just a 6-6 Major
bearmum replied to 1Valeria's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
4♠ :) -
PASS ----- you have a MAX point wise for your initial pass I agree BUT partner has not shown any MAD desire to press on towards slam ( unless I am missing something --I don't knw the responses to Drury - but assume that 3♣ shows a full opener -- and perhaps a club suit too? )
-
I agree that as DECLARER you need to play TOP of equal cards ( like J in the example shown) BUT IF you are defending and partner leads a suit in which ( for example you have QJTxx and dummy plays a low card -------- play the LOWEST from touching cards :)
-
I will answer this as if you had asked about DISCARD signals ( rather than enc/disc ones) --- guess you need to find a system which allows you to chose more than ONE suit for signals as it is NORMALLY easier to find an unambiguous card for your first discard <_<
-
wow - I would not have bid 2♥ first time round ( I really think one NEEDS the right point count for this bid) SO I would bid 1NT - and THEN does partner still jump to 3S with MAX 17 points?? But answering the question --- assuming the bidding I guess I will bid 4♠ and hopefully P will PASS :)

How you play with a expert
bearmum replied to spwdo's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
playing with "experts" here on BBO I find LOTS would be pushing to win a tournament at a social club ( ) so if I find folks I really dislike (and maybe it's more to do with their behaviour at the table rather than claiming "expert" when they are not) I make a note for myself on their profile. I have not been priveledged to play with a "star" or a "WC" player (and probably will never do so) but IF I ever did I would expect that partner would realise I'm only an Intermediate and be willing to play the system and conventions I am comfortable with, and HOPE that I would learn something from the experience IMHO a WORLD class players are those that win not because of esoteric sysyems and conventions BUT because they 1. LISTEN to the bidding 2. Count the cards 3. Watch EVERY card played and 4 know HOW to play certain card combinations ( sometimes against the "right" way having taken into account the first three points ) -
BBO Makable Slam #07
bearmum replied to inquiry's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
take K ♦ then 2 rounds of trumps ( KEEP the 2♥ in hand for entry to dummy later ) A♦ Q♦ discarding a ♠ A♣ K♣ ruff the last ♦ go back to dummy with a ♥ and finesse J♠ then if it loses--west then has to give you a ruff and discard or lead into your A ten of ♠ -
Interesting Ben W led the 3♦ 3/5 lead and then plays 3♦ on third round of D :P ALSO it's interesting that you said that W plays SMALL on 3rd round of D BUT plays the ten IF S leads 9 ♦ ---------- what happens if S leads 9♦ to third round of D? --- I might be barking up TOTALLY the wrong tree but you DID state FIRST that W plays the 3♦ [even thought he's led it ] on the third round :o :) the reason I'm asking for clarification is I'm TRYING to reconstruct POSSIBLE E/W hands in order to solve the problem - I'm almost sure to get the best result I have to try to set up SPADES for club discards in S hand and think the answer to my question will help me do just that :)
-
My point was NOT to make 2/1 better (and I guess I'm probably reading your post incorrectly -- if so apologies ;) ) RE the 15-18 versus 6-11 hands ------Replying to a Precision 16+ with a positive hand (8+) will NORMALLY allow you to get to game (OCCASIONALLY with two minimum flat hands 3NT not on ) and the collorolly(sp?) is it's relatively easy to stop short of game without those necessary point ranges  BUT to say I don't think PRECISION needs a 2/1 GF structure -------- I have played it at different times over the last 15+ years (Precision that is) with a forcing NT semi-forcing NT 1NT as 8-11 ALWAYS a change of suit forcing for 1 round , and to be quite honest my "senior" brain is reasonably happy with the way my husband an I play our version of Precision :P
-
HATE the "Precision" system with 2/1 GF (mainly because I thought all Precision openers except 1♣ and 2NT are limited to 15 points max  SO I would PASS ---- because IMHO we will get into trouble more often than not if I make a forcing bid with the cards I have :P

