  1. Or we want to get them down/try defending at 2♠. 3NT is also a little too much. Why didn't West bid 3♥? Not that it would get them to a much better spot but 3NT is too one-sided. I'd say East 75, West 25.
  2. No the app is... an app. So it just needs android.
  3. And how does 4♠ mean clubs instead of diamonds?
  4. They're red, we're white: ♠A8 ♥AKT9x ♦8x ♣9xxx 1♣-(2♠)-3♥-(Pa) 4♦-(Pa)-??? MP's
  5. I agree it is normal to take detours in certain situations because of the possible benefits. However, I'd call it a psych, very dangerous bid and probably serious error to lie about the number of key-cards you hold (even though you can 'lie' about holding the Queen) and to show a different number of controls than you have if your 1♣-16+-opening-partner asks for them. There are things you can lie about and there are things you can't. Is that correct?
  6. I totally agree with this. But I think the others meant that even though you have an agreement you can sneak out of it and that it is responsibility of the partner to verify it. Say you hold a hand good enough for 3NT, no majors in front of partner's 1NT opening. But you think bidding 3NT would be better if you find out partner holds 4 hearts. So you bid stayman and partner shows 4 hearts but when you bid 3NT goes to 4♠. And you go down either passing 4♠ or bidding 4NT, would you blame partner for by-passing your 3NT? I think if you play that 2♠ shows 2 of the top three you CAN'T bid 2♠ with the mentioned hand. If you agree to show 2/3 or very good six, then I have no issue with it. But I too might jump to 7NT if you show me 5 cards to 2 honours and by pass a question I don't need to ask.
  7. I really thought the 2/3 honours when giving a positive hand over a 2♣ opening was carved in stone. I didn't know experts carved some agreements on ice, especially one so specific. Over 2♣ the space is limited and so the information given should be very clear. Or so I thought. I've had problems myself when openeing or responding to 2♣, for example: - After a positive response, does opener's NT show a balanced hand or merely a lack of fit? - A 2NT response might be used by responder to show a good (8-11- HCP's) hand with at least 3 controls (A=2, K=1), but what are the continuations? And now you tell me that I can bypass the requirement of 2/3 high honours if I consider it right. The world has gone loco.
  8. You're very right. In the same link on the internet they have this: http://www.baliconvention.com/secure.php?id=secure So not only that smaller hotel has all that security, the two islands have all the security in the link and I suppose the BB, VC venue has more security than the smaller one.
  9. Someone in the bridgewinners thread copied and pasted a link found in the internet of the security in Nusa Dua: (I quote from bridgewinners) "The following safety & security measures at the Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali and Bali International Convention Centre relates to normal conditions. If threat levels are raised, the safety & security measures are commensurately increased. Additionally, safety & security levels are increased during high level conferences and as requested by conference/convention planners. 1. Security posts at entrances with boom gates, fully manned 24 hours a day with 3-4 security personnel. 2. All cars are checked with metal detectors including the interior and boot. 3. ID cards collected from drivers, car number recorded. 4. 66 CCTV cameras strategically installed within the properties. 5. 4 units of 32" monitors installed at Security Command Center with continuous security staff presence 24 hours a day. Capability for digital recording and playback up to 30 days back. 6. Patrol systems are installed allowing monitoring the time each area has been inspected. Security staff as well as the night manager are required to follow the patrol schedule, which is checked daily by management. 7. Employees cars have been issued parking passes. 8. 8 hand-held metal detectors and 2 walk-through gates are installed for personnel and package/baggage monitoring. 9. Car park near the lobby is temporally closed with all cars required to park away from the building. 10. 24 hour Emergency Response Team with 9 members per shift. 11. On site clinic with 24 hour doctor and nurse coverage and on site ambulance. In addition of the above, Nusa Dua, as five-star tourist enclave, benefits from its secluded location and is easier to control than crowded areas with limited street access, narrow roads, heavy traffic and overbuilt areas. The Nusa Dua area can be accessed through 4 main gates where traffic can be filtered. There are actually several layers of Security within the Nusa Dua area as follow: 1. Polsek Kuta Selatan with 108 officers. 2. Nusa Dua Tourist Police with 12 officers. 3. Benoa Marine Police with 17 Officers. 4. BTDC Security Department with 84 staff." Interesting to note it says they can raise the security if organizers of events deem it neccessary. I found that information very complete, but then again I know nothing about security.
