so what's your t2 play? Let's see - I see 10hp in table, 13hp in hand - South as probably 14hp when he accepted game invitation ( assuming 3♠ would be 15-17 fit points ). This leaves maximum a King for partner.... not much to hope for. I would probably expect partner to hold the spade king which he will win anyway - so I would consider leading the J♣. If partner only had the 9 of hearts, he now have a reason for a club return... but I don't know... I am not an expert - far from it! :) Added: on second thought - if partner does hold the K♠, this would be his chance to lead a club so I can play my heart winners. Maybe I should continue hearts setting them up.... you know what - I have no idea what is the best line to play for - and I have sympathy for your puzzle :)
-
The K♥ is the generic lead. If partner holds the Q, he should unblock expecting partner to have AKJx(xx). However, it looks like south holds the Qxx - thus partner should lead hearts through south.

After 3./4. seat, I use Toronto/drury after 1♥/♠ opening. With one partner I use 2♣ 3 card support GI 2♦ 4 card support GI Another partner I use 2♣ 3+ support GI My question is - should the 2♦ response remain natural, or should it be used to distinguish 3 and 4 card support? Or is this a "I like chicken better than turkey"-type of question?
-
1) Not sure I follow - how is 2♦ not strong? It is a natural reverse showing 5-4 16+hp. Double in this position, with this hand is not my choice. NFB is for responder only - not opener. I would double after 3♠. 2) I'd probably bid 3♦ to show stopper expecting 3NT or 5♣. I think I would pass 4♣.

In Norway, a lot of players shows shortness ( singleton/void ). I guess this is an alternative for the feature-showing bid where the weak 2 bid is constructive.

EDIT: omg - I MAY NOT KNOW MUCH.... ( read topic-title ! ) Added: E/W uses 5 c major, best minor, 5c M NT. Bidding goes ( east open ): 1♣ - X - p - 1♠ p - 2♣! - p - 2NT p - 4NT - p - 5♦ p - 6♥ - ap lead ♠2 - 10 played to East J. Dummy: K109x xx 10xx AJ10x Declarer x AKQxxx AKJ98 x East returns a little diamond, you play ♦A, west playing the ♦7!! Is this a problem or useful information? Hmm - you cash AKQ hearts, a couple more hearts, but no useful information regarding points. Added: East showed up with Jxx of hearts, pitching a club and spade after 5 rounds of hearts. West pitching two spades and a club + 2 hearts. Now what?? ♣ to A, ♦10 from table.... small from East - now what? What is the best line to play for?

Continuation: 1♠-2♥-3♣-3NT- 4NT! is 4NT quantitative in this position?
-
Is this not textbook KQJxx K10 Ax KQxx 1♠-2♥-3♣? Partner suggested strongly that I should've bid 3NT. Why not search for a minor suit slam?

Standard bidding, 2/1 - 1♣ 4-3-3-3 (4c major) or 4+♣ Bidding goes uncontested 1♣-1♦ 1♠-2♥* This we agree on. I picture opener having 4-3-2-4/4-2-2-5. Could opener have 3♦? I thought not. ... 2♠- 3♣ 3♦ So when I set trumph with my solid AKJxx of clubs Kxxxxx of diamonds, I took his 3♦ as cue with Ax (worst case Qx). ... 3♦-3♥ 3♠-4♣ 4♦-4NT 5♠-5NT 6♦-...7♣ Opener had: AKxx xxx AQx 9xx Responder: - Ax K109xxx AKJxx Opener thought diamonds was agreed, responder thought clubs was agreed. How should the bidding go?
-
Saw this hand the other day. Partner opens 1♠ (11-19hp), you hold: ♠ AJTxx ♥ x ♦ Txx ♣ 98xx Playing mini-splinter, 2NT invitational, jumps as pre-emptive. What is the "correct" bid? I feel 3♠ is an underbid, and 4♠ is a longshot. And I feel 3♥(game-invite) is a slight overbid... but - why jump to 4♠ when a 3♥ is descriptive?

