  1. Related question: If you play transfers over 1M - (X) What is the strength of 2M-1?
  2. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sxhxxxxxdaxxckxxx&s=sakq9haktxxdxcaxx]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] No, i did NOT construct this hand! Hand from the club today. Looking for a reasonable sequence to 7H playing standard(ish) methods.
  3. i really like the new smileys. Thanks ;)
  4. How do you bid game forcing hands with 6m and 4M over 1NT? What about 6m and 4om? Transfer into minor and new suit = shortness for us. Is this the best treatment?
  5. ♠x ♥Q98x ♦KQJTx ♣ KJx (1♦) - p - (1♠) - p (2♠) - ? On a scale of 0 to ten, how do you rate a X here? 0 = Xing = LOL 10 = Not Xing would be LOL EDIT: nobody vul, IMPs
  6. IMO, Re open on second one is pretty clear. On the first not so sure but I will probably re-open.
  7. Yes, that's right. Ducking diamond is the key. LHO did have doubleton trump and Ace of diamond. I found this play very interesting.
  8. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sj8xhakq8xxdxxxcx&s=sktxxxh9daqxcaqxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Lead: Ten of heart Contract: 4♠ uncontested
  9. I will bid 3♦. We have a very nice hand in the context of the bidding. ATxx opposite shortness. Kx in partner's second suit means we can almost always set up the heart suit with at most 1 ruff. xxx in clubs is not exactly good for us but I am bidding this one.
  10. [hv=d=n&v=e&n=saxxxxhaxxdxxcaxx&s=sxhkqxxxdkxxcqjtx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The auction was uncontested and ended in you playing in 4♥. The lead is a small heart. What's your plan?
  11. Pass is not forcing but if East was a passed hand i think most people will play pass as forcing. Will bid 5♥. Partner will most likely know to raise when slam is on.
  12. Pass at this vul. happy to take a plus score.
  13. I think we have plenty to bid something here. I like 4NT. If partner bids 5♣, correct to 5♦. X might win if partner has 2335(or 1336?). But 4NT gets us to our best fit in all other cases i think.
  14. yeah I think you are screwed into a pass if you were going to X you needed to do it the previous round with the intent of bidding ♦s the next First instinct was to X but now i think pass is better. It's not very likely we have a spade fit after the negative X and that takes away one of the biggest upside of a double. Sometimes we can defend :)
  15. 1♠ - (2♥) - p - (2NT) p - (3♣) - X Obviously, responder has hearts. But what about clubs? Is this takeout-ish or penalty-ish? Thanks in advance.

  17. Haha.. Susan Polgar has this to say "This is perhaps one of the biggest blunders in the final game of a world championship match. I am still stunned that Topalov did not sense any danger whatsoever by opening up the h1 - a8 diagonal."
  18. Interesting. I thought the more concentrated values we have in majors, the better it is to bid on since, they might be useful in offense but not in defense. I think a simulation might be helpful here. Btw, are there any guides and/or code to assist in doing a simulation. I might try.
  19. Why is doubling in the balancing seat less obvious then doubling in direct? Now, we know we probably make something. X in direct seat risks giving away distribution/strength when its their hand but perhaps that is good cause he would finesse in hearts the other way. Just curious.
  20. I look at it the other way - K9xx in spades is better than Q9xx in spades.
  21. I am trying to find if i agree with ANY part of your post. Sorry can't find any! 2H in the passout seat shows an intermediate hand for most. The 4th seat opener is not fine. It is certainly not right to open any hand in the 4th seat. Do you have any reasoning or data to back this? (I have at least this hand to cite) Why wouldn't Drury invite them into the auction?
  22. North could X at first opportunity. Definitely in the passout seat. What was he thinking? South might have opened 1S but i wouldn't bid 2S over 2H once i decide not to open. I blame North.
  23. Definitely X with the second one. With the first one, also perhaps
