  1. I pass. We are a passed hand. So we have plenty of ways to show a fit. Even a direct 4H should show a decent hand (vul vs not), so for me 3S is a good GF raise with spades shortness (unless you have very specific requirement about PHJSF).
  2. Agree. I wont say easy but its a clear pass for me. Partner may easily have xxx in a minor wich make 5 too high.
  3. Doubling 6D is terrible. Tx is great support when partner is able to bid 5H all by himself. With a so-so hand partner would probably blasted rightaway to 4H so he has the goodies when he bid 2H followed by 5H. The 2 black aces and a possible running suit are more then enough to make a forcing pass.
  4. Agree that some agreement must be used (at the price of accuracy for slam bidding) especially when the overcall is LHO of the opener. AJxxx vs Kxx is often 2 trumps loser and 3 nt is cold because openener has a 5 card minor.
  5. My 2C overcall over 1D tend to be a bit more agressive so i have extras 4H.
  6. X and lead a S. If you want to win with a student you have to X more then usual.
  7. 4 Nt wich show both red with better D (cannot be slammish since ive passed on 1C. Im a bit afraid partner got a 15+ balanced.
  8. I have a hard time rebidding 1Nt with a stiff and in a natural setup i have a hard time rebidding 2C with 5. So i open 1D with 45 fairly often. I rarely bid 1S with 3.
  9. Ive only done manually 52 deal so far wich is not enough to post any numbers and barely enought to make speculations. What im getting is similar to Frances. My specualtions are a club and diamond seldom work. H and S are about the same. M and D often blow a trick. In My 50 deal sample a C lead blow a trick only once wich is why lower then i would expect. The distribution of clubs look like 2=2 3= 8 4= 17 5=11 6 =12 7=2 So my gut feeling is that in MP leading the stiff clubs is the best lead by a mile. The condition ive are about the same for declarer excepted that ive accept some of the 17 with 5 card suit hands. For dummy ive put 7pts & + with 4M possible and rejected a lot of hand where 7-8 hcp isnt enough (but keept all the AKxxxx) and discarded everyhand where i would go throught stayman. I was Imps agressive the worst hand ive blasted to game was Q9x,QJx,xx, KTxxx. (and 3 nt has no play at all on any lead) In restrospect ive should have put a limit to north hand because im getting too many hands where 3nt is cold. So my sample where a specific M lead is necessary to beat the contract is way to small to check wich M will turn out best. Can we put lin files of many deals on the forum ? if yes what is the limit on the numbers of deals ?
  10. If you play leaping michael. The setup i suggest is 5m can be a bit streched. Cue followed by 5m natural but sound and invite to 6. cue followed by 6m natural but invite to 7 direct 5 nt both m with better C (64 or 65) cue followed by 5nt both m with better D. 4nt followed by a raise both m equal lenght desire to play 6. All the maj + m hand are in 4m. X and correct tend to suggest 64. If you dont play nlm i strongly suggest you take a look at it. being forced to play 5m instead of 4m is a small price to pay imho.
  11. Great argument. This really show why your bridge is better then mine. ;) Anyway this is more mental masturbation then anything because im never leading clubs on that deal. Ill definitively want to make a sim to check if my S lead is better then a H lead. Because they think i want to establish a trick and use the A of S as a side entry. Where i think this reasonnement is a bit off , is that if the K of H is badly placed (and partner doesnt do magic) we are unlikely to put this contract down anyway so might as well assume declarer got the A of H and see our K of H as an entry. So at the end you get Ajxx = more ambitious lead then (A)txx.
  12. Not necessarely play you for short club but he will finesse partner more often then is going to finesse you. 1- If your lead may suggest a 5+ card suit 2- If they got 7H. 3- Its more likely that he will want to keep RHO off lead then LHO. 4- if he can get a more complete count of the hand by playing 3 or 4 round of diamonds. Some entry problem might induce declarer to finesse on your side. But the odds favor that for clubs he will finesse RHO.
