  1. We play a lot of optionnal double and we are tired of explaining what they mean. We now say "semi-penality" and curiously people accept that and dont ask questions.
  2. Partner most likely hand is probably a 4153 wich is great shape for us (depending what would he open with 4144). Not making a slam try is a clear mistake.
  3. Playing big club i would open 3C because we have a way to show weaker preempt with 2Nt. Playing natural i would bid 4C. Being 8 imps ahead with 7 board isnt significant enough to change my 4C. 5C red is too much for me.
  4. 2Nt, In pairs i see no reason to force to game. If partner pass we are in the best spot.
  5. 2Nt because i feel that 3H might go down.
  6. I would have bid 5Nt on the first bid. Even if partner has xx in both black 6C should be the same then 6S. My 2nd call is 6S.
  7. optionnal. The opener should only pull with 2D and 3/4S. With xxx in diamonds a minimum hand and 4S i would also pull.
  8. For me its attitude first and pref when its obvious to switch. So low H = continue H no tolerance for switch. Middle H = clubs and high H for diamonds. Under these condition The blame goes to east.
  9. clear pass for me. 3Nt should show at least 1.5 stoppers in diamond and probably 2 most of the time. Its possible that 5C or 6C is better then 3nt but its also possible that 3Nt is the last plus. I much prefer 2H than a direct 3C. Kx KTx K9xx AKxx Easy 3D bid. 4S 4H 5C and 6C might easily be better then 3Nt so why not temporize ?
  10. There is a lot of stealing going on with 14-16 Nt, with weak responses after 1M opening or after 1C opening. I think when players are going to defend with a good ratio of constructive bids/destructive bids its going to be ok but right now they are reaping profits.
  11. Easy 3Nt for me. 3S is almost forcing (we are in imps) and my hand is non minimum, partner suit is more likely to be 1 loser or no loser then 2 loser. 3S with AJ9xxx is atrocious.
  12. I like to play that 1C---1H 1S---1Nt 2H = minimum 4315,4306 2S = minimum 5??6,5??7 2Nt = non-forcing 2D to show a non minimum H raise or 56 with blacks or GF hands with no clear rebids. This is of course a particular agreement. Response over 2D are Pass or correct style.
  13. In standard its showing 19+ and is forcing. Its another reason why i prefer to play heavy 1Nt overcall (good 16 to 19) so for me 2Nt as showing 15-bad 16 make sense.
  14. Agree 100% You are forced to bid. So if you want to differentiate hands with extras you need a waiting bid somewhere to show the minimum hands. On this sequence 3C to show a minimum hand is simply unplayable.
  15. 2Nt is atrocious. Hiding a side suit of AKtxx is beyond salvation. 1S---2D 2H---2S (if GF) then its going to be easy to stop in 4S. Otherwise witn serious 3Nt 1S---2D 2H---3S 4C (cue but minimum)-----4D (worth another try) 4H----------4S (bad trumps or minimum slam aspirations) pass With no serious 3Nt 1S-----2D 2H-----3S 4D (here i prefer to cue in partner suit instead of 4C on a K) ----4H 4S---- 4Nt etc... 1S----2D 2H----3S 4S----pass...
  16. K9 AJ9xxxx KQ QT Kind of tough to make a rebid with this 1 :P I play that 1H---1S 2H (show a minimum) and that 1H---1S 2m (could be 6H+3m 15-16) On this hand however rebidding a 3 card minor isnt possible and the hand is slightly too good to rebid 2H so 3H is reasonnable. The extra trump should make 3H safe enough. After 3S bid however you are really happy to bid 3Nt. Trying to give your best answer at all time and avoid resulting is the best way to improve at bridge even if partner bidding is sometimes off mark. Just to know would a 2H rebid by partner show a minimum hand ?
  17. What i like to play is from Romex. 3C---3D is asking for a 3 card Major. So that 3C---3M show at least a 6 cards suit. On that hand ill bid 3D if partner bid 3Nt ill bid 4S showing a good 5card ♠ suit with tolerance for clubs.
  18. 3S is easy, but over 4C or 4D the only bid is 4H. Over 3Nt ill pass. 4C by you is a cue not a suit. I prefer 4H to pass. Those who cant stand raising with a void because they sometimes rebid 3H with AJ9xxx wich IMO is atrocious.
  19. At MP and with today preempt its a clear pass.
  20. I disagree with that statement. Its not because its very unlikely that i hold a 11 card suit that i cannot bid it when i have one. I dont remember having a 11 card suit in my life, but if i have one at least I can say that its likely to be headed by AK. AK 11th or 10th with a KQx outside look like a 6C opening for me. As for hand 2. --- --- AKQJx QT9xxxxx is my idea of a 6C bid. Bidding 6C (RED) purely as preempt with no hope of making it make no sense.
  21. 4C leaping michaels style. That way the day i bid S over H im showing 4S or a cue.
  22. about hand 2. Yes unless i have a double stopper in the 4th suit i dont see why i wouldnt raise with Kxxx. 3H should show half a stopper.
  23. Agree being able to play 2C is important.
  24. I dont believe the number of passer for hand 2. Show me a hand where you would bid 6C red vs red when your partner promise only 2 clubs
  25. I dont really think 3Nt & 4C are serious options. Over a 3S preempt 3nt without a stop is possible but over 3H i rarely like it.
