  1. Pass. Anything I do could take them to a better contract. Even if my partner holds 5 spades they have a fit there while they might not in hearts.
  2. In natural bidding 4-4's are bid up the line (?) while 5-5 the other way around. I just read that when partner doubles a minor suit opening for takeout and we hold a hand where a cue-bid is not an option we should bid the highest ranking suit, so that in case the need arises to bid again we can bid the lowest ranked Major and partner can then pass or correct as s/he chooses. This sounds logical, but, is it common/normal?
  3. Roger Lee, who is battling against the Nickell team and I think doing a good job so far.
  4. 1. There's no dummy so anyone playing at the table can call the Director. 2. I bet he can but I suppose he shouldn't. The correct procedure after an irregularity is to call the Director. 3. It does make a difference: a. North might be able to change his/her call if it was inadvertent and s/he noticed right away. b.& c. There are rectifications to be made in the case of a conventional bid.
  5. In these hands you have nothing to do. The question is one to mislead the opener into playing another diamond I suppose, you might call the Director but I don't think there's nothing really he can do. Just don't pay attention to what they ask. On the second one you brought the demise to yourself by bidding 2♦.
  6. Count me in the 2NT train. It's ugly but it's probably the best way to get to our most likely game. 1NT, 2♠ would be my second/third choices.
  7. Isn't double negative? I think I'd double and get to six in the major partner bids. If he doesn't bid a major, I'd cue-bid, which I expect partner to understand as a two-suiter. Thankfully (or regretfully) no one's come up with a double exclusion KC.
  8. I think if the Director knows something as a fact he should use his knowledge.
  9. You should try to go slower, 2♠ over 2♦, 4♦ over 3♥ but in the end it'll be your partner's decision to play the highest scoring small slam. Of course by going slower you make it easier for him to choose NT.
  10. I'd lead a diamond. 2♣ wasn't natural, so I don't think the double calls for that. But it will be nice to know the lightner implications in this case.
  11. Stop playing with South, s/he has a clear double over 2♣.
  12. What is the difference between 3♠ and 3NT? Not much I'd say, I think I'll go with a double first, it might come 4♠-Pass-Pass and then I don't know what to do but more isteresting things can come, players are wary of pre-empting 3rd seat opening bids, so this might make it easier for our side.
  13. All red your partner opens 3♦, first hand and you hold: ♠AQJT6 ♥Q732 ♦K4 ♣62 3♦-Pass-???
  14. I would have opened 3♠ and responded 4♠ in the actual sequence. I'm not sure it shows diamonds though.
  15. Why would I overrule my partner? I'll just have a talk after the hand to let him know we'd better go slow (especially if there's something better available.
  16. You hold: ♠Kx ♥T87654 ♦xx ♣K98 2♣-2♥-2♠-???
  17. I'd chicken out, 4♣, which is what I should have opened.
  18. I watched both videos. It's just a Briton with a problem with a Director in BBO.
  19. If 2NT is strong the double would be a competitive action. Maybe it also shows 4 diamonds? I'd go 3♣ and 4♣ on the second one.
  20. 2♣ opening bids are hard to handle. Little space, not common, etc it all ends in difficult situations to handle. Add some disruption by the opponents and then we have: ♠AKJ ♥AKJT9xx ♦ ♣AQJ 2♣-Pass-2♦-3♦ ??? Let's say you just bid 3♥, what would 4♣ by partner be? What about 3NT? What would you bid over each?
  21. [hv=pc=n&w=saht8dat742ckqjt6&e=s2hk54dkqj85ca432&d=n&v=b&b=13&a=4sdp4np5dp6dppp]266|200[/hv] Of course the ♥A wasn't well placed. Comments?
  22. There's a lot of remorse bidding and playing in bridge, people should learn to trust their partners and their own decisions. If you decided not to open a 12-count and your hand has not improved, why get to a game on your own if partner can't help you?
  23. I've given away lots of contracts but I think I'll lead a club.
  24. 1♦ Torn between 4♠ and double. 1NT, yes I love doing that.
