  1. 4540 hands? Open the 4-cd suit and Canape into the 5-cd suit. With 5-4 major hands do NOT Canape, bid them normally. 44(41) hands, 44 majors, open 1♥. 4144, open 1♦ (the suit under the singleton as per Goren). 1444: your choice, open 1♥ if you are comfortable rebidding 1NT with a singleton. Any particular 4441 hand only occurs 0.75 % of all distributions. Occasionally open 1♦ if ♦s are much stronger (for the lead). Rebidding a suit at the 1-level does not promise a Canape.
  2. Schenken used 3♣ as a solid suit with 61/2 - 8 tricks to distinguish it from his 2♣ opening of 10-15 hcp and a good 5-card or better ♣ suit. Therefore, get rid of your 3-suited 2♣ opening, it is not needed and interferes with weaker 2♣ opening hands. Responses: Usually 3NT with stoppers in 2 suits and 2 tricks or better.
  3. That is 7 World Titles for Sonty! Their Precision System is very simple and direct, similar to what Berkowitz played with Larry Cohen.
  4. Currently, we play a Mosca ♣ System with 4-cd Natural Opening Bids of 1♦, 1♥, and 1♠ with canapés into a minor. 1♣ is 15+ hcp usually balanced (75%), or ♣ primary (18%), or very strong (5%), or 4441 with 4♣ (2%). 1♦ is natural but not forcing and includes 5♠/5♥ and 4♦ and 15-16 hcp and ♦ primary hands up to 4 1/2 losers. 1♥ and 1♠ openings can include unbalanced hands of 15+ hcp. 1NT = 11-14 hcp
  5. It depends. How do you show a 20 hcp balanced hand? II suggest this NT ladder: 14-16 1NT 17-19 1♣ - 1♦ - 1NT 20-21 1♣ - 1♦ - 1♥ (4+♥ or balanced 20-21) - 1♠ (dbl Neg., 0-4) -1NT 22-23 1♣ - 1♦ - 2NT 24-25 1♣ - 1♦ - 1♥ (as above) - 1♠ - 3NT
  6. I have played 1♣ - 1NT = G.F. With 5-4 or better in the majors or 4=4=(4-1) for 5 years now and am very satisfied with it. Balanced 8-10 hcp hands are in the 2♦ response as per Rodwell.
  7. Lee spent the rest of his life after the war working for reconciliation.
  8. Search on Bridge Winners for two posts. Multi 2♦ remains Mid-Chart.
  9. I have been playing a hybrid system based somewhat on Fantunes & Nightmare for over 1 year with Canape, weak NT, Strong Club, 15+, and intermediate 2-bids.
  10. In our abandoned Ultra Club Relay we used the Italian Beta Asking Bid for controls (A=2, K=1).
  11. I play a Precision-like System with a natural 1♦ opener, thus I would open this hand 1♦ and Jump in ♣ to show this hand.
  12. An option is to play it similar to Jacoby 2NT, Game Force asking for the singleton/void.
  13. N-S not damaged, result stands. Warning to E-W to know their methods.
  14. Jump to 4NT over 3♣? Terrible bidding. This is not a hand for Blackwood, give N a chance to cue 4♣, thereby showing a void and you find out if he has any kings also by cue bidding 3D (A or K since it is under game).
  15. Balanced 19-20 hands open 1♣ and rebid 2NT. The 1NT rebid is 15-18. Unbalanced hands with 4+♦ and 18+ hcp open 1♦. According to Bill Jacobs' book: Fantunes Revealed, 2012. Edited: 7/6/17 Nightmare uses 1♦ - 1Y - 1NT for the balanced 18-20 hcp hand (1♦ is forcing with 4+♦ & 15+ HCP).
  16. That scheme doesn't work too well because you need it to show an unbalanced 5M hand. Another poor approach is for the major opener to rebid in NT with 5M and 4♣ hand, but that usually gets too high when responder's first response is 1NT. Edit: And opener has to raise to 2NT to show that hand. 7/29/17
  17. Playing 4-cd majors, the bonus is that now opening 1♦ promises 4 or more ♦. You can also make it unbalanced, guarantees a singleton or void. If you are adventuresome you can play Canape, bid your 4-cd suit before a 5-cd suit with 10-15 hcp hands. Canaping into a major from 1♦ should be on the high side of 14-15 hcp. There are many options for the 2-bids. I play Bailey 2-bids with one partner, 8-11 hcp with 6-cd major or 5-4. The bid promises 2 of the other major to allow partner to bail when void or singleton in your major. In another partnership I play intermediate 2-bids, 10-14 hcp. Minors promise 6-cds or a strong 5-4 with both minors. Majors can be a good 5 or not so good 6 carder.
  18. Your bidding implied an unbalanced hand with at least 4♣ and 4♠. More frequently 5♣. Rebid 1NT or open 1NT.
  19. Reverse Flannery, a lame convention? Meckwell play it and I play it with one partner in a Precision context. Considering playing it in a 1♣ forcing, but usually balanced scheme. Ben, why should I not use it in ACBL land? Our 1♦ opening is unbalanced with 4+♦ and unbalanced, 10-18 hcp. Thanks for any insight you can provide.
  20. Sorry, double post. Connection problems.
  21. I have played a scheme similar to Auken's Strong Club and it was my favorite Strong Club version. Now playing with 3 partners, a combination of Nightmare and Fantunes: 1♣ = 15+ hcp: (a) Balanced, 80%, or (b) Clubs Primary with or without a side 4-cd suit, 15%, or {c} Very Strong, 4-losers or less, 5%. 1♦ = 4+♦ & 10-14 & possible canape, or 15-19 hcp 1♥ or 1♠: 4+ cards, unbalanced, possible canape, 10-14 hcp, or 15-17 with 5-cds 1NT = 11-14 hcp 2♣ = 6+♣ & 10-14 hcp 2♦ = 6♦ or 5♦ & 4♣, 10-14 hcp 2♥/2♠ = 10-14 with good 5-cd suit, or not so good 6-cd suit 2NT = Unusual for the minors, 5-5 & 8-12 hcp
  22. Yes. downgrade and open 1♦ (only 4 controls) or open 1♠ to shut out the hearts.
  23. You are correct, declarer does NOT have penalty cards, she does NOT have to play the Q♣. Furthermore, either defender (without consultation) may accept the lead out of turn. Pointing out that declarer led from the wrong hand is NOT a command to lead from the right hand. Larry an ACBL Club Director