  10. I was gonna double again, but if the pass is forcing count me in.
  11. 2001, 9/11 occurs, Bush unleashes war and several countries weren't sure it was a good idea to travel to a muslim country.
  12. 1♥-2♠* 3♦-4NT 2♠ shows 6+ solid or semi-solid spades, a one suited hand with 13+ HCP's. Opener will usually show support with a singleton honour or even 2 small spades. 3♦ is natural, so what should 4NT be? Diamonds KC? Quantitative? Wgo's the 'captain' of this sort of auction? Can the 'Captain' of an auction bid a quantitative question?
  13. I think he's limited to whatever 2♣ limited him to. What it shows is spades stopped very short hearts and 6♦ and 4♣.
  14. All red, MP's: ♠Kx ♥9xxx ♦9xx ♣AKT9 (1♥)-Pa-(2♥)-Pa (Pa)-3♣-(3♥)-Pa (Pa)-3♠-(Pa)-???
  15. South's rebid after 2♥ is a normal problem of MSC from the BW.
  16. ♠A, ♠ ruff, ♣AK, diamond to the table and spade ruffed. If I have won everything till this moment I'll ruff a club on the table and if this wins a spade ruffed with the 10 for the overtricks. Edit: That's probably better for 6. If I'm playing 4 I'll win the diamond, ♥A, ♥K and let the ♠J ride unless covered if hearts behave. If hearts are 4-1 I just need a ruff in each hand after cashing my winners.
  17. I'll start with 2♦. I think I'll repeat diamonds again or maybe bid 3NT if RHO has hearts or make a cuebid if he bids spades. If they jump to game without LHO showing signs of life, I might double.
  18. I'll only play low on the Jack.
  19. Butler, All red, you deal: ♠AQ ♥Q9x ♦KQJxxxx ♣x 1♦-1♠ 3♦-3♥ ? Recently I had witnessed the following: ♠KJTx ♥KJ9x ♦9xx ♣Tx 1♦-1♥ 3♦-3NT And 5 tricks were taken by the defense before we could make 9 (clubs got blocked). Someone offered 3♠ as a possible solution, to show spades and let partner in on the decision to play 3NT. Here a similar thing happened, how would you have played?
  20. After not defeating a contract because of the opening lead a wife asked the husband in a loud voice, 'But why didn't you lead a club?', and he answered a bit coolly: 'Because you were the one who led to the first trick'.
  21. If we're white vs red and 4♦ is a splinter and partner's double shows diamonds (at least 5), I'd take the sacrifice. At least 9 of our HCP's are in diamonds and we're only winning one (if there's one in dummy). By the way, when posting a diagram which includes the bidding you can select the vulnerability.
  22. I passed, but thought about it before. I asked someone else who also said it was an easy pass, maybe I should have asked about the 3NT bidder... Edit: I mean, I thought about it but passed thinking partner held 4 good spades or something like that. 4 Hearts was a better contract, though.
  23. Butler, Both Red: ♠x ♥AK98xx ♦AJx ♣Q9x (2♦*)-2♥-(2♠)-3NT (Pa)-??? 2♦ is Multi. Do you leave your partner to play there or bid 4♥?
  24. ♠Tx ♥Q9876 ♦KQT ♣AQ9 1♣-1♥ 2NT-3♣ 3♠-??? Partner holds 4 spades, not three hearts and a balanced 18-19 HCP's hand, how many NT's do you bid?
