I guess this depends on agreements. In my agreements, 2♦ delivered a 5 card suit. I bid 3♦ showing extras and at least 3 card support. If i had one more diamond instead of club, I would have bid 3♥.
KnR evaluator rates this as 13.7. This hand is pure, has 2.5 quick tricks, has 3 tens and 6 cards in the majors. I can't imagine passing this hand in any seat.
Why does it have to be opponents who have a part score? With ATx and 8xx in majors, i think the odds are excellent that we are the ones who have a part score. On the actual deal, we can take ten tricks in clubs. Opponents can take 8 tricks in diamonds.
Because we promised only a 5 count AND because our hand could be much worse even with the same values. I agree bidding 6 or not is a guess for responder.
[hv=d=n&v=n&n=skqxxxhqdxxcat9xx&s=sajxxhkxdakxckqxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 2♠ - 4♠ First time partner. 2NT would have been Ogust ask. New suit forcing one round.
Last time I checked you needed 11 tricks to score up a minor suit game  This of course assumes you have to bypass 3NT because you probably won't take 9 tricks in time. So by your logic you need 11 tricks to open 1♣? :) good agreement IMO. A plus score is always nice!
