  1. Is X forcing? I assume 2D is not? Assume 2H is not? 2S is specified not! 3C is not? Is 2NT a D-raise invite+? Is 3S fit bid? Awful to not have a 2-bid description cheaply as that must be common: I have this suit and D-fit. Is this a passed hand structure?
  2. Is 5D pass/5H? Or lead-direct? Or Q-bid? That puts partner into the picture if 5S. If 4NT as pick minor, what is 5D over 5C? Q-bid on to 5H/6C? A&E should have these agreements. I'm out since I already used X as "stuff" but 2 losers in their suit.
  3. If I'm losing to CQ, I need D10 onside. That puts many cards in lefty. Run C9.
  4. Agree andy-h. If partner feels they are trying to snooker us, he might opening lead CA. So I try for 2xS.
  5. Alter your system to have a second tier of major openings. Eg 1C:4+H, 8-12 and 1H: 4+H, 13-16. Coagulate the bal and minor hands as they face similar decision: 3NT on tricks + stops or not.
  6. You farts are the main joy I have. Does that inflate y'all?
  7. Why didn't y'all get to 6NT? Just to avoid this brainbuster. There I can play some discovery that will tell me something. Agree Valardent line b.
  8. I bite. DQAK dis Hx. CAKQ dis H. Run SJ.
  9. 6H. Partner, if he's worth his salt, Has H:J and C:Q. Even S:J
  10. DA. To SK. How many S-ruffs do Ineed?
  11. Is partner's S:Axx good enough stop? I have C:Qxx for his suit. I expect he has D:Axx for mine. He didn't double to suggest a defensive hand. Me too.
  12. I want my partner trusting no brain-busting flyer on predictable hands. 4th best H; 4th best C.
  13. Wa-a-ay too quick to support double with 6x solid clubs. Show big suit then support with H:xxx. Now I just gotta repeat "I have an opener".
  14. South is closer to pass/pull than double. 4-support AND a 4-honor side 5-suit AND a C-single AND expect partner has S-single. His defense is SQ + DAK -- expectable for an opening bid. If no force-pass established (my partnership does), I try 5H. Maybe key-ask then 5H to get slam warned off.
  15. CA. Hope partner can play another to stop crossruff. Maybe futile when dummy hits, but I have the lead still.
  16. Which hands go 2H immediately over 1S? GF 5+H? Which hands go 1NT then 2H over 1S? Invite 5xH? Which hands go immediate 3H over 1S? Invite 6+H? Or preempt the other major by bidding the other major -- why preemptive 3H over 1S is my point. Those answers leave the hands that 1NT then 3H over 1S.
  17. Partner free bids 1S and I'm fitting S:AK and single in opponents' hearts. I sure want to tell partner offense, so 4S.
  18. I'm trying DA and another. Unless dummy shows me trump switch vital. I think DA is most likely to maximize the set. Partner surely has 0-2xD. If 0-1, his little hearts (2xH-ruffs if CA C-out after 1st H-ruff) ruff DKQ.
  19. Is this auction sufficiently informative to choose Dx to DQ OR DA DQ ruffing finesse? At least high confidence to get that right? I say YUP. 7S.
  20. Would a 5H response mean pick a red slam? 4C, then 5H shows H-solid? DJ not falling = not D:3-3, nor D:Jx-4. Not awful slam. And deciding DJ was crucial after 3NT? Can you find it is missing? Do you have a "warning" -- void in support bid? What was available before "this choice was disastrous".
  21. You are thinking this backwards. 2NT with an unpassed partner has all the upside good hands(near/full openers =slammy) to counter the busts. With a passed partner you are mainly keeping the downside cases. Use 2NT in 3-,4-seat for special cases. I use 2S, 2NT as namyats: solid/near solid with a void. Alert partner 1xA may be slammy. Then namyats 4m has no void -- A-ask worthwhile.
  22. How did partner's hand improve? Not a 2H:GF 2/1, but now a jump 3H? He always intended to support spades (3-support limit) and likes C-fit with S-fit enough to advance Q 3H (or splinter 3H). 3S as planned to show the good suit.
  23. Double. Especially as partner cannot double without a conventional meaning: supportX. My problem comes when/if partner rejects penalties. How can I get my 16 prime with solid hearts shown?
  24. Barmar, A rule that "fixes" our E-W pair that was not at the table of the revoke. Not cardplay but rule infraction ruins the hand-to-hand comparison. Thus the matchpoints do not reflect how many out pair beat/tied. The infraction should punish N-S in the overall. No play may be the adjusted this hand to be fair to other N-S/E-W.
