I believe we're all resulting for the normal auction is 1H-2H-4H. Some people just don't like other's resulting but they're own.
-
My mistake for not adding KC to my auction. I was in a hurry... ;)
-
Is my auction more awful than the one you proposed for reaching 6♥? A limit bid with 10 HCP's and a 4333?

question on partnership trumps
Hanoi5 replied to jogs's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
My partner once led my suit and gave a ruff and discard. It's not the only time it's happened to me. -
1.a. Pass. b. Pass. Hoping partner can have them down. c. Second best heart. 2. 4♠.
-
Or: 1♥-2♥ 3♣-4♥ 6♥
-
♣K, AQK♦, ♥A and ♣A. They're discarding on the diamond if not 3-3 and I still have the heart finesse ( ) available.

Swiss Team Scoring
Hanoi5 replied to rduran1216's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I was going to suggest that. Playing the same boards will solve the 'luck' factor in this case. How many tables were there? Sometimes you just need to duplicate at the table one board (the first they played) and then have all the tables take their boards from a place in the room (of course in case you don't have a duplicating machine). -
1. Asking for help in the suit. A, K a singleton void, of course, but also a doubleton. This is at least the a priori meaning. 2. Yes, 3♣ should ask for help in clubs. 3. Yes, you can use 2NT as a general try. You can also use it to show some values in spades offering 3NT as the final contract (this is of course because they bid spades, this meaning makes more sense than the general try, I'd say).

Maybe he's the guy who first said: 'The googles! They do nothing!!!"
-
3♥ was too much, why didn't you bid 2♥? All the approaches (2♥, 2NT or 3NT) mentioned would have worked in this hand. Why 3♥?!
-
South got too excited when he heard 2♦. 3♦ is inviting but maybe with less values. I suppose I'd bid 2NT, but I wonder if the red suits had behaved we'd be watching this topic...
-
I'd start with 2♥, this might fetch 2♠ from partner and then I'd bid 2NT. A direct 2NT is 11-12 for me and although I have 13 my hand is kinda ugly and I don't want to punish partner for doublin g with a shapy hand.
-
Do you really have two places to play? What would partner bid with Tx-Tx in the reds? I also bid 2NT, but I'm sure 4♥ is the experts choice.
-
Isn't there an inference that the person who makes a long suit try when there are three available suits will skip a suit where s/he needs no help? So in this case when partner asks about diamonds he needs help in the suit but does not need help in clubs. Could the overcaller hold: AKxxxx Qxx Qxx A? Then 3♥ leads to 4♠, but should advancer bid 3♥ with Qxx Kxx xxx KQTx? I'm not so sure.
-
When South bids 3♠ s/he's trying to show a good hand with some defense, s/he already knows that 4♠ would be a good sacrifice but opponents haven't bid it yet and he could also bid 4♠ with a hand with less defense (KQJ9xxxx x x AKxx, here you could find black singletons in the opponents' hands). However, when they reached game and partner didn't react by doubling (with some defense and no spade fit, for example) or bidding 4♠ South could take the action s/he knows is better scoring-wise. Of course one may argue that South defense is not that good in front of a passed partner and that a passed partner will never have good enough defense for a double but this could have been solved by having the Director ask South (away from the table) what were his reasons for bidding like this.
-
Worse maybe. By how nice/friendly s/he looks to others. I got a reputation vote for a funny video. Some people get lots of reputation votes for their ironic comments. I'd say follow posters who are someone in real life. Someone who signs with his/her real name and you can actually see them in a bulletin or something are worth following and hearing advice from. Someone who won a spot in the Bermuda Bowl is worth listening to, too.
-
West. 4♣ is the correct bid by him I'd say.
-
You can claim at any time as long as you state your line of play. When there is a trump (or more) outside you have to say how you will play it, i.e. if you're going to take it out, if opponents are gonna win it, etc. Failing to mention the outside trump (or a finesse or any other play) means you can be down (at least in a F2F tournament). In the internet opponents can reject the claim and you can try to play it out, but in a live tournament all play ceases after the claim and then the Director is called to the table, and if you weren't clear on your statement you might lose that little trump you didn't mention...
-
It all depends on agreement. 3♥ could be a'pre-emptive' move so that opponents don't balance and find a fit (they've already mentioned spades so maybe this isn't worth doing, but still a matter of agreement). 2♠ and 3♣ should both be try-bids, asking for help in that suit in order to play game. If 3♥ is an invitation East should accept, he's got 10 HCP's and a 6-card suit (for many this might be a invitation to game by itself not a simple raise)
-
I continue passing. I still think partner has diamonds but my hearts don't look good enough for doubling.
-
I guess it could be: 1. 4-card spade suit offering to play in the moysian fit. 2. 5-card spade suit with a very weak hand. 3. 6-card spade suit with a very weak hand. 4. A way for partner to force the bidding. 1 seems interesting, 2 is sort of ridiculous, 3 depends on what you're playing the direct 2♠ to be (if the jump is weak then it cannot be that) and 4 means partner should learn to cue-bid (could he be afraid that a cue-bid sounds like fit+great hand? great two-suiter?). What I REALLY think it shouldn't be is forcing with 5♠'s (or more) and a strong hand. 1♠ would have been forcing so the 'double then bid' to show a strong hand shouldn't apply here.
-
2♣ before. Now I pass, partner might have diamonds, if he doubles 3♥ I don't know what I'll do (4♣?). He might bid 3NT next, though. I don't know what's worse.
-
Bidding goes: [hv=d=e&v=0&b=14&a=pp1c1hd2h3dp]133|100[/hv] Is 3♦ forcing? What do you bid as East with: ♠Q8xx ♥K8 ♦J9xx ♣K85

"No problem yet!"
Hanoi5 replied to kayin801's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I agree with 3♦, but, is 4♥ forcing?