Nice problem seen somewhere else...
bearmum replied to cherdano's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
OK Now I have read ALL the replies I realise that it wasn't originally posted as a BI question ( which I thought it was and replied as such :P ) Surely IF the opps are good enough to DUCK the Q♥ then I still make 6 --having stripped the hand and attempted the throwin--(and if I were smart enough to read their discards I might even take the D hook the right way and make 7!! ;) I do agree 1IMP might make a difference in a team match BUT as the original question specified IMPS not teams then at IMPS one doesn't jeapordise the contract for an overtrick does one? But thatns for all the expert answers -- I found them really instructive -
Problem 1 - I would use Michaels Problem 2 I would bid diamonds

bearmum replied to cherdano's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Take 1st ♣ (unless clubs break 7/1  ) draw trumps play 2 rounds of ♣ then A ♥ Q♥ ---- whoever wins K♥ has to either give you a ruff and discard OR open the diamonds which should mean no diamond loser -

BBO ADVANCED SYSTEM

THAT doesn't work for me - when I clik BBS i get a BLANK screen and none of the buttons across bottom work  -
Odd/even What are they?
bearmum replied to Timbitt's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Interesting comment - I have TRIED a few times to master o/e discards and as you say LOTS of times u are STUCK :) My husband ( partner of MORE than 30 years) and I play 'revolving' discards and I find them easy to play (and MORE important in my "senior" moments easy to remember) BTW I can play Lav discards too :) BUT reverse suit pref Lav would REALLY tax my 'senior' memory :P -
Regardless of whether BBO does it, I guarantee anything you type on your computer can be read by your Internet Service Provider, short of certain encryption programs. I don't know that people at the ISP read your chat for entertainment, but then I don't know that they don't either. This, I cannot disagree with more. Especially when I am directing. I have NO problem with my ISP being able to read my private chat :) (they have TOO much traffic to be bothered reading MY insignificant postings on their VAST data base) BUT I really do have a problem if BBO (repeat BBO!!) felt it necessary to record PRIVATE chat for whatever reason :) Unfortunately I don't think there IS a way of preventing somebody playing with me of taking screenshots of 'private' chat but I can live with that ( as I very rarely 'private chat' anyway ) :P

probably upgrade to at least Win 98 and latest IE :P

Rise (??) in cheating recently
bearmum replied to bglover's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Playing penalty doubles of 1 level openings is a very unusual agreement. Was it alerted? Eric I must be missing something ( NOT unusual I must admit!)--- why did u assume the 1♥X was penalty? Obviously the doubler's partner did NOT think so as he/she bid FOUR♠ :) I am not sure WHAT the original doubler would have bid had the 4♠ had not been doubled -- BUT it was doubled :P SHOULD the board have been reported as suspicious of cheating -------- IMHO NO :) -
Why won't bridge be a full Olympic sport?
bearmum replied to Dwayne's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Personally I think the OLYMPICS should be banned ---------- ( A JOKE :) all!!) Seriously - I TRULY believe the ONLY Olympic sports should be those events which cam be timed ----- so FORGET 1. Team sports 2. Sports which rely on subjective marking from judges THEN Bridge WOULD qualify :) :D :P -
What is the correct thing to do?
bearmum replied to doofik's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I agree -occasionally i could play for 30 mins or so - but have NO way of knowing approx how much time remaining in T :) -
I just want to know WHY it's important to post HERE about something posted elsewhere ?? I guess I might have reported the site to Fred or Uday --- rather than post a comment made on what U regard as a HORRIBLE site here on BBO --- which by the way I couldn't find to check it out :) \

Another pointless discussion about censorhip

Sorry I disagree - WHOEVER owns the forum has TOTAL rights to delete strings which have no direct relationship to the forum's basic discussions - SO IF the moderators felt that a particular string was a personal attack on ONE person (or perhaps it had degenarated into personal attacks of any kind) I feel the string SHOULD be deleted ---- and ANYONE who dislikes it can NEVER visit forum again -
I like this suggestion newmoon - as I am SURE all of us have had nasty experiences playing with incompatitable pards in MBC :) I ALWAYS tell my partner (and OPPS) -- last one for me all TY P ty o :)
