  1. All white, Butler: ♠KQJx ♥AJx ♦Jxx ♣T9x (Pa)-1♠-(3♥)-??? 3♥ is weak.
  2. Both Red, Butler, you dealt: ♠KJTx ♥AQJTxxx ♦--- ♣J9 1♥-(Pa)-1♠-(2♦) ??? Which Major and what level? And an additional question:
  3. I'd blame North in the first hand. The hand is too good, a ten-card fit, the singleton, etc. I don't think an invitation is neccessary and I'm torn about which invitation should South accept or deny, A and AK, 4-card fit and a doubleton, maybe a heart try should not be accepted. I think the 2nd hand is harder. South has a maximum, why didn't s/he accept? A six-card suit headed by KJ and another King in partner's suit is an invitation?
  4. [hv=pc=n&w=sakj64h5dat876c92&e=sqt92h963d9cqj654&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=pp1sd3s(Pre-emptive)ppp]266|200[/hv] Is the East hand too strong for pre-emption at the 3-level? Is West hand so good as to get to game over a pre-empt?
  5. I'd say West. S/he could have reopened over 3♥ with 3♠.
  6. 4333 with 3 card support and 16-17 HCP's.
  7. MP's, partner deals, all red: ♠Kxxx ♥--- ♦Tx ♣KQ8xxxx 1♠-(Pa)-??? You play Bergen raises (3♥ is an undisclosed splinter).
  8. [hv=pc=n&s=s5h8542da76432ck5&w=sqt762hdk98cqj863&n=sj943hj973dqt5cat&e=sak8hakqt6djc9742&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=1c(16+)d(Reds%20or%20Blacks)r(7+%20HCP%27s)1s(Not%20Alerted)2hp2s(No%20agreement)3sp(East%20asks%20at%20this%20point%20if%20South%20has%20the%20blacks%20and%20North%20responds%20that%20he%20expects%20so.)pdp4hppp]399|300[/hv] When the lead is faced up and the screen raised dummy asks declarer whether he was alerted 1♠. Declarer went down of course, E-W didn't have good agreements (East didn't know what 2♠ was) but West supposed his 2♠ would be natural if East knew that 1♠ was the best suit from the worst combination. How would you rule?
  9. Teams, you're whited, they're red, you hold: ♠Axxx ♥Kxxx ♦--- ♣Jxxxx 1♣-(Pa)-1♥-(2♥) X-(3♣)-Pa-(3♦) X-(Pa)-??? Your screenmate (the guy bidding 3♣) did not alert anything.
  10. Well I heard some lady at the club speaking of how they were not issuing visas at one Israel Embassy. Then abother mentioned it was happening in all embassies for they were on a strike. I had not connected those two dots but with hrothgar's post...
  11. When Hearts are responder's suit the mini-splinter can only be done in Diamonds (or clubs if the opening bid was 1♦). When the suit is Spades both splinters can be shown, am I right?
  12. I was thinking of ♦A, ruff, three clubs and another ♦ ruffed, spades to the Ace and the last club, so far we have 7 tricks and no matter what west does we're getting two more in addition to the ♥A.
  13. [hv=pc=n&w=sq54ha732dakq8c97&e=sa963hjt64d4cakq3&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=p1cp1hp3hp4dp4np5hp?]266|200[/hv] Yes, if East passes 5 has more possibilities than 6. But is this sequence ok? Is there a way to stop at 4?
  14. I get there on the 2nd, hopefully.
  15. 3♠ seemed to me as the most exaggerated call. 4♠ seemed a close second but a singleton in their suit, the double fit, the honour in partner's suit and the good 5-card suit, I would have done the same. If North passes 3♣ South still has time to compete, probably with 3♦, in this case, or another double.
  16. Pa-(1♣)-1♦-(1♠) 1N-(Pa)-Pa-(2♠) Pa-(Pa)-???
  17. We're white, they're red, MP's: ♠Q6x ♥KT7xxx ♦KJ ♣Q3 You open second seat with 1♥ and partner shows 10-12 with 4-card support (via 3♦), what contract do you want to play? Why?
  18. [hv=pc=n&s=saqj42ha92dak4cq6&n=sk53hj5dqt65cak75&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=1dp1sp2c(%21)p2hd2sp4np5hp5np6cp7nppp]266|200[/hv] ♦7 was led. Opening leader has singleton spade, all follow suit to three rounds of clubs. ♦8 appears on the first trick from East and on the next honour from hand ♦2 and ♦3. West discards hearts on the spades. 23J of clubs from West, 49T from East.
  19. Butler, Both Red: ♠A5 ♥987xx ♦AQxxx ♣x Pa-(1♣)-??? I might have another question depending on what you choose.
  20. Butler, both red: ♠KT832 ♥KJT4 ♦AK ♣AK (Pa)-Pa-(1♣)-X (Pa)-1♥-(2♣)-??? What do you bid? What's your plan?
  21. All white, Mp's, you dealt: ♠AKQ ♥xx ♦AQ987 ♣xxx 1♦ or 1NT (15-17)?
  22. They're red, we're white, MP's: ♠Kx ♥Ax ♦KQxxx ♣7xxx 1♣-(X)-???
  23. All red, Mp's, third hand opens 1♣ and you hold: ♠987x ♥AQTx ♦QJ ♣KTx (Pa)-Pa-(1♣)-??? What do you do?
  24. When I was first presented the problem I just bid 5♣. But the hand has too many controls and a good fit so I was wondering what was the best route. Clearly 4♠ is the right call, the question then is, how should opener continue? ♠x ♥x ♦AKQJT ♣AQTxxx Six is on, but seven isn't. 4NT is KC? In what suit?
  25. Teams, all white: ♠QTxx ♥9x ♦Tx ♣AK97x 1♦-1♠ 3♦-???
