  1. Keycard ask. If partner shows 2 keycards, i will blast 7. If partner shows 1 keycard, I will sign-off in 6. It is possible that partner might have the Ace Spade and we are cold for 7 without the King of trumps, but the odds are so low and I can't think of a convincing way to clear this ambiguity.
  2. Since, it is generally agreed that the main problem is not in finding the ideal rating system but in the concept of rating players itself. Why not come up with pros and cons of having a rating system just to streamline the discussion? I will give it a try. Advantages of a rating system: 1) If the rating system is accurate enough, players can find partners/opponents/teammates of same skill level and hence have a better experience of playing on BBO 2) Having a rating system will encourage players to put more effort in the game and improve(perhaps) Disadvantages of a rating system: 1) Lots of people would be reluctant to have their ratings displayed. 2) Whatever rating methodology you use, i think it will always be possible for people to find holes in the system and abuse the ratings.
  3. Hi, I have observed that it is popular to promise 2 of top 3 honors when people cuebid in their own primary suit. What is your preference on control bidding in your second suit? For example, 1♠ - 2♥ 3♣ - 3♠ 4♣ 4♣ is non serious slam try, showing a control in clubs. Is it preferred to use this to show the A/K or to show 2 of top 3 honors? Is one approach clearly better? Sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere. I think gwnn is already searching the archives :) Thanks in advance, Mohit
  4. 3D if playing precision. Playing 2/1, 2D - 2S - 5D - 5S all pass
  5. 1. 4S 2. Pass. Very close to double. 3. Pass, wtp? 4. I have a feeling they will make this. But what can i do once i opened that? 5. Tricky one. I kinda like jlall's 1N but not entirely convinced. 2C for me.
  6. Anyone wanna guess how many % of forum members' first post is about the rating system?
  7. Not going to bid game without the Queen.
  8. LOL. We should probably have a pinned topic about this
  9. I think this is a clear dbl. Obviously, you are happy if partner responds in a major. If he responds 3D, i will try 3NT. EDIT: Not so sure what i would do if partner surprises me with 4♣ or 4M.

    Happy birthday
  11. . Hardly a surprise! If the whole of Pakistan was polled, I would guess these numbers would be even higher.
  12. Hi, my name is Mohit. I am 23 right now and have been playing for 1 and a half years. I live in India. Love defending more than declaring. Conservative bidder. Favorite system - Precision. Favorite bridge player - Zia. Favorite partnership - Meckwell Bridge Ambition - becoming a world champion :) Other activities include playing ping-pong, daydreaming, partying with friends, engaging in philosophical debates etc etc :) I LOVE this game. Have got loads to learn though, hope this forum helps me. I suck at bridge. So, if i ask you stupid questions, please don't mind! :)
  13. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=shxdakqjtxxxxckxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]
  14. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=saxxxhakxxxdakxxc&s=skxhqtxxdqjxxxcax]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] How do you bid the grand? in 2/1? in a system of your choice? Thanks, Mohit
  15. I will assign the blame to West. He has a simple 3NT bid. In my opinion, East's acceptance isn't that bad with that club suit. On the bidding West didn't try to find a major suit. It looks like he has diamond length. Two minor suits running would make 6NT easy.
  16. Who's your favorite to win the cup? I would be supporting India of course, but i think Sri lanka, New Zealand and South Africa make for strong contenders..
  17. Agree with P_Marlowe.. clear 4H for me
  18. Playing matchpoints in a club game, you pick up [hv=d=n&s=sajxxhtxxxdajxxcx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] What do you bid after your partner deals and opens a weak 2S and RHO passes. If vulnerability impacts your decision, please mention.
  19. Hi, I am looking to improve my declarer play, specifically at suit contracts. I am an advancing player. Can you recommend some good books?
  20. I think we can do with just 2 rounds of spade ending in dummy.