  13. I play NLM so for me a cue bid followed by 6C describe this hand nicely.
  14. If 2D is constructive non-forcing its a clear pass for me. LHO probably has an opening hand or an overcall with AQT of spades so we are going nowhere. If 2D can be very weak then its a tough problem but id still pass maybe partner can reopen.
  15. 1- Because partner is poor he rate to have no pts in clubs. 2- If hes A or K and no spot it cost nothing. If he got Qxxx then declarer would probably have finesse him anyway (unless i falsecard my H or S lead). If hes got QJxx it cost nothing. (think about it and you will see) If K or Q with a spot it might not cost at all and sometimes declarer will play me for having 4 clubs. Q9xx---AJ8x partner KTxx is safe anyway. Q9xx----AK8x partner JTxx is safe. By far the most likely case where its blow a trick is when Qxx but even with this declarer might still finesse him to keep him off lead. Not only a club lead is unlikely to cost a trick but when you put thing in context by comparing a club lead VS the other lead its obvious to me that a club lead is very safe and very passive.
  16. Easy pass for me. For the 3C partner should at least show a non-minimum hand and for the 2nd X he should have at least defensive tricks. He cannot be 4??6 or ??46 because he would have overcall 1D or 1S on round 1 or 2S/2nt on round 2.
  17. A club lead is unlikely to give away a trick, is very unlikely to develop a trick and its the least agressive lead i can make. As for giving up the layout of the hand this comment is also a joke. 95% of the time declarer best suit is going to be clubs. At trick 2 he will play club himself and notice the bad break probably at trcik 3. You have to be very naive (or play against very weak opponents) to hope that declarer will take finesses the wrong way.
  18. Just that if i would have done a sim on this hand it would have been between X and 3S not between X and pass.
  19. I think i can make a guess about why double dummy a club might be better. Double dummy the contract is almsot cold. So a passive lead might be better just for the overtricks. There are time when 3nt is not there because dummy has a useless club suit and few entries and a club is the only passive lead. But since the goal is to put 3Nt down a club lead make little sense. Left to his own device and assuming partner got nothing declarer will make 4 or 5 clubs 2D + 2H + 1 or 2S. If we give the chance to declarer to establish trick everywhere he wont fail no matter what card partner got. If partner got nothing in H and nothing in S no matter what we lead declarer is heavy favorite to make 3nt. So i think we have to assume that partner got something in a major. A heart lead pretty much hope for 3H + 1S and a slow trcik (Q of D or J of S) but declarer will finesse us because we are short in clubs. A spades lead work when partner has the K and we make 4s + 1H or might work when partner got the TS and a card elsewhere. (declarer KQx is spades or Hx on dummy)
  20. PS just for those who dont know They dont have the same frequency Kx ---Jx is twice as likely then KJ ---xb this is because there is Kx ----Jb and Kb----Jx
  21. The first and formemost is to make an assement of the "field". In the club where im director. 90+% are going to be in slam. Nobody will be in 7. at least 30% will be in 6Nt. so a in reasonnable field. 1 in game. 3 in 6Nt. 6 in 6S. We play low S and see a x. So the possible lines are 1- A & low to the Q 2 -low to Q then A 3 -low to T and finesse the Q 4 - low to Q the low to T 5 - Low to T then A KJxb---- void = 6,6,7,6,7 KJx------b= 6,6,7,6,7 Kxb-----J= 6,7,6,7,5 Kx------Jb= 6,7,6,7,6 Jbx-----K= 7,5,6,6,6 Jx-----Kb =6,6,6,6,6 xb-----KJ =6,6,5,5,6 After that its easy to see what is better according to field and to possible contract at the other tables.
  22. At imps i think you have to force here. Give partner a M ace the K of D and a club stopper and you want to be in 3Nt. I see many complete minimum that make game and partner will pass 3D. Partner will not like his hand with Kxxxxx or Qxxxxx but game will be good. So clear 2S for me.
