Stupid 3♦ bid, you can't evaluate your hand towards 3NT until your partner supports- if it was solid 6 diamonds and the ace king of spades then a better case for 3D. GIB bidding system is idiotic with 3♠ bid as natural four card suit when he has bypassed the natural bids 1♠ and 2♠. 3♠ should be an exploration toward 3NT or 5♦ or perhaps continue onto 4♥ nothing else.

I always wondered what the worst four hands in terms of the maximum of the maximum number of tricks in all contract types for all hands- ie. I'm glad I never opened? Even worst on most likely play? Also what's the worst four hands if its the total number of tricks makeable by the four hands in all five possible contract types that's your concern?

Double- if partner bids hearts then you bid spades, if partner bids spades then you raise, if NT then 3D, 2D then 3D. Not likely to reach game unless partner cues clubs. 3rd seat could be pretty weak but still worth a chance, 4th seat has to be a good opening- perhaps even up to a bad 16HCP.

If playing extremely basic precision- 1NT then 2NT by opener can be passed but every other sequence is forcing to 3NT or the four level. Lots of options for precision like any other system.

♣ Assuming the bidding is half-normal how about ♣xxxx ♦AK10x ♥KJ10 ♠10xx Too good to sign off in 3♣ and not good enough to open. Partner is unlikely to cue diamonds for cover.

If its doubleton then there's no defence so why not return a club.

Singleton H is least as good as Hx or HH which would fit with the bidding if West GIB's hand was 5/5 Hearts and Clubs with predominantly aces and kings- favours suit contract over NT.

Even West had a 4S bid as 3D is the normal pathetic response.

3♥ is I think the opener psyched- I have the hearts.

It doesn't which hand has the last heart- it must be taken out when you still have ruffing strength and cashable cards.

Should be in GIB forum- its not a free bid to bid with 17 HCP, that's a forcing natural bid. 4D should be artificial strong force- who wants to compete minor over minor.

except its moderately bad opening not even 12 HCP.

Why not just 2NT, much better played by West although still has nearly no chance.

What if they both counted their cards correctly at the start but one dropped a card (not being aware of it) on the other's hand and the other picked it up in his hand? Say during the tension of the opening lead.

Opener has a trashy hand with 5 hearts and 5 good diamonds, no reason your partner doesn't have at least 5 good hearts.
