  1. If you have no agreement then bid 5♣. If you feel too confident then bid 6.
  2. I'd win the queen and play a small diamond towards the 6.
  3. North would bid 2♠. How many diamonds does East bid next?
  4. I'm with hrothgar. This could end up in a contest of who plays better instead of what system is better. Maybe an equitable solution would be to have both 'studies': all parties interested tell their 2's opening results and the complete hands are posted (saved, whatever) and then used in the experiment.
  5. I think the actual lead was very creative and good. Well, At least it turned out good. A spade now seems fine.
  6. I'd pass here. 90 from 2♣ beats 50 from setting them, and 100 is better if we double. But I'm afraid of finding ♣AQ with declarer and ♦KJ in dummy. I'd prefer double to 2♣, though.
  7. 2NT. Hopefully partner won't bid 3NT without a heart stopper or not try to find a fit. 2♠, if it shows 5 would be my second option but NT looks so much better. Isn't this the typical problem hand that comes up once every 5 years and the Italians (60's and 70's) had a system for it and some people have gadgets or opening bids specially for it?
  8. 6♠, hard to get to a better contract I believe. Maybe 5♥. I'd be afraid of partner passing 5♣.
  9. [hv=pc=n&s=shkt2dakqt2ckt832&n=sqt2haqj3dj93caq4&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1d(2+%2C%2011-15)p1hp3cp3sp]266|200[/hv] Truth is it went downhill from there and somehow we landed in 6♦. We won 12, I won't complain but I'd like to know: Is this better opened 1♣ (16+ any hand)? How does responder show his hand after 3♣? How do I get to 7 this way?
  10. That book 'Bounce' is really great. Especially if you need a boost to your self-esteem after playing/watching/knowing about a feat in your sport/hobby. But really, it is a good read (I got the audio-book and haven't finished though, I'm listening about the superstitions part) What the book says is that anyone can get to the level of expert in any given area by spending 10 thousand hours of purposeful practice. If you play a tourney where they allow you to play in hearts at the two-level with 18 HCP's and only five cards in spades between you and your partner, I wouldn't consider that purposeful practice. If, on the other hand, you discuss with your partner this situation and imagine what you would do with the opponents' cards, how you could have gotten to a spade contract with their cards, whether there would have been more competition and how the defense and play would go better in each case, then that might just be purposeful practice.
  11. [hv=pc=n&s=sa3hakj43dakt32ct&n=s5h962d54cakj9432&d=s&v=n&b=15&a=1c(16+%2C%20any)1s2c(Nat.%20FG)p2hp3hp4np5cp6hppp]266|200|[/hv] ♠K is led. What's your plan?
  12. You're red, playing a team match and hold: ♠KTx ♥AQxx ♦xx ♣QT9x Pa-1♥-X-3♦(10-11 with 4-card support) Pa-3♥-Pa-???
  13. All red, team match, After two passes what would you open with: ♠Jx ♥AKTx ♦AQ6xx ♣xx 1♣ is 16+, 1♦ at least two cards 11-15, 1NT: 13-15.
  14. 2♦ was a transfer to hearts (at least 5) with 8+ HCP's. Your partner knows you have only hearts to show, either because you have the first hand (balanced) or the second (one-suited).
  15. 1♣-2♦ 2♥-3♣ 3♥4♣ 4♥-??? ♠Qx ♥AKJxx ♦QJx ♣Qxx You're red, they're white. It's imps. You already told your partner you held 3 controls (AK or KKK) and 5 hearts to AK, AQ or KQ. Can/would you do anything? What if you held: ♠--- ♥AKJxxxx ♦QJx ♣QJx
  16. Use the 'insert link' button when creating a topic or post.Any name. It will ask for the name of the page and the words you want seen.
  17. Does partner have something in hearts in order to ask for a stopper? Could he have xx or xxx?
  18. ♠AKxx ♥6xxx ♦Txxx ♣x Pa-Pa-1♦-4♥ X-Pa-Pa-Pa Your double was for penalty. You're red, they're white. Imp pairs. What's your lead?
  19. ♠Jxx ♥QTx ♦Tx ♣KQxxx Pa-Pa-Pa-1♦ Pa-1N-2♥-3♥ Pa-??? They're red, you're white. Imp pairs. SAYC. What's the normal meaning of 3♥? What other meaning couldit have? If you agreed for it to ask for a heart stopper, would you bid 3NT with the above hand?
  20. What shall we do over a transfer to spades if we opened 1NT?
