  1. With 4 on our left, given that we have all the x's then the 4 is from QT7x and we will always have a trump loser. The %-age play in the spade suit needs several factors taken into account since we are in 7♠. Like Ken suggested, we need to equal with the field who are in maybe 4/5/6♠. It's a bit complicated since trying to cater for people in 4/5/6♠ takes quite a bit of time. I'll neglect 4S since that has high chances of making and if it goes off then we're going to have a hard time in 7S trying to get a decent score. Assuming the other tables are going to get a red suit lead they will probably try and set up diamonds sometimes losing 1C,1D and hopefully 1S for people in 5S as they'll probably play spades starting from Ace and hoping for 2-2. People in 6S I am hoping they will also start off with SA and meet a 1-3 break with Qxx on their right. In that case, I think I will play a spade to the King and hope the stiff T is on my left and hook RHO's Queen.
  2. Do we know that the opponents know that our holding is AK8xxx?
  3. First instinct is 2C to have a constructive auction and to judge better at our next round. Thinking about it more 4C is becoming more attractive. 2C won't pose a threat to LHO for the "1D-(2C) auction" since we hold so many clubs and so LHO should have some easy bids. I'll up the ante and give them a guess with 4C. I don't like 3C.
  4. 4C. Not sure if partner is supposed to bid 4D over 4C with 4432 or 4531 but at least with one or two majors, Q/J-x of clubs and enough values for game there's more chances that he will bid 4D. Looking at my diamond void, maybe LHO will also help me out bidding 4D or 5D over my 4C and partner can still act. 2nd choice is 3S. And I would also assume 4D is both majors.
  5. Noone plays 2NT here as a raise also?
  6. My opinion still stands the same as the other thread. I will point out one factor for this change in that partner has opened 1C. It's more attractive to bid now (I would respond 1S) because you want to improve your partial. 3-1 club fits aren't usually that attractive. So 1) you're improving your partscore and 2) shutting LHO with the bidding space with 1S. If partner rebids 1NT, I plan to rebid 2H natural NF. If partner rebids 2NT I use the sequence to bail out in 3S.
  7. Yes, this is one of the troubles with 1D-2C if 2C is GF with something like xx xxx Q(J/x)x AKJTx. The hand in question like the others have said can bid 2NT natural and invitational (which you can do too I suppose on the hand I gave notwithstanding anything else). After 1m-2NT invite, might be nice to add in some gadget to locate a shortage in opener's hand so you don't get to 3NT with a suit wide open.
  8. I'm more interested in hand 1 in terms of club slam so I will bid 3C natural forcing to game since I may not be able to catch up with this huge 5card support later if I bid 2S. Hand 2 I would also bid 3C and will raise to 4S if partner bids 3S over 3C.
  9. The 3S bid made your hand really really good as it would most likely mean partner has 0-1 spades. Thank your opponents for it. Bid a confident 4H expecting it to make.
  10. Stephen Tu summed it up nicely. I also strongly agree with 4H on 2 after partner's 2H rebid. I hope partner's not the type to open 15-17 5H332 with 1H and rebid 2H...actually maybe I do hope he has that, so he will convert to opening those 1NT now.
  11. Agree with andyh (until he changes his answer). Yeap changed. I was also only answering in the context of OP. At NV I would definitely bid 3♣.
  12. I like a style where 2♦ promises 4+♦ after a forcing NT (but can be 3 if it was 1♥-1NT-2♦ for 4531's) and the other shapes bids 2♣. If that's the case then we have a 10+ diamond fit and I'm not ashamed of raising this to 3♦. 4♠ is still in the picture if partner is 6-4 or 5♦ with 5341 or 3NT with 5242 etc. If 2♦ was our limit then I'm sure the opponents can make 2♥ or 3♣.
  13. I don't like either black suits. Think I'd go for diamond at all forms of scoring.
  14. I don't know what 'standard' is, and this is definitely one auction you should discuss with your partner. I have given up on NF (regardless if the 2nd suit was hearts or a minor), since I want to find the right strain (can easily be 5m). 2NT vs. 3m doesn't seem like an issue comparable to finding the right strain for me. That's my take.
  15. Direct 4H: Decent 5-5/6-4, more 5-5's X: Diamonds Pass and 4H: 5-4/5-5/6-4 The hand in question I'd pass and pass partner's double.
  16. With a singleton, he'll probably like it enough to make a penalty double. With a doubleton, he'll like knowing that he shouldn't bid 5♥. With three, he'll like knowing that my values aren't pulling their weight in defence, and will use that to judge what to do. With four clubs, he'll probably like them enough to bid 5♥. I don't think a fit jump should set up a forcing pass. With this hand I'd bid 4♣ and then double 5♦ to show extra values. Yeah sure. I think I was trying to make a small point that x/xx/xxx aren't exactly bad holdings for partner since we're the one looking at AKQTx. Especially if he's bid 4♥ on something like Axx AKxxxx xxx x.
  17. I don't like misfitting 3NT's. I pass and come back in later.
  18. 1C. We could be sacrificing in 5D afaic.
  19. I would, but I think it depends what level you're at. I'd prefer not to teach a B/I to respond with this "junk". All's well if you can say that it's easy to understand its upsides and stuff, but the downsides are that they need to alter their judgement as opener when they need to sometimes 'cater' for partner to be responding light. And this alteration may confuse them even more.
  20. Is 3C/4C fit jump really going to help out partner that much? Is partner meant to like his x/xx/xxx of clubs? I understand it is "getting our hand off our chest" but how is partner going to evaluate those club holdings? I guess xxx isn't so bad since we're leading through the supposedly real 1NT hand. I'm tempted to just have bid 4H over 1NT given we don't open light in 3rd seat. I'm also guessing 2NT over 1NT is also undiscussed. I'm not saying I dislike 3C, just wondering if it's that beneficial. Anyway, I will defo bid 5H given how the auction has proceeded. Although it's blatantly obvious that RHO has psyched given the 5D bid, I would ideally prefer a pass then 5H over partner's x if my pass was forcing inviting slam.
