play A♣ A♠(and assume both play to A♠) play K ♥ small ♥from hand to A then you can play H for enough discards (even if the Q♥ doesn't fall and if the A♥is trumped) because as soon as one opp trumps the Q♠ will fall HOPE that's right :D

are you talking about Standard American Yellow Card (the REAL SAYC) or what MOST folks CALL SAYC?? -- which SHOULD be called "Standard American"
-
Interesting you should say that Rado - at our f2f club we sometimes have to actually deal the cards to play if too many boards in duplicate with "computer" dealt hands- AND have found that there are REALLY WILD distributions when only a couple of reshuffles done
-
Guess it depends on what the opening lead was -- OR the opps didn't know how to refuse claim -- OR maybe the ststem alloed 14 tricke MINUS one to automatically be accepted
-
Because I thought it was the RIGHT bid with this hand..... This seven card suit headed by no top honour (AK or Q) looks like a six card suit to me when vulnerable. Why do you ask with so many QUESTION MARKS? You get a bunch of them for Christmas or find a great sale on them somewhere? One is usually enough! GEE I'm sorry you got offended with by question marks - all I was TRYING to do was to express incredulity ;) - sorry if I offended you -- but still think your answer was a real over-reaction

I played on another site for quite a while and DID keep SOME statistics ( as I was convinced that I was ALWAYS on the "wrong side" when it came to points - and GUESS what - over a six month period when I was playing an average of 300-400 hands a month the incidence of having an opening bid - AND partnership having at LEAST 21 points ( I KNOW -- a bit crude BUT I am not a computer whiz ;) ) came out really CLOSE to 50% for BOTH --- a SLIGHT bias to me when playing N/S --- but probably explained from the small sample of hands --- so hopefully BBO using the same sort of hand generater programme that other site used. BTW our LOCAL club uses a hand generator programme - which OFTEN seems to have one 36 board game with LOTS of wild distributions --- and others with TAME ones

online bridge different from live bridge?
bearmum replied to Rain's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
OK the FIRST thing I TRY to do with new P (assuming SAYC or 2/1 and assuming these are NOT specified on Pard's profile) 1 better minor or short club? 2 Transfers for minors as well as majors ?(and HOW to do 4 suit transfers) 3 Blackwood or RKCB 0314 OR 1430 ? (BTW is 4NT alertable ANYWHERE if RKCB?? :P OFTEN that's ALL we have time to agree - unless P has things I don't know HOW to bid (lebensohl Drury amoungst others I have seen on pard's profiles  ) OK I agree it would PROBABLY be better if online bridge were like f2f - so the PARTNER of the player alerts ( AND then ONLY OPPS would know what the player assumes from the bid --- unlike f2f where the BIDDER can be alerted to the fact that the bid IS alertable - even if he has forgotten) --- but IMHO self alerting online seems better to me ;) -
Thans for the explainations :D

Im a member of the Australian Bridge Fereration :D

I have noticed that doerctors want to now tablre number -- direction etc IF you call a director for an adjustment - :D OK I can understant WHY - BUT :D a HUGE BUT :D the directions are NOT shown when you sit at a table - WHY NOT ???
-
WHY open multi 2 with SEVEN spades?????????
-
OK my 2 cent's worth 1. In MOST tourneys I play with a pick up P and have NO time to fill in the BBO CC (Which takes AGES AND AGES  ) 2. If I can get agreements(assuming Standatd American) on Better minor or short club? transfers (minors too) NT range B/W or RKCB i consider myself lucky :P 3> In a tourney IF the opps refuse to reply to questions you ask CALL the directo and complain -- HOPEFULLY some directors MIGHT keep lists of those players who don't explain ( However some players have no English -- BUT should try to explain anyway) In just a pickup game if opps refuse to answer as to what bids mean - ask your pard to coma to a new table and add a comment on the offender's profile so you know in future to avoid that person :)

I agree -

How come MOST teenagers can spend HOURS and HOURS playing mindless (as in not much brainpower required  )computer games -- killing enemies etc --- and not be able to sit still long enough to TRY to learn to play a CHALLENGING game :P The LARGE majority of children -- youths (AND adults unfortunately ) in USA and and Australia ( as I know from living in BOTH places) are "couch potatoes" and don't want to be physically challenged SO I guess Bridge folk need to get others involved with the MANTAL challenge of Bridge - and hopefully sites like BBO will help - ALL you need is the desire to learn - an internet connection -- BBO installed --- AND HOPEFULLY  long time bridge players prepared to help NEWBIES to the game to start playing
-
of course I meant 3 ♣by opener was a strange bid and I would have bid 4♣ by resoponer
-
well first 3♣seems a funny thing to bid to establish a force  AND a PASS over a forcing bid should be forbidden  as responder has NO idea what partner has--- with the given hand I would bid 4♣ BUT with opener's hand I would bid 4♥(crossing my fingers all the while )
-
Responder is 100% responsible because RKCB should NOT be used if the answer you get won't tell you what you NEED to know to make a good decision on going to slam or not
-
THANKS Uday for new links :D They overwrite the old ones :D

Booting a player who not a good fit for the table
bearmum replied to inquiry's topic in General BBO Discussion
I agree you SHOULD be able to ask if it's OK to sit ;) BUT I have found that if you don't just HOP in you won't get a seat ----- there is barely enough time to glance at your prospective partner's profile  -
I find that I can't "review post" first then actually POST it - can sombody PLEASE help me ::

Worse Bid in this auction
bearmum replied to inquiry's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
1D 1H 2S 3S 3N 6D 6N Pass I was one of 42 kibitizers to watch this hand. This was the only pair to get to 6NT, one pair got to 6D. 6NT was down two. What was the single worse bid, and who deserves the blame for this disaster (lost 13 imps). PS. I am using this to test the many poll options.... which explains all the choices. Also, feel free to comment on the correct bidding. Ben I think E 's 2S horrible - has a PERFECT 2NT ---- and then using NMF they end in 3NT :D
