We like it natural I guess - we are naturalists! Thus 1♦ is 4+ and 1♣ is 3+ - and only 3 when 4-3-3-3. Others use 5 card major - where 1♥ may include 4-4-3-2, opening 1♣ with 4-4-2-3 - maintaining 1♣ 3+, 1♦ 4+.

I play 2/1 alm GF - responder rebidding suit is NF (1M-2C-2M-3C) - and 1x-1NT (5)6-11hp. Currently we are playing a 15-17hp NT-range. But due to the 1NT response, should this be changed to 14-16hp, so opener can pass the 1NT response even with a 13 count? I am afraid of the 14+11 situation - where we might miss out on 3NT. Any thoughts?

I'd suspect they always make 10 if you don't get a ruff - so hope partner has gotten something in spades - lead the 10 of spades, win the ace of hearts, cross your fingers and lead a new spade. However, a small diamond also looks tempting - maybe partner's got the Q... With the strong hand behind you, I would not be tempted to lead a heart. Declarer can always lead towards his high honours in dummy - aggressive action is probably best. But I don't know...who knows! :P
-
My first reaction is to shift, but considering the ♠ layout, partner may have Jxxx. So for him to get a trump promotion, the dummy needs to ruff. I'd continue with a suitable high heart which describes my hand as well as possible. The diamond suit in dummy does nothing for me at this point. If partner's got Kx(x), he'll probably for win a trick with his king later on. So - 1♥ + 1♠ (promotion) + 1♦, and hopefully some potential in clubs. But then again - I don't know... who knows!

(p)-1♥-(p)-1♠ 2♣-2NT-(p)-3♣* A fairly easy hand to bid, but a general flaw in our bidding system appeared.... Q1: What should partner have when bidding 2NT? Q2: Your interpretation about the 3♣ bid?

Nice Fred! Works perfectly on my IntelDuo 2 Core 2,16GHz Ubunty Feisty 7.04 with Firefox! I have a widescreen 19" 1440:900, and the graphic looks nice. Agree with the other post about borders etc. Is this going to be a supplement or is this going to replace the existing client? I really like the idea of watching vugraph's - without installing a client. What I really would like to see - is a FULLSCREEN option. This would be nice to have in the vugraphs - which then would hide the chat. I'd also would like the option of getting the chat in a detachable pop-up or alike, so I could have that in a different window...but that might be a little tricky?! Also - there might be issues about the option of having multiple logins open at the same time. It is easier to have control over this with a client, but on a pc with several different browsers... you get the picture.

Ubuntu Feisty Fawn ( 7.04 ) Wine BBO 5.0.3 Gecko installed when BBO demanded through wine. Installed correctly, symbol.ttf placed. Not able to use large view - and symbols in auction and !S !H !D !C does not show correctly; it only shows a X...in the correct colour though... What is wrong? EDIT: Problem solved. I used a soft link instead of copying the file - something went wrong with the permissions or something.... "ln -s /media/sda1/WINDOWS/Fonts/symbol.ttf symbol.ttf" did the trick :) I am a first-time linux user, so I am pretty happy to have BBO working with Ubuntu through Wine :)

So my attempt to be creative, leading ♦8 is ... plain stupid? I pictured declarer with ♠AJ(x) ♥AQ(x) - so my reasoning was to have partner lead a major through declarer.... well - it may be (un)original, and it failed ....

I really don't know - but why is nobody bidding 2♦? Are you all using it as GF? What if 4th suit was merely a round force, asking opener to clearify holding 5-4 11-14 or 15-17, maybe showing some kind of support? 1♥ 1♠ 2♣ 2♦* F1 inv.values 3♠ shows maximum with 3 card support ♠, 3-5-1-4 Does this make it easier? I am using 2♦ as GF myself, so I could personally not use it - but this may be up for revision. edit: What is the main difference between 2♠ and 3♠ as responders second bid? And the 1♥ 2♠ bid - with a 4 card suit on the side? I use this as a GF slamtry, so this is also new for me.

Good question. Guess slam points and control card points are pretty much the same, but the separation power with ccp is better given it does not assign a point to the Q. Guess one could divide CCP by 2 and get the same result, however it is mainly because A=4 hcp + 2cp= 6ccp, K=3 hcp + 1cp = 4ccp
-
Moscito uses Slam points AKQ=321 SP Many Strong club systems uses controlpoints, AK=21 CP Any thoughts about control card points? AK=64 CCP Guess this is only a matter of partnership agreement and personal preferences? The ambiguity is not so big using CCP as to what the responder is showing. Example: Say responder is showing exactly 3-1-5-4 after 1♣-3♦, and opener relays 3♥ as a CCP-asking bid. With AQxx x Kxxxx Kxxx - SP 8, { AAQ, AKKQ, KKKQQ, KKKK } - CP 4, { AA, AKK, KKKK } - CCP 14 { AKK } 3♠ - 6SP, 2CP, 6 CCP 3N - 7SP, 3CP, 8 CCP 4♣ - 8SP, 4CP, 10 CCP ... 4♥ - 14 CCP Note that without the Q, SP lands on 3N, but here, SP and CP land on 4♣, so using CCP one looses space but gains separation power. However, relayer is often able to distinguish which card responder is showing - or he might ask with Denial Cue-bid, so maybe the petty differences are negligible? Any thoughts? Edit: maybe some will say that the first bid 3♠ is negative/minimum - thus saying 6-8 CCP = 2CP {A, KK}. This will mean 14 CCP lands on 4♦.

