N.
  13. Norths bidding is way crazier to me than souths, 75/25 north.
  14. 3H is either: A ) A GF spade raise based on power (18-19 bal, or a little less with 5422, or a hand with shortness that doesn't want to splinter) B ) 18-19 balanced with no heart stopper and less than 3 spades (no supp X) C ) A GF club one suiter (likely in need of a heart stopper) If 3H can include B and C hand types it is not playable for invitational spade hands to be included since partner has to bid 3N with minimum hands with a stopper, so 3H is effectively a GF. If you have some other way to include B and C you can also include invitational spade hands. IMO it's better to just stretch to GF which is fine because partner has shown 5+ spades, and because partner has free bid (doesn't show much, but rules out total 0-2 HCP psyches). So I would splinter with many 16 counts that I would otherwise have just bid 3S with. This makes slam bidding a little harder when I have a true splinter. You must be wondering, "what does a 3S bid show in this auction then?" IMO it is extremely important to bid 3S any time you have 4 spades and a stiff, even if you have 11 points. This is because if you bid 2S and they bid 4H and it goes p p you always want to bid 4S lol. The reason is you have not shown the offensive potential of your hand. Not only can you make some very light games (and many double game swings), you might have good saves available as well, but you don't want to do something unilateral so you have to tell partner what's up. Similarly I would bid 4S on just about any 6-4 in this auction. It is both preemptive and helps partner judge at the 5 level. These competitive considerations make it worth it for me to give up on some slam bidding accuracy and for me to force to game a little lighter than I would usually do so. Anyways if you agree with what I wrote you have a perfect 3S bid over 2H, and then you can be done with the auction (obviously your partner would bid game).
  15. 5N on the first hand should be a 3 card disparity. 6C would be a 4 card disparity. With a 2 card disparity you bid 6D because partner will always have 2 more diamonds than clubs to have bid 5D. As such I disagree with a previous comment that when partner bids 6C over 5N it will be better than 6D. I expect to sometimes be in a shorter trump suit.
  16. Play for the drop, you need very significant empty space info to do something different. A teammate of mine had a situation like this but knew RHO was 7 and LHO was 1 in a suit. He took the hook which seemed right, especially since there was 1 other minor inference. Anyways, 6-2 is not nearly enough.
  17. I would bid 6H because: A ) I expect partner to be 7-3-3 with a spade void very often and B ) I expect them to save very often so I'd rather double 6S than 5S. A is suspect, partner could be 7-4-1-1 and we're off 2 aces, but I can fall back on B (or partner having HK DA and we run good). 7-4-2-0 is fine, I like a spade void or a diamond void, club void is obviously bad (still can fall back on HK DA and run good, or they might try a non spade lead assuming WE are void). I don't think 6-4-3-0 can bid 6H, but if he did we should be making it (though may have a slow club loser if partner has --- KQxxxx KTxx Jxx, I do not think this is a 5H bid). With 6-5 he would bid his second suit.
  18. F my life, I almost put bulgaria in the semis and almost put germany in the quarters :o GG maggieb
  19. Super automatic 2S bid. Partner will bid over 2S way more often than he will over 2D, especially with 5 spades.
