leaping michaels poll
mohitz replied to Fluffy's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
True but in that case we don't have an option. We have to act because it's very likely the auction might die in 2H. Here we do! -
There was a time when i used to bid 3S here. But pretty sure now I would raise diamonds.
-
I disagree. I don't even remember the last time I had a 5-5 hand in the unbid suits when the auction went this way.

I voted clubs and spades because I thought it was standard to play the same defense over (2D) - p - (2H) as over (2H). IMO, The problem is that if indeed somehow LHO's suit is your major, you might be better off defending(doubled or undoubled) -
If you are using the Windows client, you can enable Lobby chat. There are a lot of people asking names for teams in the lobby chat. Contact any of them and tell them you would like to play. You will find a game. If you are using the Web Client, I think there is not much you can do(as of now)..

I vaguely remember Fred once posted that opening 1C on big 1444 hands is a good idea because partner might keep the bidding alive when he has diamonds by bidding 1D with sub minimum values but would be less likely to respond if we open 1D and he had clubs.
-
Something is weird. I think partner meant 1NT as minors!
-
Assuming one less spade, duck first heart. Win continuation. Remove trumps. Play Ace King of clubs. If Queen falls, claim. If not, ruff a heart, play all trumps. WIll have to guess whether to finesse diamonds or play for minor suits with RHO. Since fred posted this, I am sure this isn't the answer.

This is a very good hand from 'Bridge with the blue team'. Answer hidden.

Let's say you hold a huge 1444 hand. What do you open and what's the plan? Does it depend on the strength? Consider the following classification. What's your plan on each of them? 1) 16-17 count: Example: ♠x ♥AJxx ♦AKxx ♣KQxx 2) 18-19 count. Example: ♠x ♥AQJx ♦AKxx ♣KJTx 3) 20-21 count. Example: ♠x ♥AQJx ♦AKJx ♣KQJx 4) 22-23 count. Example: ♠x ♥AQJx ♦AKxx ♣AKQx

Is there any chance they are going to be available in the web-client? -

Whoa.. I think it must be closer to 0.002%.. -
I guess the real question on the second one is what one does if the bidding comes back at 4♠?
-
Also, works if spade is 4-2 and QJ falls. Yes, but then wouldn't you be down already?
-
What is the WBF policy regarding Moscito? Is it allowed in WBF events? Sorry if this a silly question!
-
2♣ or 1♠? ♠AKJTxxx ♥AKQTx ♦x ♣- EDIT: IMPs if it matters.
-
Sorry, X shows the range that would have been shown if they had opened my suit. So, 1H - X = 16-17 hcps. This was quite some time back. So, i don't remember the details. They had a lot of games their way. So, the system didn't cost them much. At the table, I was clueless about what defense to play. We just agreed natural and takeout doubles of 1C and 1D as value showing. And for higher bids, X = majors, NT = minors and rest natural.
-
3NT looks clear. At the risk of hijacking the thread, what methods do people play over a 3NT overcall?
-
OK, so you sit down to play in a ten board team match. Your opponents arrive shortly as you say hello. They hand you a piece of paper with their agreements listed. You see 1C = 12-13 hcp, any shape 1D = 14-15 hcp, any shape 1H = 16-17 hcp, any shape 1S = 18-19 hcp, any shape 1N = 20-21 hcp, any shape 2C = 22-23 hcp, any shape 2D = 24-25 hcp, any shape and so on. Responses by responder are also point showing. The first step shows something like 0-5 hcp, the next step shows 6-8 hcp and so on. You turn the page to look at their defensive agreements. If let's say we open 1H, their bids have the same meaning as when they would have opened. So, they will pass with anything less than 18 hcps. With 18-19 hcps, they bid 1S. You stare at them in the hope that they will start laughing and admit they were kidding. They are NOT. You have a few minutes to come up with a defense. How would you defend?

You are vulnerable against not and pick up this uninteresting hand. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=s8xxh9xxdtxxxckxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Partner opens a precision 1D, promising a minimum of 2 diamonds and a range of 11-15. (24)25 shape is also possible. Any balanced hand in the range (11)12-15 also opens 1D. RHO passes and you pass as well. LHO Xes and this is passed around to you. Your call? 1♦! - (p) - p - (X) p - (p) - ?
-
I must say that I am surprised by the responses suggesting a negative double. Is it normal to negative X with most hands that have 3 card support and 4 in the other major or is it because our spades are bad and hearts good? I always thought one had to support with support on this auction. They might bump up the bidding and that will leave us in an uncomfortable position later.

lol.. perhaps the ACBL convention regulation issues are more important than global warming issues!

haha.. you should totally ask for a refund!
