  1. Well, it depends. I played our version of the Millennium Club (weak NT) for about 8 years and was reasonably satisfied with it (except we eliminated the 2♣ rebid asking for controls and substituted 2♦). Have been playing the revised version for about 4 months with a strong NT (increases the number of 1♣ openings since 11-14 is somewhat frequent). The system continues to use the 2♣ rebid as a control ask (after opening 1♣) and any 1-level response. This is a nice convention (was also part of Millennium Club). There are some non-logical follow-ons and 1NT response to any 1-bid is a GF Relay. This makes bidding after opening 1M (5cds) somewhat problematic. However, the relay system is simple (with transfers also) and works reasonably well.
  2. Dummy reversal. Ruff 3rd♦ with A♥. Need Q♥ on side for 10 tricks, whoops contract is for 11 tricks, :(
  3. http://www.q-plus.com/engl/overview/overview_f.htm Has a simple Precision version. It has been years since I used my copy, so I don't remember much.
  4. Partnership agreement - depends what the double signifies by the opponent. My style is to continue to bid your system since this bid takes away no room.
  5. Fill in the ALERT BOX above your bid, before you bid.
  6. 20,000 players on-line and the servers were overloaded. Hoping to improve site tonight. I saw the message while practicing online.
  7. A written defense for a NT defense is NOT required in ACBLand. (1) Written defenses are required in competition of less than 6 boards for 1-bids that are artificial and not strong and shows length in a known suit other than the one opened (Open Chart and Open+ Chart), or (2) Written defenses are required in competition of less than 6 boards for artificial pre-empts below 3NT that does not show at least one known suit (Open+ Chart)
  8. Comment edited above (2/17) to make more sense. TABs rarely used.
  9. Long time Strong Club player here: We play minimum relay methods for suit distribution, but rarely for fragment descriptions. We use Beta (for controls) & for responders suit and SAB-3 (Alpha revised for opener's suit), CABs when slam looks possible. I play this scheme in 2 partnerships for over 10 years now. Edited 2/17 @ 9:30 pm: CABs when slam looks possible (moved)
  10. In 2 partnerships we play 1M - 2♣ as an artificial Game Force asking about opener's distribution. 1M - 3♣/3♦ are fit jumps and invitational or better. I don't remember ever missing the use of a strong jump shift in a minor in two strong club partnerships.
  11. I play a relay in one Partnership, but the 2♣ opening can have a 4-cd major. Too much memory work. :( 2♣ - 2♦ (Asking): 2♥ = Unknown 4-cd Major 2♠ = Unbalanced Maximum 2NT = Balanced Maximum 3♣ = Unbalanced Minimum [Edited 1/25/2020 0855 hrs]I play conditional transfers in another partnership (2♣ promises 6-cds and no 4M). This works well with invitational or better hands, and weaker hands that also have a fit for ♣s. :) 2♣ - 2♦ (Conditional Transfer with 5+♥) 2♥ = 2+♥ and Minimum 2♠ = 0-1♥ and Stopper, min. 2NT = 0-1♥ and maximum with [spade stop] 3♣ = 0-1♥ and minimum 3♥ = 3+♥ and maximum
  12. A useful design for playing match point pairs (maybe not so good for IMPs?). See also The Revision Club System 4th Ed. 2009 by John Montgomery Nightmare http://www.infobridg...htmare_2005.pdf or My version https://www.bridgeba...club-structure/
  13. Ever since I switched to a strong ♣, I have never played a strong 2NT opening. It is easily handled in a strong ♣ or strong ♦ system by making opener's 1st rebid forcing for 1 round: Example playing 14-16 NT 1♣ - 1♦ - 1NT = 17-19 1♣ - 1♦ - 1♥ - 1♠ (0-5 hcp) - 1NT = 20-21 1♣ - 1♦ - 2NT = 22-23 1♣ - 1♦ - 1♥ - 1♠ (0-5 hcp) - 2NT = 24-25 and so on ... This scheme frees up an opening 2NT for other usages: Maybe 5-5 minors or 5-5 majors, or a weak pre-empt in either minor. Opening 2NT is known to be a slam investigator killer.
