  1. THIS sounds like a good suggestion to me - (BUT I realise might be a HUGE problem for programmers ) ;) But maybe worth doing because IF "psych" button NOT pushed TD might have a better idea if pard of psych bidder has fielded the psych ---- NAD maybe make it easier for TDs to "have a record" of those who psych either 1 by reporting it 2 by NOT reporting it I agree that last sounds as tho I'm having a bet "each way" :P but from what I've read on this forum regarding psych bidding it MIGHT be good to look at those who alert psych bids to TDs ( maybe reported to central complimating of such alerts?) and TDs reporting psychs NOT reported when the get AGGREVIEVED opps calling them for adjust ?
  2. guess that proved the old saying"one man's meat is another man's poison" :)
  3. I am REALLY missing something here  WHY is 3S stronger than 4S??
  4. OK GMT is currently ONE hour behing London time To the BEST of my Knowledge there is a 4 hour time diff between EDT (ie current NY time) and GMT ( which is one hour BEHIND current London ( summer time) Really not sure if that helps
  5. If you mean EDT USA Eastern Daylight Time (rather than EDP) then EDT is 14 hours behind EST here in Australia (and once OZ goes to daylight Savings time in Eastern States and USA goes OFF their Daylight savings ) then the difference between Melb/Sydney time and EST (ie New York time ) will be 16 hours
  6. responder only has THREE spades doesn't he? so why the comment "partner doesn't know we (meaning resopnder?) has 4 spades??
  7. IF you are saying that the times are PM EST I will try to come --
  8. because the responder HAS club suit IMHO is does NOT have to be alerted  BUT is also not a "normal" SAYC response -- and I guess the rest of the auction would have been instructive ( for example should opener have gone looking for game if he expected P to have 11+ (or thereabouts) for his bid I don't think that folks should be penalised for making what THEY thought was an OK bid
  9. IMHO you bid was good - just unlucky that pard did not have a club big enough to prevent them running 5 clubs :( Please remember that a less than optimal score is not necessarily the result of "bad" bidding ----- in MOST cases your 3NT would be an OK score :D and--- unless you are willing to bid FOUR Diamonds on your hand ( therefore going past 3NT which might be the BEST contract as your ♦'s are not that strong  ) partner will bid 5♦ on the actual hand  (wow a LOT of what ifs there) please ---- remember hindsight is ALWAYS 20/20 :D
  10. 3♠ as I presume the 1NT showed 6-9(or thereabouts) and I can only show preference at this stage for ♠
  11. when logged in and clicking on "Tournaments" button I PERSONALLY would like to see "PAY " and "non PAY " tournaments separated --- because - there is NO WAY in the WORLD I will PAY to play a tournament in cyberspace EVER!!! (just because there is TOO many ways for thaos who want to cheat CAN :P (BTW I don't care if those who want to cheat {in online play} beat me - ALL they are doing is basically cheating themselves ) BUT I am NOT willilg to PAY (even 20 cents) to play them :D
  12. Even assuming there was a rule that preempts require 7 cards (and such a rule would be illegal in general, imho), why in the world give Jimmy and Average minus for his opponents illegal bid? Why not respond to your paying customer (yes this was from a fee-to-play event, but not ACBL)? The director did several things here that seem to be total indefensible. Ben If this was from a FEE to play event - MAYBE BBO needs to exercise more control over WHO is allowed to use BBO to promote their fee site :) because even to my totally inexperienced eyed the decision seems totally bizzare :D
  13. I see what you are trying to say Mike But I believe MOST of the directors on BBO are folk who do a great job providing tourneys in a NON pay site -- and maybe all of us who play should not be SO horrible to them :) (We are not playing for the proverbial sheep station -- an Australianism meaning for a HUGE amount of money /kudos/or whatever means the most to you the player) --- maybe BBO needs to ask ALL players to respect directors here?? BUT maybe when directors (for example ACBL) tourneys they should not only be accredited ACBL directors - but ALSO have to PROVE that they are capable of dealing with an ONLINE format - which is SO different to a f2f tourney :D
  14. before I start let me say I dislike psyching ONLINE when LOTS of us are playing with pickup partners -- and MAYBE against established partnerships who can psych REALLY well within the rules of bridge -- I only wish I could do it as well :D :D Having said that in response to your all of the things quoted are OK OCCASIONALLY (and I mean occasionally )---- but if they become PART of you game (and partner acts as though he/she might expect you to have (for example a SIX card major OR a 7 card minor when opening 1NT) then it's NOT a psych but (IMHO) UI and SHOuLD be on your CC AND alerted to opps and if NOT therefore subject to SOME sort of sanctions - and no doubt the qualified directors will tell you what they are :)( if i'm right :D As far as I understand the rules IF you SOMETIMES ( as opposed to really occasionally) reply 1NT to 1♦ which on your CC denies a 4 C major then you need to ALERT the fact that the 1NT MAY contain a 4 card major - as opps are entitled to that information ( EVEN if you DO change your CC :D ) - please correct me directors if I am misunderstanding the alerting rules :P
