Would partner pass 4♠?
-
You gotta be careful with that comment and Vampyr. Anyway, Monday seems to be an interesting day at the BB. I think there are 8 teams fighting for 5 spots. It's gonna get interesting.
-
Imp pairs, White vs Red, you hold as East: ♠542 ♥K9 ♦T864 ♣J732 (1♠)-X-(4♠)-Pa (Pa)-X-(Pa)-? Is this too little to pass? Or little enough to pass? I think 4NT to ask for the minors is not a bad idea. 4♠ is to play but at this vulnerability it is not a terrible hand. I suppose there's a tendency to double here with less because of the colours, am I right? Anyway, doubler held: ♠ ♥Q875 ♦AKQ7 ♣A9854 Was the double too much? Opener redoubled. Would this make you bid if you didn't?

Bridge and the Stock market
Hanoi5 replied to Hanoi5's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I found it. And then some: http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~drand/dreber_2011_jru.pdf It was about dopamine, risk taking and bridge/stocks. I found some others on my way there: http://www.bridgeguys.com/pdf/Newspaper/APlanningApproachUM.pdf http://www.mini.pw.edu.pl/~mandziuk/PRACE/ICAISC06.pdf http://ephman.org/bridgeReview200908.pdf http://people.tamu.edu/~dscott/601/Musings%20Folder/1994%20JLR%20Bridge%20and%20Specialization.pdf http://carlo-hamalainen.net/stuff/Keren%20-%20Facing%20uncertainty%20in%20the%20game%20of%20bridge:%20a%20calibration%20study%20(1987).pdf http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/research/gameai/projects/CBR%20Bridge%20Jacob%20Bellamy-McIntyre.pdf http://www.ieee-cig.org/cig-2009/Proceedings/proceedings/papers/cig2009_017e.pdf Most of them have to do with computers and bridge. I also read there was one about how to analyse results from tournaments by an Asian guy in a Nordic country, but I had to pay in order to read it (or see it). Thanks to those who helped. -
All the Easts in the room doubled. All were women. But I was just resulting, as mikeh said only tomorrow or the day before can they make it. This was one of those days.

I forgot to mention it's mixed teams. Partner's weak hand is nothing out of the ordinary 6-10, 6 cards, etc.

Yes, I'm pretty sure. -
[hv=pc=n&e=sqtha9daj54cak643&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=2d(Multi)2s4h4spp?]133|200[/hv] This was the usual sequence at the Club. Your partner evidently holds a weak in hearts. Would you double, pass or bid one more for the road?
-
Yesterday I had this sequence: [hv=d=n&v=b&b=13&a=pp1hp1sp2cp2np3hp3nppp]133|100[/hv] South had opened with a very weak hand and 6-4 in the round suits. Of course 3♥ was meant to be passed but North took it as forward going. I think you can play both ways (bidding over an invitation accepts it or just tries to get to a better contract). I think in general it is better to pass an invitation if you won't accept it and treat any other bid over it as a description of the hand to try and get to a better contract. Can it be always applied? I suppose not, but would you take this sequence as an exception?

Bridge and the Stock market

When I say research I mean a Paper,Academic Paper, or something. As I said in my post they studied a correlation or something between the risks/mental processes taken in the market vs the ones in bridge. Or something like that. I couldn't find it in google. -
I remember reading some years ago about a research that had been made comparing the skills used for success at the stock market with the ones used in bidding (or bridge in general). Is it my paramnesia or does anyone have a link?
-
2♣. Why wouldn't I want to use a bid that shows what I have? And, I want to start showing my suits before someone bids 4♠.

[hv=pc=n&s=skq62hq92dkt542c7&n=sa853hat5d9ckt642&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=p1cp1sp2sp4sppp]266|200[/hv] They led a small heart to the J and my Queen. How would you play?
-
Both Red, Butler scoring. You hold on the second seat: ♠A8xx ♥6x ♦AK98 ♣865 2♥-?
-
[hv=pc=n&e=sat6532h2dcj96543&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=1n(%5B12-14%5D)2h(%5BHearts%20and%20a%20minor%5D)3s(Inviting)4hdp?]133|200[/hv] Was 3♠ too much? What should be done now?
-
Say it goes: [hv=d=e&v=b&b=10&a=1n(%5B12-14%5D)p2cd2h3c?]133|100[/hv] 4♥ would be a game hand but, what about 3♥? Is it better as an invitation or as competing? What about double? Couldn't it be like a maximal double? What if responder holds spades?
-
♠J and if nothing weird happens I'll go up with the K. If RHO holds AQx and I don't guess it the double finesse in diamonds is more likely to work, I suppose. But I'm counting on Q-Axx or Qx-Ax in spades.
-
How do I get an answer to the difficult ones?
-
Say the Director rules a result for one team/pair and another result for the other team/pair. When they are comparing their results/doing the results one team/pair finishes +17 while the other -23. So if this has to be translated to VP's it will look like: 15.75 and 2.89 (or 17 - 11 by the old 30-VP table). Is there a case of this happening in a team match in a world championship? Is this allowed? Can you link me to such a case?
-
Nobody pulled the double. 11 tricks in spades were available even though doubler was void. Sorry this hand was not interesting for you, where would you have put it?
-
[hv=pc=n&e=sakj8763hq74da63c&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=p1d1spp2c2s3cpp3s4cdp]133|200[/hv] Butler. You were planning on doing the 'little stair' (prompting them to double you by bidding one level at a time). However, partner's only sign of life is this double, what do you do?
-
Count me in the 3♠ camp. I'll try slam in a black suit (unless partner bids Diamonds naturally).
-
46% is good enough to bid a NV game. And 11 is not neccessarily normal, partner can have so much more...
-
I'd pass with OP's example and move on with 5♦ on this one.
