  1. I would rebid 2♥. 3♥ is close. There is no other choice.
  2. 1♠. 2♥ next round if available.
  3. For the first hand, I wouldn't pass after my pd overcalled 2♦. I would overcall 2♥. For the second hand, South took 90% of the blame, if not 100%.
  4. I bid 2D at first round. After pd's 3C, I bid 3S. pass pd's voluntary 3C? No way! We sure have a game, and even slam is possible.
  5. I think major suits are over-emphasized these days. On other threads of 2/1 topic, when we talk about negative dbl, some players tend to ignore minors. I don't see any problems here to simply over-call 2♣. If pd has some strength and has game interest, we can find ♠ fit later.
  6. My concept (or modification) of negative dbl is to show unbid suit(s) when NFB is not available. If I bid a new suit (minor) after dbl, it denies the unbid (other) major. I agree that it show not a hand of clubs and a fit for diamonds. That's why I guessed Flame hand of exactly 3 ♦s. My version of negative dbl is similar to 1NT without intervention: 1♠ - 1NT 2♥ - 3♣ shows a hand of 10 (or 11) hcp or less with real ♣ suit. So does 1♠ - (2♦) - DBL 2♥ - 3♣. The only difference is that 1NT could be 6 or 5 hcp, while DBL usually shows 8 to 11.
  7. Without NFB, and negative dbls can only show majors, I found the logic are beyond my comprehension. Do we have 4 suits or have two majors only? On the other thread, who to blame (2), while we had 5♦, I was told I should pass. On this hand, Flame was told to keep quiet while they had slam. Bridge became weird...
  8. I was very close. From the bidding, pd couldn't have 4 ♥s, so he must have 4+ ♦s. (1♦ opening with 3♦s only when 4=4=3=2). When you have 4+ ♦s, directly bid 6♦, don't make pd guess.
  9. Agree. With the agreement of E-W, West didn't have much choice but 3NT.
  10. 5NT: pick a slam. If pd bid 6D, I would correct it to 6H.
  11. Agree. Without NFB, 3C should not forcing. That is another point. Without a strong hand and 4-card ♥ and 5+ card ♣, I would bid 2♣ first and 2/3♥ (if available) on next turn.
  12. I was South. #1. I can't hardly image a hand from North that has to bid 2S with 2-small support. 90% of the times in the sequence, North should have 3-card support or at least 2 with an honor (Qx). The only distribution for that possibility that North had to bid 2S would be 2362. Even if so, South's bid of 4♠ was still reasonable because North denies stopper(s) in clubs (else why not 2NT?), and should have good cards in ♥ (else North could rebid 3♦). To bid 3♣ to ask help didn't sound right to me. #2. As I wrote in another post here, I don't think South's hand was qualified for direct 2♦ over call without NFB. After my lho raised to 2♥ and my pd's free bid of 2♠, I could tell that we had the strength close to game and yet opp's bid to 2H. My pd had to be short in ♥, most likely singleton. If he didn't have 6-card of ♣, then he should have (most likely) 3-card of ♦. Idealy, I need 6th ♦ for me to bid 3♦ over 2♠, I believe my 3♦ was still very reasonable. Coincidentally or not, we had indead good chance to make 5♦ (♠Q was with my lho). #3. I didn't bother to ask why my pd would dbl 4♠. Maybe I should pass, maybe I should bid 5♥. After all the strange bids, I lost my judgement. I didn't know what was going on. We didn't have discussion about this kind of dbl. But I figured that the dbl must be based on a powerful hand. With only good trumps, I wouldn't dbl in this situation. Even if it was vulnerable (both sides), 4S could still be preemptive. So I chose to bid 4N, intended to "corrected" to 5♦ if my pd bid 5♣.
  13. If you use 6 Aces (keycards) blackwood, you need to establish 2-suit fit first: 1♠-2♥ 3♥-3♠ 4NT This 4NT is 6-keycards blackwood. As how to answer it, you may discuss with your pd.
  14. If playing NFB then 2clubs is not forcing, hence the name NEGATIVE. Agree. Direct 2C is not forcing, if play NFB. 3C after dbl is forcing.
  15. Hmmm, this is more difficult. I would probably pass, dbl if in desperate.
  16. Why do I need to ruff anything? 6♠ plus 4 side winners are possible. I would bid 2NT (Ogust).
  17. There are paradox on the systems (2/1, sayc, etc). Say you got a hand xx Qxx, xxx, AQJxxx, and your pd opens 1S, you respond 1N, right? and your pd rebid 2D, what do you do now? Wouldn't you bid 3C? So you were not strong enough for 2C, how could you bid 3C now? huh? In my style, when not playing nfb, direct 2-level overcall is equivalent (or very close to) 2/1 response without interference. Thus, dbl and then bid a suit later shows a WEAKER hand. Besides, the South hand has 9 (effective) hcp only. He inferred that his pd's ♥ was short, and had some kind of ♦ support, from opp's (and pd's) bidding.