  15. IMHO ------ although this is a REALLY great post it's a little advanced for the BIL string --- (see another post about answering questions in BIL forum) I believe for BIL folks u need to agree INITALLY on EITHER long OR short suit game tries
  16. LOL :) the TOP players will do well NO MATTER what system they play B) As for the rest of us I guess that with a regular partner - AGREE what system+conventions +carding you play and STICK to it  Here in Australia there are rules as to what TYPE of system you can play against opps system ( on a colour scale) so some of the top players have to modify their system if they play in less than "TOP" tourneys ---- BUT because they can count the hand -- remember ALL the cards -- and play them SO well they will ALWAYS do better than average (but MAYBE get a bad score on an occasional board because the "inexperienced" opps land in an "IMPOSSIBLE" contract making for a TOP)
  17. the WORST convention is the one you have agreed to play and ONE of you forgets and you get a BOTTOM score  Having said that MY worst ones are (in no particular order ) Gerber (Especially playing Acol) Lebensohl (only cos I have NEVER managed to work it out -- MY fault I agree) Blackwood (when initiated by a player who has NO idea what to bid after pard's response--- whatever that is)
  18. I reckon it depends on partnership agreement
  19. I can understand that even "intermediates" (like me) can be confused with SOME of the esoteric discussions which the ADVANCED players post in the "beginners and intermediates" forum MAYBE a SPECIFIC request from a BIL (beginner/intermediate) should be answered either by a PRIVATE message - or a referral to a NEW string titled (for example) "beginners guide to scrambling NT" or whatever SPECIFIC question was answered  I REALLY have no problem reading the quite fascinating forums between "expert" and "world class" players about conventions I have NEVER heard of (in fact I find them instructive and ALSO amusing) BUT I feel thet that type of discussion is inappropiate in a BIL forum :D
  20. I only have ONE question ( and I might say I have probably MISSED how to do this :P ) but does BBO tell EVERYONE what "GCC" is?? and EXACTLY what the rules and regulations of it are?? I played in USA for 5 years so know that LOTS of things allowed as "standard" in other countries are DISALLOWED in USA --- and the ACBL Tourneys are allowed to run their tourneys according to THEIR rules ( as is ANY other country allowed to run their tourneys according to the prevaling rules for their national rules) SO Is there a LINK on BBO to let everyone know (in maybe a ONE page summary) what the GCC is ?? :D But to sanction players who MIGHT not know the GCC rules  seems to be counterproductive?? UNLESS BBO says one HAS to have an ACBL number to register for an ACBL tourney
  21. I voted for 3♦ (strong hand♦ suit) but I am guessing that those who voted 2NT were using that bid for the minors?
  22. I guess THAT would have to be alerted??? :P
  23. OK first - playing ACOL -- 2H should NOT have to be alerted (IN f2f play) because 2H IS a H suit --- and opps should have been told WHAT your 2 bids were :P YOU cannot ASSUME that the 2NT (even if NOT alerted ) was strong -------- so IMHO ANYTHING that happened after that MIGHT have been a result of you assuming (without asking) what the 2NT meant :ph34r: It would have been more instructive ( to me at least :( ) if you had posted the hands for ALL players :) Having said that ----in f2f (as in 'local' clubs) the director is the one who KNOWS the rules :o so I really believe it's counterproductive to ask in this forum if the ruling was correct (ESPECIALLY without posting ALL the hands) HOWEVER I believe IF you are a "relative" beginner you MAYBE should not aspire to be a director before you can't answer your own question --- DIRECTORS in f2f bridge should be REALLY experienced players B) {BTW I have been playing bridge at a club for MORE than 35 years and I STILL don't think I can know the rules well enough to direct a game at local club}
  24. First Q I would have bid this at 2/1 1♠ 2♥(game force) 3♣( DON'T have 6 ♠s for rebid) 3♥ (like 6 ♥s) 4♥ PASS 2nd Q NO I don't think that slam should be considered -- ( but unfortunately LOTS of times folks BLAST to slam with insufficient values ( or without the means of finding out about contols etc) and find that because :P EVERYTHING is perfect  the slam rolls home :)
