  1. The advantage of the convention after a pre-emptive bid is quite obvious. Can it easily translate after the below auction too? (1M)-p-(2M)-4m! : 4c OM + 4+ minor
  2. I was able to self adjust this - the My Result hands, when I look at the cards that had been played (the "movie"-thing) - so...not that big of a problem, but I like to keep them small - so the "10" is a bit wide. Well, I have to admit - I had taken a couple of beers - so... but I was able to make an invitation. But partner never recieved this. Later, when he invited me to a different tournament, I was "blocked" - not able to attend. Twice today during a tournament, my partners alert was visible to me. As far as I know, this happened on the new version. Do not apologize for trying to make better free product! I am happy to help in any way I can :) I run it in Ubuntu 8.04 beta version, under Firefox 3 beta 4. But Flash should behave the same cross-plattform.
  3. You should consider a bug-tracking system - that being said: - When a table is FULL, and I goto the table and get a seat - the HOST-icon is nowhere to be seen. (see previos post) - My Results: the played cards do not adjust in size - they are way to big - at one time - I saw my partners alert for a brief second!! This is not good Added: Tournament - I made an entry, but partner (uses client) never got the invite. I was later not able to participate in another tournament.
  4. I am having trouble using the "exotic"-letters æ ø å [ae, oe, aa] from the nordic languages. I can see my fellow norwegians using it, displayed correctly in the BBOFlash but they are using the client. The flash version is not compatible for input of these three letters - NOT a big problem though ;)
  5. In a beginner-context, this is what is preached to new players around my parts(agree with OP). So if you are putting together a simple system, this might be a starting point. In regards to logic, there might be more to gain by rebidding 2♥. A 2 over 1 response should ALWAYS promise a rebid by responder. Therefor, you could bid a FORCING 2♥, whereas 2NT could be considered any GF hand opposite responders minimum 2 over 1. Also, I don't like a limit raise with 3c support. I personally like a drury/toronto-any-seat-gadget for this. This is something that should be figured out early. But, I gather you know this ;) and there are definetly many strong opinions in many directions. I don't know...
  6. Bug - or error: When I sit down at a table, the table name is the same as host. But the host-sign is shown besides the name. When the host leave, and a new player becomes table-host, THEN the host-sign appears. Edit: hmmm - this comes and goes. I need to recheck this.
  7. On the spot! West took ♣A and returned his last club - a friendly fellow! I was trapped in dummy, forced to play from ♦Qx...
  8. Wow - this is really something! Flash version is surpassing the client IMO.
  9. Once in a while I make an excellent bid - or crazy bid. Kind of depends on who you ask. However, the contract was excellent - if I'd only I could play the cards right.... You hold (north) AQ5 A1042 32 T873 Partner opens(south): 1♣-(1♥)-1♠!-pass ::: alert 1♠ forcing, <4 card ♠ 2♣-(2♥)-3NT!!-AP ::: so I took a shot! Down comes dummy (south): T872 J KQ65 KQJ6 Well - she found an opening (norwegian national). She is kind of lost after 1♠. What other than 2♣(?) - I did not picture this hand, but I found the "magical" 3NT. Not exactly what I expected, but still, not hopeless. lead ♥9 to J, Q and small. New ♥ to your 10 and small from east. ♣ to K which holds, ♠x to Q, which holds, ♠A which drops K west, and new spade to east J. Small diamond from East to dummy's K which wins! And now for the greeaat finnally! I asked for a card in dummy, west hesitated - I turned red, started shaking, knowing I had f****d up, seeing everything falling apart - Do you see it? Can you guess which card I took and what West returned? Not difficult to see perhaps, but a dreadfull experience! Just wanted to share - feel free to comment.
  10. It solved my problem. There seems to be an error with the gecko engine - i have been experimenting with my install lately, so I would not be surprised if this is my own doing. The result now being I do not have any more ads and popup's - which I am quite happy with even though a cruise-vacation in the Carrabien's is tempting  "It is always your fault!" - as my partner always says :)
  11. I love linux, ubuntu, and wine for making bbo run under gnome. But, with the Xfce desktop ( Xubuntu ) it did not work properly. All the pop-up-spam-thingy which reguire gecko is my main suspect at the moment. I received a long list of errorcatching when a pop-up came up. Not a biiig problem, but... I was gonna try xfce because I am planning on using it on an old laptop. It MIGHT be some conflict with the desktops - I originally installed ubuntu, then the kubuntu and xubuntu desktop - the latter not behaving properly.
