5♥, this is too likely to make (and if not, they are too likely to make). Also if partner is inexperienced, he might have read my 4♥ bid as showing values or something, so this seems like a good safety play.
agree with gnome, han, 655321, disagree strongly with jdonn while respecting his opinion, sceptic and mike77777 and rexford hhave no idea what they are talking about woot collegiates
In all my partnerships that play 4-suit transfers, this is a slam try with shortness in the major. I don't see how this is extremely different from that method. I think this is standard.
I double (for takeout) and do not think there is a serious alternative. Double here should definitely not be penalty. 2NT here is good old fashioned 18-19 balanced. West should definitely raise hearts.
Thanks, we had a nightmare 3rd set at both tables. Playing 64 boards a day is very tough for me, and we were kind of awful. Fortunately for us, it is difficult to blow a 69 IMP lead in 16 boards. Beijing!
I was very unhappy with the way I was playing in the beginning of the semi-finals. I had woken up fairly early in the day and concentrated way too hard in the RR. By the time the semi-finals came, I was completely exhausted. It is a good thing all of my lapses in concentration (like having no idea what Dwyer was discarding) cost only a handful of IMPs, and I wasn't given too many problems at the table.
In a "normal pickup partnership that plays inverted minors", what should this hand respond? 1NT. My comment about "not being bridge" was not directed at this call but what later happened.
Okay I just wanted to see what people would do. I was torn between 6♦ and 5♥/5NT. What actually happened at the table wasn't bridge, so I guess it's not really relevant. Partner had ♠Jxx ♥Jxx ♦Kxxxx ♣Kx and 7♦ rolls home easy. I don't think this is a 3♦ call, but whatever. (On top of this, partner failed to bid 5♣; he signed off in 5♦. This turned out to be sort of a winning action when LHO sacrificed in 5♥ and misplayed it a trick for 1400. lol)
If you raise on 3154 minimums, 2♠ here promises 2. If you bid 2♣ on 3154 minimums, then 2♠ here promises a 3154 minimum, and 3♠ promises promises a 3154 max. I think.
It shows 3154, extras. I can't cuebid anything, and am not thrilled about KJ9x opp stiff unless it's the A or Q. I think I have to move, though, so I would go with 5♠. I think this is close.
IMPs, White vs Red, First Seat ♠AQx ♥void ♦AJTxx ♣AQT9x 1♦ - (P) - 3♦ - (Dbl) 4♥ - (P) - 5♣ - (P) ? 3♦ was "preemptive" by the standards of a normal pickup partnership that plays inverted minors. Agree with 4♥? Now what?
I wasn't having a field day until I read this. You post this ridiculous decision you made, and then have a bunch of experienced players tell you it was wrong, and you think you are right? "What 13-count does 6♦ not have a chance in?" LOL. sceptic you are hopeless. I am tired of these pointless posts you make all the time. (tilt is gone now)
Partner doesn't promise good spades, but 10+ of his 13 cards are in the majors, and his strength isn't in hearts. Also if partner doesn't have good spades, 3NT is fairly likely to go down anyway.
1) Why do you play Kokish if you are not going to use it for its intended purpose? 2) You obviously think you are right. I agree with you, but I also think this is so clear that I am not sure what you are looking for. The TD is telling you it is improper because it is harder for him to tell what is going on if the explanations aren't documented (reasonable). Obviously even he agrees with you, because no adjustment was made.
Partner passed the double, basically denying both spade support and an awesome hand. He then proceeded to show spade support along with an awesome hand. Impossible.
I would open 2♠, but my preferred style is to preempt very soundly in second seat at any colors (though this suit is pretty awful, the hand is ok). In a normal preempting style, I would consider this hand to be too strong for these colors.