  14. Well, playing Transfer Precision and transfer follow-ons, the 1♣ opener can discover responder's distribution without opener showing his suit (unless he has a 1-loser suit and slam interest). Useful Space principle. I like their response of 1NT showing ♥s. Even better, use 1NT for 2 or 3 suited distributions, unlikely to play in NT.
  15. Thanks. Very similar to what I play in another partnership.
  16. Cool, as the weak hand can determine the optimum contract best. I tried bidding this with the strong hand captain and bidding became a guessing game since south is so weak. Back to the drawing board. :( 1♣ (15+) - 1♦ (4+♥ & 0-7 hcp) - 2♦ (Beta) - 2♥ (0-1 control) - 3♦ (Natural & forcing 1 round) - 4♣ - 6♣ (Would 4♠ be a CAB looking for 3rd round control?) - - -
  17. There are two possible approaches: (1) Make the 1M response unlimited instead of 0-7 hcp, or (2) 1♣ - 2♣ - 2♦ (Asking about minors, no 4-cd M) Now 2♥ = 5+♣ And 2♠ = 5+♦ 2NT = 5♣ + 4♦ 3♣ = 5♦ + 4♣
  18. Thanks Straube for this thread. This design was an attempt to improve partial score bidding with an emphasis on majors first (MAFIA). The previous design, Ultra Club Relay https://bridgewithda...19/07/Ultra.pdf was a design with 4-cd major transfer positive responses to 1♣. C3: Copious Canape Club is an update of Ultra, not posted on the internet. A recent book by Lyle Poe has a similar theme, Transfer Responses to One Club with Relays Balanced positives can be added to the 1♠ response. Opener accepts the transfer with 3-cd support (if not 4333 distribution) and a minimum. Otherwise, opener bids his 4-cd major at the 1-level or 5-cd suit at the 2-level. To allow for strong hands by opener, we use opener's 2♦ rebid (after an opening 1♣ to be a Beta for Controls to cover 21+ hcp hands, balanced or otherwise. If responder denies a 4-cd major, then opener hides his 4-cd M and finds another bid. There is an investment in negative hands, as they make up about 50% of the responses to a strong ♣, thus this system may be more useful when not playing IMPs.
  19. Whoops! 1♠ response = (a) 0-7 hcp & no 4-cd major, or (b) 8+ hcp and balanced
  20. I have been experimenting with the following strong ♣ design at local clubs: Responses to 1♣ (17+ bal, or 16+ unbalanced) 1♦ = 4+♥ and less than G.F. (8+ hcp) 1♥ = 4+♠ and less than G.F. (8+ hcp) 1♠ = No 4-cd major and 0-7 hcp 1NT = G.F. (a) 5-4 or better in the majors or, (b) any 5-5 2♣ = 5,6-cd minor (either) 2♦ = G.F., 5+♥ 2♥ = G.F., 5+♠ 2♠ = G.F. any 4441 hand
  21. Canape is allowed except in Basic or Basic+ Chart Club/Events. It is a pre-alert before the auction and an alert during the auction when the second, longer suit is bid.
  22. BOOKS (as stated) not internet notes as assumed. I have looked at Viking and GUS relay methods, I prefer to design my own (transfer mostly design).
  23. I have had good success with these responses to a strong 1♣: 1♦ All negatives, 0-7(8) 1♥ 5+♠ or balanced including poor 5-cd suits if 5332 1♠ 5+♥ 1NT all 5-5 and 6-5 hands or 5-4 in the majors 2♣ 5+♦ 2♦ 5+♣ 2♥ 5440 with a 5-cd minor 2♠ All 4441 hands 2NT+ Transfer to 7-cd suits, weak or G.F. Edited: 9/8/19 2 pm EDT Or 1♠ = 5+♥ or 5+♦ 2♣ = 5+♣ 2♦ = 8-10 Balanced