South ♠ 972 ♥ - ♦ AKJ542 ♣ AK85 We had not discussed bidding unusual NT with this hand, but partner was creative enough. His alternativ would be double, with a rebid of some kind. Probably ending up playing a partscore(?) he states. He also expressed that I should consider 3♥ (!) or at least 4♣ - which the latter I agree very much with. But I did not expect partner to have this monster-hand... Any thoughts about the 2NT bid?

lol we are like a thousand miles apart don't hurt yourself breaking anything up. If I was the future best bridge player in the history of the universe I'd act like that too. He's right anyway that I'm pathetic, I mean look how much time at work today I've spent on bbf when there is a perfectly good regional right up the street from me. :)

People - please! I just wanted to know how to bid this deal naturally - and maybe see some examples - with some thoughts about why, which you could stand by - NOT to start a fight! .... really folks!
-
I did not find the 4♦ cue-bid after 3♠, but it may have some merit. Gazilli may handle this deal well. However, no one has yet come up with a 1♣ opening, so I thought I'd provide one myself - using symmetric relay (which I find amazing ). 1[cl](1) - 1[sp] 1N(r) - 2[di] 2[he](r) - 2N(2) 3[cl](r) - 3[he](3) 3[sp](4) - 4[cl](5) 4[di](6) - 4N(7) 5[cl](8) - 5[he](9) 6[sp] (.r.) relay asking bid (1) 16+hp (2) short ♥, longer ♠ than ♦ (3) 6-1-4-2 (4) controll asking bid (5) 3 controllers AK or KKK (6) 1./2. controll asking bid (denial cuebid) (7) controll in ♠+♦ = A♠+K♦ according to N's hand (8) 3. controll asking bid (9) Q♠ :) not Q♦ I find this amazing - I know this of south's hand according to bidding: AQxxxx x Kxxx xx Opener can break the relay anytime below 3NT - he might even transfer to spades and bid rckb. I really like the denial cue-bids, which really are not all that difficult to learn.

(1) I do not feel comfortable opening 1NT with less than 10hcp, even with 22-25zp. If I don't have another option, I'll pass. (2) I'd like 1M to always show 26+zp ( 25+zp ♠ ). If 10-12(13)hp, 22-25zp = 1NT (3) I agree very much with this. :P This hand gave me 10hp and 26zp. But as pointed out in a previous post, there is no deduction for the bad 5card suit, which may be in order - however Zar adds 1pt when 10-14hp concentrated within two suits. So I am landing on 1NT with this hand. Good answer - ty. ps: I don't know if I use the word "canape" correctly - my default meaning is that I may have a longer minor suit.

North ♠ 3 ♥ QJT75 ♦ Q7 ♣ JT973 http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x213/firmit_bridge/vul_2_0.png too weak for Dutch 2♥ 5-4 _N___E___S___W_ p -(1♥)-2N*-(p) unusual 10cards minor weak or strong 3♣- (p)-3♥*-(p) cue - partner got the strong variant - expecting 15+hp ? It's time to show something more than club preference, right? Or is my hand still a minimum. What if partner has a void or singelton in hearts - my hand got potential, no?
-
mikestar: good point! Zar gives extra for points concentration, but he does not say anything about reduction - only when there is a misfit.

The weak NT range 10-12hp (13hp with 4333) allows 5422 but not with 5M. Holding this hand: ♠ A6 ♥ A1065 ♦ Q9852 ♣ 62 What to open? I got my 10hp, but I also got an opening hand according to my system. The weak NT is supposed to be preemptive, right? So if I got a hand which I can open at the 1-level normally - should I do that? 1♥ 4+ 9-15hp (26+zar) rebidding ♦ later show 9 cards in suit, not necessarily longer hearts. 2♥ is 5♥+4minor 7-10hp (22-25zar). 1NT is 10-12(13) but also implies 22-25zar ( not strict ). How should I open this hand - I don't know how to set the "rules". I got two descriptive bids - one is more preemptive, but may be a slight underbid(?). Need some good advice. Thanks.

Added 1 hand view. Added the possibility to change the graphic in center: size of font and "tone" it down so it is not so black... check it out! -

I may add this option - should this be displayed in the "Info" left corner? You also have the option of adding this info as text in the Header.
