Who should've done more?
msjennifer replied to JanisW's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
6S is difficult to bid.If the club King is replaced by the Ace then a 4 Heart bid is acceptable. As it is the hand will not be easy to manage on a heart lead and spade Jack not falling. -
Your Next Bid - Again
msjennifer replied to The_Badger's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Partner never guaranteed Aa 6 carder heart suit going by the sequence. -
Preempted...
msjennifer replied to apollo1201's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
5NT .{Given the well explained bidding)The word SHOULD used for the explanation makes me suspect that the PM may be quite funny.! -
Your Next Bid - Again
msjennifer replied to The_Badger's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Assuming you play 3C as a completely NF passable bid ( I would never have bid 3C after partners 2NT) Partner is now suggesting 3D contract. So Pass is the only option for me.Frankly,I would have passed the 2NT bid. -
What do you expect
msjennifer replied to kdr_fm's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I feel it all depends on your definition of the negative double and whether it does or does not guarantee four cards in Hearts. If it does, then I expect a 15/16 HCP hand {no wastage in diamonds.)If 4 cards is not a guarantee then partner will usually have a 5 carder ( a strong 4Carder will do)Hearts suit and 15/16 HCP.and if you play LTC then a 6 loser hand. -
Frankly speaking, it is the ninth card in diamonds which is causing difficulty in bidding. We open 5D only with a rule of minus 500 in mind and purely preemptive. So we open this hand only 1Diamond.But I am not afraid to admit that further bidding is pretty hypothetical.Even the Precision MAESTRO may not be able to find a systematically agreed bidding sequence to reach 7Diamonds.It is easier to bid it when we see all 26 cards ,isn’t it?

Assuming that these days practically all 11pointers are opened there should be no more than 20 points with the opponents. If either of them had a six carder major one would have heard a weak 2S/H opening. There are some more aspects about their not in the bidding. My partner must be haviing 9/10 points and if they are something like Axxx,xxx,J10xx,Ax even 3 NT May be on.I do not care if the opponents who could not assemble a bid on the first round ,will venture to compete at a 3 level.I certainly do not mind losing a board and if I did mind then II would Pass this hand.

The jump sequences described above and the interpretations given in the other posts are definitely useful.Bergen rules out all these developments and hence I ,personally, hate it (Bergen). However ,I doubt If two bidding systems are allowed in a pair event where you play with a new partner every two deals or with a regular partner since the explanations either asked or referred from your system card takes too much time and waste of time and you can’t finish 2boards in the given time resulting in penalties. One has to find out from partners profile/ subtle enquiries. To quote an example,a pair who played Precision when opponents were Red and SAYC when they were white were barred by the director and asked to play only one system or else leave the event.

In 3rd Position
msjennifer replied to The_Badger's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
1Heart.I do want my partner to lead Hearts if LHO declares in NT. If my partner bids 2 Diamonds,I shall rebid 2 Heart, If RHO passes or doubles.( penalty).I shall bid an easy 2/3 club if LHO bids1Spade or 2 Diamonds and partner doubles( negative). -
I am sorry, but my answer to the question posed by giving an example hand is a firm NO.Someone may ask won’t you like to play in 3Diiamonds.? My answer is NO.What does one do if Partner replies 3D and one holds xxxx, xxxx,Void, xxxxx ? One would be playing in an awful 4/5 club contract .I personally, do not like to modify agreed requirements for any bid.Put the 3 HCP anywhere in your example hand and certainly the Stayman bid becomes a safer bid.

Plan the Play
msjennifer replied to The_Badger's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Assuming that the second diamond is going to be ruffed and a spade is returned then what? If the spade AQ are wrong it’s one down.As a novice would play it hoping for split honors in spades ,just draw all trumps and lead a spade. If the honors are split you have 11tricks. -
Garbage Stayman can’t be used over a 2NT opening. It will not serve any useful purpose at all.It will draw only partners wrath and a wry comment Hm.Some Stayman.!
-
HA.Safe lead and watch the dummy and partners discard.

That’s a nice question indeed!!!

Dealng with 'awkward' squad at club.
msjennifer replied to 661_Pete's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I like the strategy suggested by Vampyr.Just say* thank you madam,so nice of you to give me these tips.Hearing this again and again perhaps she may get the message.Else just laugh it off. -
There Aren't Enough Forcing Major Raises
msjennifer replied to Winstonm's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
We play Precision so our bid is an easy 4H.Playing a standard system we bid 2 C which as per the scheme described by kenberg does not pose any further problems as we do not consider the 2C bid to be showing a 5+ suit. -
1S always.1NT nowhere near it except a little wee bit at match points in a trailing session.

Finesse or Drop?
msjennifer replied to dickiegera's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
In absense of any opponent bidding,I shall play for the drop, following the age old advise "with 8 ever with nine never". -
The opening bid depends upon your methods. We do not like to suppress a good rebiddable major suit and so we open such a hand 1Spade.Playing Puppet I shall open it 1NT.Interchange the spades and a minor and it is an easy 1NT bid.As for me,,since we play Precision,it's an easy 1Club opening.

MPs: 3 over 3 decision
msjennifer replied to Mkgnao's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
PASS.I fully agree with the argument put up by kenberg. -
5 level decision with two suiter
msjennifer replied to diana_eva's topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
It is match points and so 5H is what I suggest. At IMP I might oonsider 4NT. -
To be frank the 4S bid by South, with nothing extra and 8 losers ,is far too optimistic..As to the line of play it is all pure guesswork and one's mood at the time.playing !A small spade to the jack and if it wins ash the spade Ace and hope the King appears or it not then hope that he holds 4Diamond cards is a decent line of play.!
-
Abstain.!There should have been a third option namely Nonforcing..We play nonforcing. But if you play 2/1 as game force then obviously you have to play 1NT responce forcing.
-
I feel that using SF's (short forms) for ones profile will hardly make it easier.Better way which I have experienced is to play your partners profile " as you understand it".This creates less bitterness. If the profile says" four suit transfers over 1NT"get it clarified if 2NT is transfer to 3D or natural and invitational.Play to partners profile. SF's will take much time to decipher and hence not good for "individual" events. They will serve the purpose in team events or a pair event with a fixed partner for all deals.

Playing Super Precision I enjoy alerting all time. There are many artificial bids and so a lot of time is wasted and hence it is better not to play too many artificial bids in a pairs event .The procedure in play which is compulsory at present is good enough in my opinion.A player making an artificial bid is required to alert and then explain in full the information implied by the bid which he is passing on to his partner. It should be a detailed explanation when asked for by one of the opponents. An incomplete explanation might result in opponents accusing unfair play or sometimes even cheating.Director when called for will take the appropriate action as per the severity of any infringement.
