Well first up - MAYBE U should have established a FEW conventions ( RKCB ?splinters ? and what over opps 1NT ? wjs ? -- to name but 4 I can think of ) :P But allowing that you didn't even explore any of them I would take pards 3NT bid as something I didn't understand ( BUT NOT supporting spades) that I would PASS and let "expert" play the hand :P To answer your other questions 1 NO I would :) open 3D with your partners hand 2 YES I would PASS 3NT

Double + show suit, how do you play that?
bearmum replied to Fluffy's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
I think P shows 16(17 maybe) + points and a 5+ card ♥ suit -- he didn't X again to FORCE me to bid so I PASS :) (I am probably missing something important tho :P ) -
I would NEVER pass so Double the only option :)

Disappointment in BBO tournaments
bearmum replied to nilbes's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
BIGGEST problem with team matches (WHEN I can play anyway) is MOST folks seem to be looking for "experts" --- I consider myself SOMEWHERE between "Intermediate" and "Advanced" ( AND that is a subject of another string for software questions) SO I don't feel at ALL Qualified to join "EXPERT" team games - although I believe teams (ESPECIALLY B A M ) is THE most challenging form of duplicate ;) -
1 6♥ let them make a decision at 6 level 2 Pass 3 X 4 SHOULD open 1♦ STUCK bidding 2♦ now I suppose 5 5♣
-
IF 2♥ HAS to be forcing I vote for double :)
-
I would MOST probably bid 3 ♦(or at fav vul) 4♦ first time round After pard's X I (on the bidding shown) have bid 4♦ :)
-
To my way of thinking P had a hand with less than 16 points 5♠ and 4 (possibly 5)♥. I would just bid 3♥ as my hand is NOT that crash hot :)
-
PASS -- if you open in first position on this type of hand HOW in the world will partner EVER trust your bidding (This applies (IMHO) whatever the state of the game - Teams MPs or IMPS :)
-
Pass
-
Say "last hand, thx all", finish the hand, leave the table and ask your p to follow you. I agree akk_hh - BUT I would also report player to abuse , and hope that the person gets banned if enough of us report players like him/her, as I an SURE that Fred and all the others responsible for this site wish EVERYONE to obey the rules of Bridge :P
-
I voted for "3♥ but pass is close" :D -- I think that bid describes my hand best
-
I wish that there were more levels of ratings available - like RATING --whatever that is -Novice Beginner Intermediate Advanced (etc)--- + or - (because I feel there is a BIG gap between currently available ratings ( ESPECIALLY between Intermediate and Advanced mainly I believe because I fall somewhere between Int + and Adv- ) Bearmum :P

WELL SAID McBruce

the way we play Precision 2NT is 22-23 as 1♣1♦1nt = 16-19 1♣1♦2NT =20-21 1♣1♦3NT = 24-26 ALL NY bids DENY a 5 card suit BTW
-
1♥ ;) is there ANY rational reason for for opening ANYTHING else (at 2/1 that is)???
-
wouldn't open 1♣ playing SAYC 2/1 (or of course Precision) I would open it 4♣ in 1st position as we are all vul :P HOWEVER to answer your question ASSUMING I had opened it 1♣ NOW I would bid 5♣ ;)

Edited quote ALL of Maureen's suggestions look good to me - and I am NOT a director ( BUT really appreciate those folks who are willing to direct ) MY inexperienced suggestion (and I'm not sure IF it could be implemented) maybe if ONE player at a table called the TD a message to table appeared "director called by player xyz " together with Maureen's suggestion that "call director" button being disabled from that table UNTIL TD comes -- and maybe also a second message to table "you are caller number X" which would address Maureen's 3rd point :P

Competitive Bidding for a BEGINNER
bearmum replied to hallway's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
OK my 2¢ worth mainly about how HIGH to bid ;) IF you KNOW your partner has a 5 card suit (especially spades but hearts second best) and you have 3 of them -- bid to the 2 level if you have 4 of them compete to the 3 level ( taking into account point count of you have AND relative vul) IF you have FIVE(in a major) of them AND a few points -- at favorible vul bid four This is based on the Law of Total tricks (LOTT) which IMHO is a GUIDE only to what is a reasonable level to compete (or maybe to sacrifice) to (HORRIBLE grammar but I hope u all get my meaning) There is a book about LOTT but I can't remember what it is called - :P :P - but I expect Maureen already knows what it is :) -
3♥ I can't see any other bid ;)

Example why I hate regular 2/1

Some bidding decisions
bearmum replied to Deanrover's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
1. Vul v Not KQ K75 KT53 AQT3 Two passes to you and you open 1N. P bids 2♥ (trf) and rebids 3♠. Your call? 3NT – I have all other suits covered AND P figures to have about 8 points and a six card S suit 2. White v Red AJ9765 AQ KT872 Playing 2/1 you open 1s after one pass. P bids 1N, you bid 2 ♦(agree?), p rebids 2♠. Your call? What if Exclusion was available? I will PASS ( if I’m stuck with the bidding as shown ) P has only 2 spades and probably has weak ♣ suit ( and I AM assuming I am void of ♣?) 3. All vul AJ876432 J9 8 42 4. All non AJ9863 7 K54 982 2♥ pass 4♥ to you. What now? 3. bid 4♠(hoping it’s either a good sac OR opps push on to 5H which could be down ) 4. PASS -- my ♠ siut NOT good enought to bid at 4 level :) 5. All vul 6 A62 963 QJ9543 1♦ p 1♥ x 2♥ How many clubs do you bid? Four – using the LOTT and assuming P has 4 clubs (and I did pass the first time so hopefully the 4C will be mildly premptive ) NOW please remember I am ONLY Intermediate - not advanced or expert - and this was posted as a BIL problem :) -
Assuming 2NT is 20-21 (or maybe 20-22 ) I would transfer to ♥ and bid 3NT I suppose we COULD miss slam with a PERFECTLY fitting hand -- but with a Pickup partner 4♣ COULD be misunderstood , and possibly get us overboard :)
