You ask your questions in a strange way... anyway it depend on many things, probebly would get there without interference since we have 28 hcp + enough shape to make slam. the hands here fit badly and still slam is fine, meaning if nornth know about 10 hcp in south he should get to slam. About the play, nothing special here , if you lose a club ur 1 down if u dont u makes. It depend on the bidding, the normal play is the K (not because the Q is always after the K but because it works vs 4-0) and then the A.
-
Imo the pass is forcing, mainly because of west's 3sp bid which is the bst indicate that the opponents are weak here. About the 4d, its a FNJ bid (not natural). The meaning of this FNJ is probebly having a real diamond suit and not just for the lead, but im not sure about it.

What about this hand ? is this a good slam ?
-
My partner hold this hand yesterday and took us to 6c which went down. Imo at this vul he should have just passed.
-
I also wouldnt recommend putting your time into this, there are many more importent things (and like free i play this for years with no special results) my point was that learning a set of rules is the opposite of expert skills.
-
I Disagree, this system is not for expert as people like to think, its quite the opposite, a pair of experts can look at the all hand and have an understading to which is the ovious shift without a set of rules, using a set of rules is trying to give the intermidiate something that only experts had before, the only need is to remember a simple not long set of rules (which any dummy computer can learn) just like zar points ment to give rules for the intermidiate to get the expert hand evaluation. (im sure zar points would have been mistakely considered expert tool unless zar made it purpose clear more then once)

How to handle this hand
Flame replied to BurnKryten's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
2C is more or less as bad as passing. -
Most good players looks at the all hand before they signal, they will encarauge even with nothing in the suit lead because they know a shift will be worse then continuation, they will discarage if they like the shift. The Ovious shift "system" is a set of rules to determn which suit is the ovious shift suit, this machanical system is set to prevent misunderstanding when the suit isnt ovious, For example if suit 1 is AKJ and suit 2 is xxxx and i discurage the opening lead (in a third suit), without a set of rules one player could think i want a lead in the xxxx suit while the other one ment he want a shift to the AKJ suit, the ovious shift set of rules sets the AKJ to be the ovious shift here. and if you want the shift to the xxxx (the unovious) you need to incarage the lead.

Isnt a bidding like 2sp-3c-3x-3sp a great recepy to get doubled on the 3 level on a 6/7 card fit ? we are telling the opponents we have no fit. I think you should pass with a void in spade and 4 clubs. Your points about the response stucture make sense, but i know that even if i will be convinced that its ok to play this, i will still have to convice my partner which wont be easy. Anyway cant wait to try our new tool.
-
And that would be fine. If a fit will be found your hand is worth game, if not you will still have a chance in 3nt.
-
You can take points down for the misfit. Anyway i dont think its relevant to the question asked here, if this hand is too good, then put a J instead of the Q.
-
I thought about this 5♠-4♣ or 6♠ too and i think we will go for it, sure its not perfect.
-
Thxs for the resposes richard, we decided to play frelling except the 2sp opening . it just that 6 spades and 4 spades/5 clubs are too much apart, i will have a big problem when i hold good support for club and short in spade, and will hve to pass 2sp maybe even with a void.
-
Frelling seems like a great convention, i already asked my partner to play it and hopefully he will agree. I have some questions 1. on bad vul maybe even when everyone is vul, doesnt it make sense to make it 5/4 instead of 4/4 ? 2. Will the 2d opening lead to many bad mp results because we will play partscores in diamonds instead of major ? 3. does the system as published in Chris Ryall's site was updated or is it the one you play ? Thxs for sharing this cool tool.

An expert on BBO should be a player who 1. understand the law of total tricks , 2. can solve 90% of the play/diffence problems in bridge magazines. In reality among BBO experts there are 20-25% would better put adv as skill, 5% should put inter or less.

I dont think you are right here. As i see it he couldnt know anything for sure from the lead, not how many clubs are in each hand and not about the Q of club, so playing the J taking the free finnese is imo the right move. The double finnese line is the "obvious" one, but if you really feel south is long in diamond, other lines like the one chosen might be better, also there is a line of cleaning everything and finnesing to the J of diamond (A played before) this will work when clubs are 3/3 or diamond Q is in north, or when south has 4 cards in diamonds, since he will have nothing but diamonds at this point.
-
The lines presented here are ok, but i think they go down when the cards lay very bad for you, as they did to me. I think there might be an intresting and maybe better line. The lead of trump will seldom be from a singelton, if spades are 3-2 i will make it, so my problem is when the lead was from 4 card suit. How about taking the spade at my hand and finnesing diamond right away, if it loses, east will have no trump (or they break 3-2) if he continue heart, i can play low, and will have 2 high hearts in dummy. Not sure about it. Hands like this one are too complex for me.
-
After 1heart you know you can make 4H, but you dont know if you can make a slam, the best way to investigate for slam is to let partner know about you nice spade suit.
-
" 1♣ 1♠ 2♥ 4♣ 4NT 5♥ 6♥ " I am not a precision player, but it might be better to bid it 1h-1s-3d which show a max with atleast 5-5.
-
check yourself with 4-1 trump break, are you sure ur making ?
-
KQJ KQ76543 AJ10 --- *** A10987 ---- Qx KQ10975 I was playing 4sp today with those hands scoring was total point like. west lead a trump, What is the best line ?
-
IF he double 2sp and one 3c bids 3d it should show what he ment to show. (not a strong super double)
-
I'll tell you the secret in one word simplicity I am reading the forum few times a day, but i dont like reading complex and long posts (like the one im queting i only read the first line. If you make it simple, and the question is also a simple one, you will get many responses.
-
At MP i would have double, this will give give the best score most of the time. At IMP however its not just the likewood of getting a good score, but also how good the score will be, and double will not get us an excelent score while 4sp can. So imp i bid 4sp.
-
why is 2h worse then 3h ? Imo 2h is a little bit better then 3h. My diffence is nice vs a spade contract, especially when im likely to get a ruff. If their fit is in a minor suit, my 3h would give them a nice alternative of doubleing my 3h. I would pass this, but 2h is imo closer then 3h.