  12. Good question actually - I have been pondering on an answer for several minutes now! But, I agree with Helene. Show distribution - this has impact on your minimum opening, and partner knows this. Partner will normally correct to a (to his knowledge) 5-2 major fit rather than pass with a 3c or even a 4c minor support.
  13. I have been thinking of making a ... what do you call it...uhm.... (checking downloaded files) BULLETINS - jeez. My idea is a site, where one simply inputs the hand diagram, bidding with optional alerts - and comments on whatever, maybe even picture upload of a cat, a door - or maybe the players! Let's say there are 5 different comments. And you want the option of arranging the sequence of when the diagrams, comments, bidding etc is ordered. So my plan is, if any interest, to make a bulletin-template html, pdf generator, nothing spectacular, where the order is user specified, as a free online version. I may have time after the 15th to look into it, but it may not be scheduled before summer. Kind of depends if anyone finds the idea useful. BTW - latex rules B) ps: the template generator has its followers - which is great! Hope more people find it useful :)
  14. You hold 9x J xxxxx KJxxx and you PASS over partners 1♥. LHO bids 1♠, and it goes pass back to you. 1♥-(p)-p-(1♠) - p-(p)-you I felt I had to bid something - so my alternatives was 2 of a minor, dbl or maybe a 1NT if this would be forcing for the minors. My choice was DBL - as a balancing take-out showing minors. If partner really wants to play 1♠X, I have also given him this choice. I don't like 2minor - if partner's gotten 3-1 in the minors, we miss out on a 8card fit. The question is if 1NT is an option? Partner made his view that 1NT had to be for the minors, and that dbl should show tolerance for 2♥. Does he have a point? IF 1NT is for the minors, what is the difference between DBL vs 1NT?
  15. You hold Axxx J10x AKx Axxx MP - white You open 1NT-X'-P-2C P - 2D-X*-2H! ? '=4c spades+ longer minor *=something !=natural!! clear-cut pass?
  16. You hold AKxx Ax K10xxxx x MP - red RHO opens: 1H-2D-2H-P P- X - P -3D 3H-? clear-cut pass?
  17. I apologize. I forgot to include that your choice is in third seat. I wouldn't expect anyone to psyche in first or second. Of course - I should've known ;) 1♦ then - I think that falls into the psyche groups!
  18. 2NT showing minors fall into category - but not in the poll. If not an option - pass. I have no intention of bewildering partner in first seat.
  19. I held, as responder, J xx K10xxx KQxxx Should I've bid 3minor or is t/o the correct bid? I felt a bid of 3minor would be kind of denying the other. With x xxx KQJxxx Qxx I feel 3♦ is correct. But 3♣ with the above...
  20. 1♠-(p)-1NT-(2♥) p - (p) - X what does responder have? does this depend on imps/mp?
  21. If this post had been a poll in the B/I forum, I suspect the majority would show the hand as exactly what it is - a limit raise. Given the light openings people use nowadays, I suspect the majority of the posters here also would make a limit raise. This is contradictory to the responses I guess, but the opening criteria in OP was somewhat constructive in nature. Thus a GF raise. So, I guess the moral must be - it depends on opening style :)
  22. I have a "rule" - if I am close to an opening, I do not pre-empt. Though 5♣ may have merit, I would start with 1♣ in my natural system, but with the given poll - 2♣. Follow your system - what's it there for? At least I try to respect the opening bids :)
  23. After 1♥/♠-1NT openers second bid is transfers. What is the theory behind this, and what are the advantages? Responder may "super-accepts"? 1♠-1NT (non forcing (5)6-11hp) 2♣ 5+♠ 4+♦ or 5+♠ 4+♣ 16-17hp 2♦ 5+♠ 4+♥ 2♥ 6+♠ 2♠ 5+♠ 4+♣ 2NT any GF hand ( own structure ) 3x 5+ GF Thoughts? Anyone playing this?
  24. I must have missed something - If I have support, I show support - 2♠.
