  1. Or you could change responders' replies to 1♣ with weak hands: 1♦ = 0-7 hcp and 4+♥ 1♥ = 0-7 hcp and 4+♠ 1♠ = 0-7 hcp and no 4-cd major Now, opener could rebid 2♣ asking for Aces and Kings (controls). This approach is known as The Millennium Club and has been published in paperback by Poe.
  2. Yes, I still play them and have for 15 years with good results in pairs and team events. Also playing Bailey 2-bids in one partnership. My Houston Precision partner introduced them to me in the 90s and played them against Ron Anderson who called the director to the table several times since he was sure they weren't allowed in ACBL GCC events! http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif The theory is that partner can double for penalty and the opponent's frequently don't compete, or get too high if they do compete.
  3. Although that was a bone of contention in the World Tournament just concluded in Poland, it is not clear that in ACBL games/tournaments that you are not able to open 1D in 3rd position with less than an opening hand.

  6. I am test driving in club games a version of "Millennium Club" with add-ons from Carl Mosca: 1♣(16+ hcp) - 1♦ - (a) 0-5 hcp any distribution (b) 5+ hcp and 4+♥Example: 1♣ - 1♦ - 1♥ (3+♥s, N.F.) - 1♠ (Artificial, bust 0-5 & 0-3♠) 1NT (Artificial, bust and 4+♠) 2♣ (Natural & 5-9 hcp with exactly 4♥) 2♦ (Natural & 5-9 hcp with exactly 4♥) 2♥ (Natural & 5-9 hcp with 5♥)
  7. I would not double, but rebid 3♣ so that over 3♥ you can rebid 3♠. Would this increase your pain?
  8. This seems minor. I'm surprised W bid again, I would pass.
  9. "Putting all 4441s into 1NT creates problems where they did not exist prior to making that choice. It also cannot legally be played in ACBL events." As of August 1, 2016 in ACBLand you may open 1NT with a singleton honor and no doubleton if the honor is an Ace or King or Queen. The Precision 2♦ opening has a frequency of almost 2% of all distributions if you include 4315 and 3415 hands (assuming the standard 4=4=1=4 and 4=4=0=5 distributions).
  10. David Collier's RELAY MILLENNIUM CLUB has a dual 1♦ response, 1♣ - 1♦: (a) Any 0-5 hcp hand without 5♠, or (b) 4+♥ http://www.geocities.../RMC/index.html Added 9/3/16: 1♣ - 1♥ = (a) 6+ hcp & 4+♠, or (b) 0-5 hcp & 5+♠ I am now playing the 1♦ response listed above.
  11. Whoops, we play transfers starting with a cue of opener's suit. That solves some problems. A bid below a cue bid would be constructive but not forcing.
  12. Deleted, wrong question answered. See my post below.
  13. We play a 12-15 NT in our Strong Club system and we can play Puppet Stayman (2♣) and transfers and 4-cd Diamond openings.
  14. Roman Jump Overcalls are similar. I play these in a system called "The Overcall Structure" which includes a Power Double (15+) and 1NT overcall for takeout. There is only one WJO in the system: (1♣) 2♠. http://www.jeff-gold...em/foutnote.txt
  15. I understand the 1♣ opener showing a 4-cd major after 1♣ - 1♦ as I have been playing this way for 15 years: 1) When responder is very weak, you can often play in 2 of a minor with the 4M & longer minor hand. 2) Also the 1♥ Kokish rebid handles the 20+ balanced hands very well and allows playing 1NT when responder has a double negative (<4 hcp) 3) Rebidding 1♥ allows a very weak responder to show a weak hand with 4+ ♠s.
  16. My only suggestion (until I understand your system design): 1NT should have a 3 pt range maximum for better bidding. 2NT should have a 2 pt range for accurate bidding. 1♦ can be balanced OR unbalanced 11-15 hcp? More tomorrow ...
  17. Yes, I love using 1NT response to 1♣ as 5-4 in the majors or better and GF. We also have all the 5-5 GF hands in 1NT. This allows responders 3 bid responses to be Transfers to a 6-cd suit.
  18. [quote name='steve2005' I presume using this method 1♦ promises 0+♦?! Yes, you presume correctly.
  19. The USA is a Republic, the people don't get to vote on everything as in a Direct Democracy. Representatives are chosen to do the will of the people (and special interest groups). :<)
  20. ♦We like a 14-16 NT, now 1♣ - 1♦ - 1NT = 17-19 Make the 2♣ opening promise 6-cds and no 4M Expand the use of the 2♦ opening: 4=3=1=5, 3=4=1=5 Positive Transfer responses to the 1♣ opening works well with acceptance of the transfer showing 3-cd or better support and asking for As and Ks (Beta). You quickly find out if enough strength exists for a power slam. 10 controls minimum for no singleton in either hand. Do away with asking for distribution via relays, especially when playing pairs. Precision Today by Bramley is a reasonable approach with some bells and whistles you might consider. What about 4-cd majors you ask? Try the Diamond Major: 1♦ promises a 4-cd major. This works amazingly well and then you use a 2♦ opening like 2♣. One modification required to play the Diamond Major: Opening 2 of a minor is 10-15 hcp with 6-cds or 5-4 in the minors. http://www.bridgeclublive.com/include/diamond.htm
  21. TylerE said: Really? Your comment in parenthesis is unnecessary and part of the problem.
  22. Free analyzed 100 hands where F-N opened a 2-bid (any suit) and found a net gain of 150 IMPs. Fred G also worried about losing IMPs when playing with Rubin-Ekeblad and their Intermediate 2-bids. This is not an easy issue to analyze. In Rubin-Ekeblad's case, the 2-bids supplemented the rest of the system. In two of my Strong Club partnerships, I do not play weak 2-bids in the majors. See Bailey 2-bids or Heavy weak 2-bids (bridgematters.com).
  23. You missed the correction. Several posts up thread.
  24. Consider 1M = 8-12 hcp? That's what we used for one season of playing a strong diamond system.
