  2. 1♣-1♦ 2NT-3♦ I like to play that all bids over 2NT are forcing, so this only shows a 6-card suit. Of course, it shouldn't be done on a normal hand that will gladly play 3NT but more on a hand that has 'a problem'. Opener would then decide whether to go on with 3NT, show his best Major (if he shows spades the final contract might be 4♠) or support diamonds and try for slam or just for 5♦.
  3. All hands are imp's: Red vs White: ♠xx ♥A8xxx ♦Axxx ♣QT 1♣-1♥ 2NT-3♣* (Checkback) 3♥-??? Partner has 18-19 balanced with 4♥ White vs Red: ♠KQT96 ♥AKxx ♦ATx ♣Q 1♠-3♣* (At least 4 spades and 7-9 HCP) ???
  4. ♠A987 ♥xxx ♦K7x ♣K9x Red vs White your partner opens with a weak 2 in spades and they get to 4♥: 2♦-(Pa)-2♥-(3♥) 3♠-(4♥)-???
  5. You hold: ♠--- ♥QJT98x ♦AKTxxx ♣x Your partner in second seat opens 2♦ which is either: - Weak 2 in spades - Weak 2 in hearts - Strong and balanced 22-23 or 26-27 Three questions: 1- What do you guess your partner has? 2- What do you bid: 2♥ Pass or correct (also with hearts, but you have to bid them again over the expected 2♠) 2♠ Pass or correct (usually with good heart support and inviting to game) 2NT Asks partner about his hand 3♦ Natural and forcing 4♥ To play 3-
  6. So, if declarer is 2722 you let him make? Or maybe you mean partner would have led ♦A and then the spade if it was doubleton (and after seeing dummy he'd probably don't do that with a doubleton)?
  7. What should responder do over 3NT?: ♠xx ♥J ♦KT9x ♣AKxxxx

  9. Mp's, red: ♠Axx ♥AKQTxx ♦QJx ♣Q 1♥-1NT ??? Would you show the solid suit and game strength, invite in hearts or show a GF hand that wants to play in hearts (by means of an artificial new suit or forcing bid)? Incidentally, how do you show each of those?

I learnt 3,1416 and that was it.
  11. ♠K9xxx ♥xxxx ♦AQx ♣x This was partner's hand. No splinter. I suppose over 4♣ it is easier to get to slam.
  12. Would this be what they call 'interracial'?
  13. 3♦. There might not be a club fit.
  14. Should the double be 100% clear? Is it because it is MP's? If we double and partner bids hearts (or clubs) what are we to do? I chose 3♠ but I'd pass over 4♦ (isn't partner's double for penalty over 4♦?)
  15. [hv=pc=n&s=st2hkq8743dq4cqj9&n=sq653hajt6dj5ca86&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=1c1d1h2d2h3d4h5ddppp]266|200[/hv] How can these situations be clarified? How can North know south's jump to game is based on a great fit and not high cards? By passing? How can a forcing pass situation be set up?
  16. Imp pairs, R vs W: ♠AT6xx ♥Ax ♦K ♣A8xxx Pa-(Pa)-1♠-(2♥) 3♥-(Pa)-??? Is 4♣ free? Should you just bid 4♠ and not dream about slam?
  17. If you bid 4♠, wouldn't partner believe hearts to be trumps? If that is a possibility the 6♦, if not then why not 4♠?
  18. 1♠-3♣ 3♦-4♣ 4NT-5♦ 5♠
  19. I have recently been checking and answering polls in another bridge site (BW) and I came to the conclusion that they are underbidders. Am I right? Am I biassd?
  20. I scan the problems and send them to my students who in turn have to give their answers through mail. I scanned January 2008 issue problems (which are the ones dealt with in February) but when I went to check the February issue was missing. Two people sent me scans and I'm very grateful for it. I believe TBW MSC is the best in its class. I also have a lot of IPBM issues which ran the McCallan Club, but I don't think it is as good.
  21. Hi, I apparently lost my 02-08 issue of The Bridge World, and I am in dire need of the results to the Masters Solvers' Club problems. Can anyone send me the scans of those pages? Thanks in advance.
