Its just the stupid response- EW make 3NT and its not unreasonable for West to bid 3NT.

GIB rebid 3NT as final contract without any stopper in unbid majors
cloa513 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Humans make that mistake all the time- concern with stoppers in the original suit when it means there gaping hole somewhere else. -
from new york observer

I have read it. Its rather long about many things including the dodgy Jimmy Cayne( jec). -
What about people who leave because another player is unresponsive.
-
Even though Lycier pysched a little bit- its still a one suited hand, GIBs shouldn't have had problem at all any placing the hand in 3NT. Its just the bid-on beyond sense part of its bidding programming that is the problem- prefer a minor to Non-trumps should rarely be a choice when you have good alround suit coverage especially in the competing suit (spades).

GIB tell same story twice with same values
cloa513 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
East GIB does have his 3♥ bid- 10 total points and 6 hearts- 9HCP plus 2 distributional points. West GIB should just pass- it doesn't have rebiddable spades and no good support for hearts. Whether you think the bidding structure is sensible- well that's unrelated. 2♥ should probably be 10-13 total points with less than 13 HCP. -
Its a useless description. North has great slam potential more than South has reason to expect. Soloway is stupid- GIB doesn't know what to do with Soloway bids so its waste of bidding space.
-
The club switch is even more bizarre after South bid clubs in the auction. Even the auction was not a lie, there is no reason not to continue with hearts- South with 2 hearts is probably dead meat.
-
GIB could have had 6HCP, 3 distribution points and no ace- its been known to do blackwood without a keycard in its hand.
-
I had one GIB overcall 3C over my 2C opening with something like ♣Q10xxxx ♦Qxx ♥x ♠xx, my partner GIB bid 3♦, and his GIB partner raised to 4C and which point I, holding 28HCP including ♣AK, just jumped to 7NT - it romped in once I guessed to cash the ace of diamonds in hand. The vulnerability was red just like this hand so its hard understand is this the same GIBs (mine was in video bridge so I believe basic GIB).
-
No, East (and North) bid moronically, its a simple pass of 2S doubled- West double has to be slightly penalty orientated since North passed once.
-
Considerable overbid with just the 2♠ rebid- ridiculous hand evaluation- shouldn't be required to have 4 spades for that bid so that it can bid simple 3C instead.
-
Yes 2nd Seat- Dealing input wasn't working.

-
I know its a real nuisance- what is point of bidding 4S if its going to be so ultra-conservative about its hand- it seems to be doing a simple High Card Points add up- Total Points and 8421 points are totally wasted as useful measures- it has much more than 16 total points. This is really bad bug.
-
He can't open 1C- for GIB bidding there is a strong chance of being passed there when 3NT or even 5C is easy. 2NT opening is about right for the hand- however no scientific way to get to slam playing with a GIB as GIB does not do cue-bidding right especially with a minor.
-
No way to make penalty double for opp's overbid.
cloa513 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
The second double says biddable spades- its not a penalty double double than nothing is. -
A range of 14HCP hands would be good for slam- you just have bid it without great bidding science- low to intermediate human bridge players would be confused too- we have everything- experienced partner did you lie or make a mistake and we shouldn't be in slam.
-
You do realise 6♣ is down with any passive lead. With GIB defence, its probably a made contract where it leads a diamond (assuming South plays 6C) or leads a low heart and ducks it to your eight of hearts. Your hand is too strong to open 1NT- its more like 1C, 2NT(round up quality with GIB) . Logically North should splinter.
-
And mediocre declarer play- of course with excellent defence its dead no matter what- the spade return is the killer but it needn't be that badly distributed.
-
why GIB keep silence with decent hand of game force??
cloa513 replied to lycier's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
No bid to consider using. -
Sometimes GIB is fool for bidding opening responses strictly following 6HCP for such a response bid (of course not always so that it pass out 2NT rebid) - I so many times have to open with 2C on such powerful types of hands.

BBO have said they will do nothing about GIB's play- reports to the forum are just for fun. I don't think they ever did anything after buying/licensing it from Ginsberg except for the release of advanced GIB (daily) which just allows more thinking time.

You aren't to know that EW have perfectly awful shaped hands. Your partners shouldn't have been so aggressive- its only worth a raise at most to 4♦ which should be passed by partner.
