OK I'll assume you have asked BASIC questions to pard about what conventions to play ? So if 2D is weak -- 3D as further obstruction IF 2D is multi - I have NO idea as I don't play multi 2's B)(but assuming it COULD be a week 2M - reply 2H correctable by P to 2S :( and if it's a BIG hand partner can change suit to FORCE me to bid again :-

How to request a partner for tournment play
bearmum replied to inquiry's topic in General BBO Discussion
I agree QQ - BUT several times I have looked for a person (in the lobby) who is in the 'find a partner' list so that I can ask if they would play with me and find scrolling down and down and down ( as more folk arrive it seems to be IMPOSSIBLE to find the person I am looking for) >:(--- SO I ask via partnership desk -- and SOMETIMES get a reply that the person is UNABLE to play :- so maybe a "thanks but no thanks" button would be appropriate ?? Surely IF you put your name ON the list you should at least be available ?? B) -
Thanks Todd As I know NOTHING about programming a software application :- I was hoping the HOST would be the one who could allow or disallow kibitzers (and maybe even get kibitzers to ask for permission) -- and maybe ALL players have the ability to require permission or not -- that way when clicking on an empty seat at a table the person with whom you are trying to play can look at your profile and accept or reject :)
-
I really get CROSS when trying to sit at a table with somebody other than the table owner --- who hes "permission to sit" checked - and I have NO way of asking the person that I am trying to play with if he/she would like ME to sit >;) Is ther ANY way to make it possible for EACH person to add "permission to sit" rather that just the table owner??

I cannot find the discussion on asking to partner somebody already on list for a specific tourney - I believe one of the yellows suggested that IF "I" wanted to play I should send a private message to that person rather that "request registration" from the "find a partner" list from tourney list OK - MAYBE I am suffering a "senior" moment :) BUT earlier I TRIED and TRIED :- to find a particular person who was on the "find a partner" list in the list of ALL logged into BBO --- AND believe me that was ALMOST impossible !!! As I clicked through the HUNDREDS of online players TRYING to find "whoever it is" ( the player I was trying to send a private message to ask him/her to enter the tournament ) it was TOTALLY impossible as SO many folks were logging in/out that I couldn't find the person I was looking for :-[ SO Please - would it be possible looking at the list of folks looking for a partner for a tourney to RIGHT CLIK that name to sent a private message? to ask if he/she would like to play :-

How to request a partner for tournment play
bearmum replied to inquiry's topic in General BBO Discussion
What if BOTH the people you ask say "yes" :-[ -
Thanks for the tips Ben -- but my point is I have to be logged on to BBO in order to make changes to a CC --- and was hoping there was a way to do the CCs at a time when I am not trying to play bridge :) Mind you I am probably doing SOMETHING wrong :-[
-
I find trying to fill in a CC fairly timeconsuming --- would there be any way to be able to do it BEFORE logging on to BBO? --- that way at least I could fill them in for people I play with from time to time ( like yahoo and Swan friends) :)
-
I would like to see ALL player be required to post what systems/conventions they REALLY can play as they register on BBO :- or maybe before they can actually PLAY on BBO after they reg ?? ::) NOT sure what the system can regulate ???
-
On another string (can't remember where :-[) a suggestion was made it would be a good idea if one ASKS before sitting at a table DUH ??? Normally before I have had time to look at the profile sombody has hopped in ahead of me ::) The other gripe I have is IF the owner of the table says "permission required to play" I can't even ASK the person I am trying to partner if THEY would like to play with me >:( I Feel that maybe a SPECIFIC person at table ought to be able to check "permission to play with ME" button and have the decision to accept or reject a person trying to sit as partner :D Mind you I could be missing something in the software -- I DO find the 'help' not much help at all :)

Precision 1D opener
bearmum replied to DenisO's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I agree with you Denis I would open all the hands 1NT --- I have 2 Precision books (one by Eric Jannersten and a VERY old one by Belladonna and Garrozzo) and play a combination of the two 'basic' Precision. (Mind you Belladonna's basic Precision takes a lot of learning!) I believe CC Wei first introduced Precision (?) so maybe a book writen by him would be a good way to start ;D The only time we open 1D on a 13-15 flattish hand is with 2 four card majors 8) -
Thanks all I hadn't realised that I could fill in the explaination by clicking the BID myself :P
-
I always self alert when making a conventional call --- am I doing it correctly by clicking "alert" befor making the bid? B)

convention cards in Tourneys
bearmum replied to bearmum's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I totally agree ---- and have written to BBO several times (without success - or even acknowlegement ) on subject of what I consider inadequate software -- MAYBE the site does not support better software - I can't say BUT surely a link to ACBL CC site could be arranged ----- THERE you can fill out ACBL card with whatever u want ::o BBO CC's do NOT allow you to fill in EXACT point ranged for some bids B) :-[ -
OK my 2cents worth ;D "I don't believe in compteting "too hard" for part scores" - IMHO competing for part scores is MORE difficult than bidding the COLD game Small slam OR Grand slam :B) In COMPETITIVE auctions I think LOTT is good cos it TENDS to tell you at which LEVEL is "safe" to bid ---- BUT YOU have to eveluate the information according to 1>WHAT suit you and opps are bidding 2> relative vul of sides LOTS of times you get REALLY good scores if you evaluate these things correctly --- MAYBE more @ MPS than IMPS i agree B)
-
I have noticed when playing with a P that I have a CC with that OPPS never seem to look at it even thought I say something like "hi opps ....... system CC operative" Please tell me am I doing the right thing by telling them we have a CC posted??? B) AND should it be a condition of playing that ALL players at least putting what systems they CAN play??

LOVE playing tourneys on BBO ===== BUT wish that results from the baords were accessable AS we play them B)

Misho's Offer part 2...Precision
bearmum replied to Laird's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
wow where to start?? with 11-15 and 4414 4315 3415 0r 4405 OPEN 2D B) Pard bids 2NT for further information? -- responses are 3C = 3415 3D= 4315 3H = min 4414 3S= Max 4414 3NT = max with singleton A D 4C = min 4405 4D= max 4405 The great thing with Precision is that you can bid something like 1H 2minor 2S without showing more than 5H and 4S and less than 15 points ( u need 10+ points to bid the 2D B)) and as sombody else noted 1M followed by 3 minor would show 5/5 at least -- BUT STILL maximum of 15 points. My reg pard and I at local club ( where MOST play Acol ) are constantly doing OK cos opps say "we were only trying to push you up one level " and we PASS ;D -
Misho's Offer part 2...Precision
bearmum replied to Laird's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Precision does NOT play 1NT as anything but 13-15 B) AND some Precision styles forbid 2 4 card majors too B) -
Cue-bid opener's suit.
bearmum replied to inquiry's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
OK I play 1H/2H showing 5S and at least 4 of minor ( 5/5 if VUL v non v) AND less than 16 points with 16 or more points DOUBLE and show your distribution next time round :B) -
WHAT is "An Ussuming Club" system PLEASE - I have NEVER heard of it - Is there a site to explain it?? B) IF not WHY not ??? And IF i bump into opps playing it HOW can I prepare a defence against it 8)

RKCB 30/41 or 41/30 ?
bearmum replied to Free's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
now THAT sounds like a good idea - BUT I hope ypu laert OPPS EVERY time ?? B) right, so I use 1403 for majors and 0314 for minors ~ ;D 0314 let you have the chance to pass 5C when partner has 0 key cards -
IN Pickup games assuming 2C is 22+ - GAME force I think P should have bid 3D (if you hadn't discussed WHAT 2D was B) Having said that I ALWAYS ask "2D waiting to 2C P" :-[
