  1. Partner doesn't have Majors and doesn't like diamonds? Does it mean he has clubs? Could he have a 3334? 6♣ looks kind of gambling but it's either that or pass.
  2. I don't like 4♥ by North, 4♣ looks better.
  3. I'd blame West 75%. 3NT merely states values in spades while West holds Aces and a void with four small cards (the splinter could be made with a singleton).
  4. The thing with 6♦ is that it should be better with a fit and some balanced hands don't promise a fit. I only made 100 hands per case so maybe that's where the difference comes from. I didn't use 5422, maybe that's why diamonds were better in my simulations. I used AT2 43 AQT65 KQ7 as the original hand.
  5. I agree with 2♥ but your partner doesn't have a double so your not the only one at fault.
  6. Since I learned bridge 11 years before being born I'd like to know which books, resources, etc teach this 1x-1♥-3♥ as 18-19 balanced. It's just to get in touch with modern bridge and to find out what they do with 15-17 unbalanced and 4-card support for hearts. I had seen LOL's bidding 2NT with 4-card support and 18-19 and thought it was some sort of aberration from them or from their teachers. What's the rest of the structure?
  7. 1. 14 with a good 5-card/6-card minor = 6♦=35% 6NT=23% 14 with a good 5-card/6-card minor or a good 5-card Major = 6♦=26% 6NT=21% 2. 15 Balanced but not a 5-card suit = 6♦=58% 6NT=60% 3. 15 with a good 5-card/6-card minor = 6♦=54% 6NT=45% 15 with a good 5-card/6-card minor or a good 5-card Major = 6♦=57% 6NT=58% 4. 16 4333 = 6♦=75% 6NT=76% 5. 16 No 4333 = 6♦=71% 6NT=73% 6. 17 No 4333 = 6♦=89% 6NT=92% 7. 17 4333 = 6♦=88% 6NT=91%
  8. Well I made one including all 7 and got 6♦ makes 64% of the time, while 6NT 66%. It's harder to find the killing lead against NT than against Diamonds I suppose a good five or six card suit in the case of 14 or 15 HCP's includes hands with 5-card Majors (I suppose no 6-card Majors).
  9. And, is it one simulation with everything or 7 different simulations? If you want 7 then, 16 4333 and 16 are different or can 16 include some 4333's?
  10. In a team event where all the tables are in the same room the boards are picked up from a table in the center so that everyone plays the same boards. At one table North-South have a misunderstanding and go down for 2000 points. When they're comparing the score: 1. The board was changed (fouled) sometime afterwards (what about previously) and their teammates didn't get to play the same board. 2. The board just wasn't played at the table because they miscounted the number of boards or just missed it. 3. One of the players at the other table announces s/he has information about the board from a comment (not neccessarily about the 2000) What's the ruling in each case?
  11. I blame East. Why would his/her double show 3 diamonds?
  12. KT83 in LHO is unmanageable unless you see his/her cards and play a small spade to the 7. Finessing seems normal so the only problem is losing to the king and having a diamond returned for a ruff so I suppose a spade to the Ace and another spade is the right play. Edit: Oh! You could play a small spade from North towards the Q. But if RHO plays low and you insert the queen you lose to KTxx in East. Was there any pause after you bid 6? Could the lead from a club honour mean that West holds a 'possible' spade trick? Or could it just be asking for a diamond switch if partner gets the hand? I stand by Ace and another.
  13. ♠T8x ♥Jx ♦Axx ♣KJTxx Partner opens in 4th seat with 1♦ (you play best minor if you need to know). RHO passes. MP's.
  14. Do we really need this? I think the game needs to be simplified if anything not getting more difficult.
  15. I would have bid 4♥ which shows this hand. Now that partner has 'closed' with 3NT I might pass which will make my misbid in the previous round have sense. 1x-1y 2NT should be used with balanced hands with no fit for partner's suit. In cases where we hold 4-card support 4 of the Major stands out as the best bid to describe our hand.
  16. I think 2♠ is right the first time. Maybe 6♥ the next time. Or 5 if you're timid.
  17. 4♠, of course. I even thought a bit before passing 4♠. Is 3♦ (10-11 4-card supp) better? What would you have bid over 1♠?
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=skq854hkq6dk97ck3&n=s7632h4dj8caqjt42&d=s&v=n&b=15&a=1sp3c(4-card%20supp%207-9%20HCP)p4sppp]266|200[/hv] It starts very well with a small heart to the Ace and a diamond back. You put a small one which is rewarded with the Ace and another diamond goes back to the Jack, Queen and King. How do you continue?
  19. ♠--- ♥AT4 ♦AK43 ♣KJ9874 All red, imp's, you open: 1♣-1♠ ???