Response to partners major

;) like I said in the beginning - I got this from a friend, but I am getting tired of defending it. I just wanted some constructive feedback, which I have received - no doubt. -

Well - I thought it was clear that responders showed 5c+ when he rebids spades. [2SP] is not a relay merely the strongest 5c+ bid responder can show. 1♦-1♠ 2♥- -- 2♠ 5+♠ RF ( it is this outline the post focuses on ) -- 2NT 4 ♠ RF -- 3♣ minimum 5♠ -- 3♦ minimum 4♠ NF -- 3♥ GF natural -- 3♠ GF can play against a singelton but - it is probably a waste of energy -

I'm afraid I mislead you on the original post - with the 4-6 hand - original post will be edited to: 1♦-1♠ 2♥-2♠ 4♦ is of course 4-6 in the reds and 1♦-1♠ 4♦ is 4♠ and 6♦ with HHxxxx -
Got this idea from a friend. Please comment 1m - 1♠ 2♥* 1) reverse or, 2) 4♠ invitational support, and singel ♥ or unbid minor! 1♦ - 1♠ 2♥ - 2♠ - 2NT 2-4-5-2 - 3♣! singel ♣, 3♠ support : 3-4-5-1 - 3♦ true reverse : 1-4-5-3 - 3♥ 6♦ + 5♥ - 3♠ 4♠ support, singel ♥ , NF : 4-1-4-4/4-1-5-3 added and edited!! - 4♦ 4♥ + HHxxxx ♦ , 1462 1♦ - 1♠ 4♦ is 4♠ + 6♦ HHxxxx Does this have merit? added: this also allows for 1♦-1♠-3♥ to show a balanced 18-19hp 4c spades, given this bid is no longer used as GI splinter

(1NT) - pass - (pass) - DBL!! AP It may be correct to dbl LHO 1♥ but I was not sure if partner would take it as penalty or spade showing with values. Anyway, I expected dealer to rebid 1NT which she did, and I got to dbl. 1NTX-3 vul, 800 our way. Any thoughts about my first pass? Anyone else who would open first seat 1♣? A lot of strange results on this board: 1NTX E 4 800 3NT S 10 630 2HJ N 9 140 1NT V 7 -90 2SP S 7 -100 3HJ N 7 -200

Pass is forcing, no doubt, but what would a DBL by opener show? What does partner show by DBL your forcing-pass?

http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x213/firmit_bridge/vul_3_0.png ♠ Q95 ♥ AQJT52 ♦ 5 ♣ AK9 (p)-1♥-(p)-2♦ (2♠!) - ? Now what.... What is your bid and reasoning? Added: 2 over 1 almost GF - rebidding minor NF. None vul

I use standard leads - 3rd and 5th vs suit contracts. But can somebody explain why 4th best is superior vs NT? Or is it?
-
I doubt opps will be silent with you holding this hand. ;) But I can see what you mean. There are several GF routes with slam-interest left. So why not have some kind of "picture-jump" available. Still, I would say this hand is a bit low for any kind of "picture-jump" - I feel spades should have more potential. I have a feeling this is kind of an "upstream"-bid - not your everyday problem, thus not so well defined. Anyway, I would say the first sequence is slam-going with no other agreements.

How would you bid these?
firmit replied to kenrexford's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
What is 2H used for? When 1C-1D* is alerted as no 5-card major - but generally promise diamonds or a 4 card major, I guess? XYZ non-existing, but 1S is forcing, I would say 2C may be used to show simple club support and 4c hearts - leaving 2D to show diamonds. This leaves 2H...don't it? Any NT bid by responder implies H and no fit so... If this is the case, I would say 1C-1D-1S-? - 2H* - 2S - 3S responses should be well defined, all jumps being some kind of RF fit-jump invitational. Edit: given that 1D may be artificial, 2H is not 4th suit GF. Therefor, this might be used in some other way, with 2H a combo: a question of spade quality - 2S: HHxx, 2N: Hxxx, 3S: HHHx or better, and a RF spade raise.... but i don't know... just a thought :) -
This happened monday-night. The bidding sequence: (1♠)-p-(p)-X (XX)-p! Partner passed openers redouble. I have a natural T/O but no suit to bid planning to pass this one out given that I expect partner to sit with a close openinghand and/or good spades Is this the natural assumption?
-
Maybe this is a stupid comment - but here it goes. Opener jumps in his original suit - does he not almost establish trumph? except when responder bids 3NT? What is wrong about 4♣? It is obviously forcing, so what denies opener from cue-bidding? What's the worst that could happen? If opener bids the expected 4♦ and responder bids 4♠ - is it not clear to opener that responder has slam interest without heart control?
-
My first reaction is - hope you got an airbag! ;-) I did not even consider bidding 3NT with this hand - interesting choice but I don't buy it. It's 4NT for me.

(..) It can't be a bad method given that Helness-Helgemo and Brogeland-Sælensminde play it. Roland So what, have these guys ever won anything important? lol
