  1. I'd say AI. I was wondering (even though it's a nice story and everything) how helpful nige1 post is. But I also know that my post is even worse for pointing it out. But I'm sort of bitter these days.
  2. #2 sounds a little like throwing the cards at your partner after he blows a hand.
  3. All Red, imp's: ♠AKQ96 ♥9762 ♦97 ♣JT [hv=d=w&v=b&b=4&a=pp3dpp?]133|100[/hv]
  4. I'm more interested in the logical alternatives. 3♣/2♠ I thought of, but isn't pass a possibility? This of course is a hesitation problem as partner took some time before passing 2♥... 2♠ is for newbies though, partner is short in hearts so we're gonna be ruffing with the long hand...
  5. At these colours I'd rather try for a game of our own instead of trying to get them down 4 at the 2-level. Unless that double shows both Majors I think I'm fine.
  6. [hv=pc=n&e=sktxh98xxdk8ckjxx&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=pp1dp1hdr(Supp)2c2hpp?]133|200[/hv] It's MP's, do you compete? Is pass an option at this colours?
  7. Even though a negative double by South on the first round seems to be the best approach I wonder what hand was North expecting his partner to hold for 2♠ to go down. South rates to have a singleton spade and not 3 hearts but two is very likely.
  8. What about playing in a real bridge club? What about inviting some friends over and play some rubber bridge? If you want to be antisocial or have no friends or clubs available, you can always have a bridge problems book. Or just subscribe to the Bridge World and read!
  9. I need the heart ten for a 1♥ overcall.
  10. I need the heart ten for a 1♥ overcall.
  11. It is certainly not a good slam. Less than 50%, by the way. I'm sure anyone getting to it would have to do it by just jumping to 6 after, for example, receiving support from partner.
  12. When I get to game on my own and dummy comes down with a terrible hand I say: "And you didn't bid six with that?"
  13. Maybe for the next Olympic Games we can have Usain Bolt running on a treadmill in Jamaica while his opponents will also run on treadmills in their own country. Of course there'll be an IOC member checking everything in each country but that way nobody would move. Suppose some player in NYC finds himself in a blackout. Well, he loses the match. Another player loses his internet connection. Bye, bye. Better still, as the player was losing the match someone will say he 'produced' the condition, thus blaming him/her for cheating. The possibilities are endless. I think f2f bridge and online/electronic bridge are two different things. Table feel is a important part of the game I would say. Among other things.
  14. I hope partner moves over my 2♠ with the approppriate hand for game. So that would be the invitation for me.
  15. [hv=d=w&v=n&b=12&a=pp1s2d3s4d4s5dd]133|100[/hv] 3♠ being a pre-empt, how do you feel about the double? What could it show? Say West had: ♠9xxx ♥x ♦QJTx ♣Qxxx Do you agree with the bidding? Wouldn't it be better to give a simple raise? ♠AKJxxx ♥KQJTx ♦x ♣x Would you pass partner's double? Would it be different if you were playing imp's or mp's?
  16. I think supporting with 3 cards is an exception rather than a rule. I use it when I can't bid the other Major, or it looks better than rebidding NT or repeating your original suit. I do have a gadget for responder to ask how the support was.
  17. This was it: [hv=d=s&v=0&b=11&a=pp1dd1h?]133|100[/hv]
  18. Today, in this sequence: [hv=d=s&v=0&b=11&a=pp1dx1h?]133|100[/hv] Partner held: [hv=pc=n&w=sqt9843hdt974cq83]133|200[/hv] Is 3♠ called for? What would a double jump mean? What if South had passed? What if you're not a passed-hand?
  19. =============================== BOARD 2 NS EW NS+ NS- MP MP =============================== 1 15 -490 9 13 8 28 -490 9 13 9 17 -990 0 22 10 19 -490 9 13 11 21 -460 15 7 12 23 -800 2 20 13 25 -120 22 0 14 27 -420 19 3 20 4 -420 19 3 22 5 -460 15 7 24 6 -500 4 18 26 7 -490 9 13 =============================== =============================== =============================== It was board N° 2. 3NT +3 would be a little better for N/S. I think it would be impossible to discern the meaning of double right now. Only one pair got to the slam, two pairs played in 2 Spades doubled (the other one went one down too many).
  20. East is an old 'pro', probably the one pro who charges less for classes in our club. She doesn't have great agreements with her partners. She uses a hearing aid and hates to have the Director called to her table. She REALLY hates it. She usually plays the dummy for her partner and has even been seen NOT to accept a play by her partner as dummy. West has no idea of the game. Her double could be more penalty than take-out. East apparently said it was a support double (!) but then somebody told her it couldn't be that and she didn't know what to say. Several players were polled and they agreed to pass the double without the hesitation, bidding-box maneuvering and comment by West. I'm perfectly aware that East-West committed a 'crime' but why reward N/S for their wild action? (I do consider it a wild action at these colours and being MP's).
  21. So you'll punish E/W and reward N/S for their reckless action?
  22. [hv=d=e&v=n&b=2&a=pp1cp1h2sdppp]133|100[/hv] West opened the bidding and over the pre-emptive jump played a little with her bidding box, taking the double out, putting it in, etc. She finally grabbed the double and said 'Yes, yes I'm gonna double'. West apparently passed without even looking at her cards. A poll with players who held East's cards said they'd pass the double, too. You probably want to have a look at the deal, so: [hv=pc=n&s=sqt9873hkdjt843c5&w=sk542haq9dkckqjt3&n=sjh86542d965ca976&e=sa6hjt73daq72c842&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=pp1cp1h2s(Weak)d(West%20played%20with%20her%20bidding%20box%20and%20finally%20said%20%20%27Yes%2C%20I%27m%20gonna%20double%27)ppp]399|300[/hv] I proposed to leave the result (-500, 75% for E/W and 25% for N/S) and punish E/W for their breach of properties with a top (that will get them to the last place, not that anyone cares). How would you rule?
  23. Hindsight is always 20/20 but I'd blame North as I think it's easier for him/her to enter the bidding than for South.
  24. So, you're saying Putin got Yanukovich out of his post so that a turmoil was created in the country of Ukrania and he can annex Crimea to Russia? The western response to this conflict will probably be the same as to what happened in Georgia some years ago...
