  1. Dbl with South and 4♠ with North and yes, it's a wtp. If you don't ever act with South's hand you are just giving up to a preempt. AJAAJ and a shortage, I can't fathom a pass. North's three little hearts with values point towards bidding and our most likely game is in spades.
  2. Can the pre-empt get any more textbook-er? Okok sure we can have a 7321 or 7330 shape, but we have the ♠JT. At r/r, I will preempt 3♠ in 1st/2nd/3rd seat. 3♠ is a preempt that causes a lot of headache for the opponents, so I don't see why I wouldn't do it. 2♠ is too timid, 1♠ gets you nowhere, and 4♠ you'll be left in for penalties far too often.
  3. Dead penalty. If we had some sort of awkward 2353 shape (no ♠ stopper nor enough hearts to make a -ve dbl) we can bid 2NT showing 2 places to play as a natural 2NT doesn't make sense.
  4. What's X? But regardless isn't this a pass or am I missing something? If partner reopens with a dbl (would be takeout for me) then I'll happily bid 3♦
  5. I double again. Over 2♠ or 2NT(2 places to play) I will bid 3♥. Over 3♦ I will bid 4♣.
  6. I play the reverse of transfer advances, where direct 2♠ here is a good raise and 2♥ is a junky raise.
  7. I have 15 highs and partner forced us to at least 4♦. I am not stopping short of slam and will look for a possible grand if applicable. My ♣Q is huge, imagine if partner has 4-6 in the minors so I will now cue 4♣.
  8. Even with the 14count, I can't find a good reason to act - it has too many downsides. I'm a passer too.
  9. I pass. Maybe LHO could have done something w/r or RHO would have self raised to 2♠ with 6 of them.
  10. Yes I'd double again without any trepidation. We have extra values and we can still have game on. Nevertheless I'm not selling out to their 3♣ partscore.
  11. I always GF whenever I have an average 12 or better, so this one is actually pretty decent (5 card suit, concentrated honours) so I will bid 2♣.
  12. I'm all in for it, though I wouldn't put it as far as a "mandatory weapon". It's useful to be able to show a constructive raise after partner has opened in 3rd/4th seat and stop at a low level. One (not major) argument you can use is that being able to show natural clubs with 2♣ doesn't come up that often, frequency wise, when sometimes a) you'd respond 1NT or B) you'd have opened it 1 or 3♣.
  13. How can slam not be here? If I held that hand I would be thinking grand. We have AKK and a doubleton heart, and partner GF jumpshifted. So as it is, I would also bid 4♣ - natural bidding can sometimes be so easy. Btw, I would not have jumpshifted with your partner's hand and we still make slam with that (and possibly a grand too I might add).
  14. ♣A, always against these type of auctions. The argument is even stronger when you say it's matchpoints because if you don't lead it now, it is most likely going to run away on dummy's side suit.
  15. Yeah it is pretty random. I thought the play highly depended upon the level of the opponents (RHO mainly). And with this particular one you may not want to risk 3 off? As it was, the player at the table hooked and that meant -800 when drop wins. [hv=d=e&v=b&n=s85h9dkqj32ckq765&w=skq76hj2dt654cjt2&e=sat932h7643da8ca8&s=sj4hakqt85d97c943]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]
  16. Would have doubled 1♣, not close.
  17. Our clubs are good. It's the difference between +790 (guess right), -200 (drop fails) or -800 (hook fails and a club ruff is imminent).
  18. [hv=d=e&v=b&n=s85h9dkqj32ckq765&s=sj4hakqt85d97c943]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You're South, at ALL red, RHO deals and opens 1♠. You overcall 2♥, W bids 3♠ (5-9ish or whatever). North dbls, Pass, You bid 4♥ and it goes Pass, Pass, Dbl, All Pass. Full Auction: 1♠ - 2♥ - 3♠ - dbl Pass - 4♥ - Pass - Pass Dbl - All Pass. So you have a few losers. LHO leads ♠K, won, then ♠Q, won. Then LHO switches to ♣J to the Q and Ace. RHO now continues the ♣8 to your 9, T and K. Hook or drop? Here may be some relevant facts: - Opponents are of an Avg level (x may just be aces or something, so you don't know if it's a "pure" penalty double) - East didn't cash ♦A but returned a club, and EV wise, which position would you take?
