I'm bidding 5♣ unless I have Frances agreement.

Best way to show strong hand
Hanoi5 replied to phoenix214's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I think the double is fine since it will get us to hearts regularly. However, over 4♦ I'd cue-bid with 5♦, and bid 5NT over 5♥ or 5♠ and 6♠ over 6♣. I don't think you have to get to 7, but 6 looks very easy. -
Heart to the Q. I'm hoping to lead a diamond from hand and win my tricks via 5 diamond tricks if West has Ax in diamonds.
-
Very nice option to delete your vote. I first chose 4♠ because it's a trick less and I don't quite consider my hand as GF (would I pass partner's penalty double easily?). I have on a couple of times made the mistake of laying a dummy with an 8-card side suit after some competition in the bidding and it has always been wrong. 5♦ and hopefully partner can support.

We seem to have 2 defensive tricks while partner opened and got to game. Double just shows we are minimum with defensive values, partner can still pull it out, in which case 6 would seem like an option, although I wouldn't risk it.

Misinformation and damage - but adjusted score?
Hanoi5 replied to schulken's topic in Laws and Rulings
I think the only reason not to bid 2♥ with the East hand is the knowledge that South holds the Majors. Since East was kept from this knowledge there should be redress. West's pass is problematic though, maybe the Director should have given some kind of artificial adjusted score, like 60-40. -
[hv=pc=n&s=sh92dc&w=shqj3dc&n=shakt865dc&e=sh74dc]399|300[/hv] Declarer plays a small heart from hand to the J and Ace and then the Heart King in which she revokes. She plays a heart on the next trick and then notices the problem, calls the Director, who says the revoke has been established and to call him at the end; the declaring side won many tricks after the revoke so the Director gives one of those tricks to the defense, contract made instead of an overtrick. The declaring side says there is no revoke for declarer. Then they claim there was no damage, so no trick should have been taken away. Finally they said the Director has discretionary powers which would allow him to let this hand/revoke unpunished because of there was no damage. What can we tell them?

I'm sorry for the mistakes made. South had doubled 3♠ asking for a lead. The Director gave all the options to North who decided not to accept 3♥ and also explained correctly that if the bid was changed to anything other than 4♥ East would have to pass for the rest of the bid.

I made a mistake on the bidding. You had doubled 3♠ asking for a lead.

All white, MP's: ♠Qx ♥J6xxx ♦Jx ♣96xx 1♠-(2♥)-Pa-(3♦) Pa-(3♠)-Pa-(4♥) Pa-(Pa)-?

[hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1s2hp3dp3sx4h(West%20tried%20to%20bid%203%21h%20but%20had%20to%20settle%20for%204%20when%20the%20Director%20was%20called%20to%20tha%20table)ppdpp5dxppp]460|200[/hv] West had bid 3♥ tried to change it to 4, the director was called he allowed the change to 4♥ without penalty. 5♦ was made, so South called the Director again and said that East action was influenced by West's insufficient bid. How would you rule?

Declarer tables the hand and says 'My hand is good'. A defender says, 'No way, I have an ace of one of your suits' and calls the Director. The defender holds the aforementioned ace but also cashable AK in a side suit (No Trump was being played). Director says 'All right you lose three tricks and the rest is yours'. Dummy says 'You can't make my partner play the club first! She'd play the red ones and only lose the last trick!' (But that is nowhere near what Declarer had said...) 'Where in the law does it say that?'

Opening 2 Diamonds
Hanoi5 replied to jgillispie's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I like to play Multi/17+ 4441. -
Although ♠A can do the trick, any card that says you don't want a spade should be clear.

♠xx ♥Ax ♦AQTxxxx ♣J8 Partner deals and red vs white opens 1NT. RHO bids 2♣ which shows clubs and another, you double (Stayman, you don't know what else to do), partner bids 2♥ and RHO bids 2♠. You bid 3♦ and partner replies 3NT and RHO once again enters the bidding, this time with 4♣, what's your call? How do you handle this situation?

♠Q9xxx ♥7xxx ♦A ♣AKQ Mp's, All red (1♦)-Pa-(Pa)-1♠ (X)-2♠-(Pa)-3♥ (Pa)-3♠-(Pa)-? Would you bid game then or now?

Are the caps yours? That would be offensive in my opinion...

Risk Taking and Gender: The Case of Bridge
Hanoi5 replied to tenoblak's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I agree with most of what has been said. The sample is too small and it hasn't even been studied in the right way. Risk is not only getting to a higher level. -
♠AK ♥AK ♦AK ♣AKxxxxx Each of South, East and West hold 7-card suits.
