ATB: Missed vulnerable game
Hanoi5 replied to the_dude's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I think North can double 2♠ as a take-out. South is lacking strength to overcall at the two level I think (the ♥J would make it easier and the ♥10 automatic). Getting to game is not neccessarily correct. Two losers in spades and diamonds and a trump loser. I think N/S should be happy just to compete. -
What does 5C show here?
Hanoi5 replied to jules101's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
This hand is so weird, are there two decks in play? 5♣ could be a second suit but I'm still afraid we're off two aces, I'd bid 5♦ but I'm passing 5♥ I'm afraid. -
1D - 1H - do you bid 1S or reverse into 2S?
Hanoi5 replied to jules101's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
1♠, it's hard to find a hand for partner to pass the bid and be bad. Yesterday I held: ♠AJ43 ♥AK4 ♦9 ♣AKQ64 With this I bid 2♠ of course. Take away a king and I'd still would have bid 2♠. I think that's the limit. I agree with mgoetze that the void in hearts would make 1♠ easier, but I still think 2♠ might be too much while 1♠ would not be passed when it shouldn't. -
Goulash? I don't think it's a good idea to play a normal system in goulash. Maybe the answer is to start slow, 1♥ or even 1♦ and make it look like we're the ones sacrificing over 5♠. Of course if you don't feel creative or willing to take chances just open 6♥.

I think West should have been the one complaining, why would East double an artificial diamond bid with 9xxxx?
-
That's right Csaba, and that's why I asked at the beginning if thinking partner made a mistake was a LA. 4♠ is either a mistake or one of the two things I mentioned. If imagining partner made a mistake is a possibility then it's ok, but bidding on is also a possibility and then pass shouldn't be accepted, I think.
-
Is thinking your partner made a mistake an alternative? It's hard to take 4♠ as something other than a mistake: - 4♠ besides the 6 hearts? - Spade cue-bid looking for a slam? Maybe 4NT is the best alternative. Pass might be too much, I wouldn't accept it as LA, especially if it was suggested by something at the table.

Did anyone mention that you're down on the normal ♥K lead?

I was trying to upload hands for a team match on Friday. I had two problems: 1. I tried uploading the hands after all the team members had accepted the invitation (and therefore were in their position with cards dealt by the program). I always received an error so I couldn't do it. 2. I thought the problem was with the file: I had created it with Dealmaster Pro. So I just entered each hand with the BBO movie program specifying that the hands would be used by two teams (the file is different as it has each hand twice). Then I asked for Diana's help and we set up the match, but there was a catch: one member has to wait before accepting while the match creator uploads the hands. So in the end I didn't know whether the file has to be special (created with BBO program) or if it can be created with any dealer OR if you only need any LIN file and a 'late' mamaber of the team match so that the hands can be uploaded. There's another thing: if you create a LIN file with the hands and send it to each match creator that person has to use the BBO program, not the browser version, to create the match and upload the hands.

I think there are three issues: - There have to be good computers/laptops for the 12 people involved. When I say good I mean capable of connecting to internet through WiFi and capable of managing new browsers or the BBO program. - The internet connection has to be good. I'm not sure how good but there'll be 12 machines (at least) connected to the internet sending and receiving information, if you don't want everybody with a red dot you better have at least 1 mbps. - For ethical reasons get some sort of Director at the site so that s/he keeps order.

Can responder be looking for a heart 4-4 fit with 5♠ and 4♥? Why would a/he want to play NT with 5-4 in the Majors? Im not saying 3NT is/isn't serious (I don't play that and barely know what it means) I just think that sequence doesn't make sense (unless it is offering 3NT as the final contract even though there is a fit in spades).

When can you get downvotes? It could turn the Fora into an interesting war...

If I had re-checked 'The Complete Balancing...' by Lawrence before answering I would have gotten 80. 2♠ is intermidiate, some 11-15 and although this hand looks that good there are only HCP's in two suits and a void in a suit partner is expected to hold length and strength. 3♠ is said to be (in that book) a long and good suit/hand that'll take 9 tricks in front of 10-11 random HCP's. I think this fits that description.

Welcome to the forums. The ranking theme is a recurring one with no agreement, except that it will remain this way. Create your own rank: add notes to players descriptions, these notes only you can see.

Teams: [hv=pc=n&w=skjt42ha852d752c4&e=s6hkqt974dakj8c75&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=1hp3d(10-11%204-card%20heart%20support)p3sp3np4dp4np5sp6hppp]266|200[/hv] 3♠ is a cue-bid. 3NT also shows a spade cue-bid.

When I wrote my post I meant that X by North seemed fine and after that 4♠ by South. If North decides to Pass South cannot bid unless his/her partner took a long time before passing. And that was sarcastic.
-
Doesn't 3 HCP's in your hand and at least 7 but maybe 13 in your partner's hand call for it? I also thought of a heart first but it was just automatic. A club seems reasonable, though, not neccessarily speculative.
-
X by North doesn't look crazy. 4♠ by South doesn't either.

When you open with a weak NT (12-14) and you get doubled (penalty), is this a good runout scheme: 2♣ Stayman 4-4 or 4=5 in the majors 2♦ Xfer to ♥ 2♥ Xfer to ♠ 2♠ Xfer to ♣ 2NT Xfer to ♦ XX Name your first four-card suit we'll try to stop at the first 4-3 fit Pass Forces the redouble from opener to pass (with 10+?) or bid your 5-card minor suit (or with a weak 4333) So basically everything remains the same but pass forces the redouble and redouble is some kind of Baron. What if the opponents 'psych' double us? I suppose that's what the redouble is there for. Or what if after the redouble they just pull to a suit? I suppose the double would be for penalty and you could just bid your game (3NT?) with the appropriate HCP's (and hand). Anything else? What is wrong with this?
-
Maybe I'm wrong but I think a couple of times the otter 'predicted' the child movement. If this is the same video I saw in facebook...
-
I play 4♣ to show both Majors, no slam interest.

Congratulations! You have a lot of friends in the forum. And you're great finding topics. But sometimes you're mean. But good bridge players are always like that. And this is very personal I suppose.
-
I thought of jumping right away to 6NT but I'll KC in hearts first. I suppose I can stop in 5NT if partner has 0 KC. By the way, that's a mean Multi, do you have a link to the convention? ;)
-
I bet North just thought with the ♥ void that his/her partner was penalizing the opponents with a lot of trumps. Or something. Anyway I blame North, South did well to double (assuming the double not to be penalty). If the 4♥ X is meant as penalty then South should have done something else.
-
1♠ would be my choice but I'm sure 2♠ is quite a possibility. I think my hand is not that bad, if I get my partner to support me showing a limit hand I like my odds at game. 2♠ has the vulnerability in its favor, though.
