  1. Yeah, not having a forcing minor raise can get pretty hard or even a decent auction for that matter. If I didn't have that at my disposal, I would either just try a practical 3NT or 1♦ since I can probably 4th suit GF later and support clubs. I don't like bidding 4♣ since most often partner will have a weak NT and we would tend to belong in 3NT most of the time.
  2. Transfer to spades, then bid 3♦. When partner bids 3NT over that I will continue with 4♣.
  3. Definitely 3♣. Can't stand if partner bidding diamonds if we double.
  4. 1. I pass. It's all white and I don't think I can get rich for 2 off. I'd bid if we were w/r. I think if RHO tanked I'd be more inclined to pass since by bidding 4♠ may give him a 2nd chance to re-judging giving him options of X, 4NT and 5♦ knowing his partner is likely with spade shortage. 2. I have a slight temptation to lead ♣J from the table.. Did RHO's heart card give any slight indication of count? 3. I would make the appropriate cue raise. It's important to inform partner about our heart fit rather than to take a unilateral decision ourself to play in NT. The auction may not die if we bid 1NT and catching up in the next round to tell partner of our great hand with heart support may not be available to us (or partner may not believe/understand it). Over our cue raise partner can still invite to game with an unbalanced hand etc.
  5. 1) I'd rebid 1NT. The Jxx and A10 are nice holdings for a NT contract when the lead is towards your hand. 2) I pass because nothing else fits. Nothing is wrong in getting a plus score defending, right? We have a balanced hand and full of queens. I say let's defend. 3) I would have made a negative double the previous round because I was not prepared to penalty pass 1♠X. But now I bid 3NT.
  6. I raise to 2♥ as we rate to be in a 5-4 fit.

Not sure if I would get to game. As West I would compete 3♥ over 3♦ in which East can probably raise picturing West with ♣K maybe Q, ♥J and it just depends if West has 2 or 3spades, if the latter the defense can get some spade ruffs. But as it is when West passed 3♦ I like the 2nd double from East - it informs partner that we have extra values and partner is allowed to convert it to penalties if need be. After that 2nd double it should be easy enough for West to take it out to 4♥ with good working values.
  8. 1) Double 2) 2♠/2NT/3♣, whichever one is the better(limit) raise.
  9. I double. Good things can happen and there are lots of hands that we can make game where partner is unable to cooperate over our 2♣ overcall.
  10. Would have doubled 2♠ for pass or correct. Now I double 5♠
  11. Easy Pass. My hand is pretty worthless and I've already told partner I have a few things by 3♦. Are we supposed to double and 'hope' for a close 1 off? It feels like the opponents will making 11 tricks far more often than we are taking this off. LHO can easily have 6♠ and an unbalanced hand or whatever.
  12. Pass - we have a pretty horrible hand. Replace the value of the king of diamonds to the king of hearts or clubs then I would X.
  13. It's NV and I don't have that great of a hand, so put me with 2♠ as I much prefer supporting the major rather than bidding my minor.
  14. It appears we might have a bit of an advantage since the field will most likely be using a 15-17NT and have a stayman and smolen auction. If partner has 4-5 in the minors is he bidding 3♦? As it's matchpoints, I think I'm going to bid 3♥ to get partner to assess the diamond position. I'm presuming with 5-5majors GF we would bid 3♥ over 1NT?
  15. Hmm that's tough. There are minimums like KJxxx AJxx x Axx that make it good or Kxx AKxxx x Axxx that make it bad. We could even be missing 2 aces if partner has more of a major orientated hand like KJTx AKJxx x Jxx so I think I'll buy to the preempt and just bid 5♣. Who knows, maybe partner can be 5512 as well. As to 4NT, I don't actually have a specific agreement but would probably play it as natural.
  16. Either X or 3NT, and I think I go for the latter. Really dislike 3♠.
  17. I think 3 is just about right and wouldn't consider 1 or 2 or 4. At other vulnerabilities it's different.
  18. The vul is relevant too, since I may preempt with 4♥. On the previous round I would have bid 3♠. And now...I'm definitely not passing with self suiter and Qxxx support! Slam/grand could easily be making - picture partner with 3154 or 4063 with ♦AK and a club control. I don't really know how to express doubts about a lack of a club control whilst agreeing diamonds so I will just bid 5♦. Although it might be possible to bid 4NT "two places to play" to show some interest maybe, given that if we had sufficient heart suit and 3 card support we'd probably just bid 5♥.
  19. Pass. Would like to see RHO's overcall though.
