  1. Sir.I bid 3D which I ,personally, feel is enough competitive in this position.
  2. A lot depends upon the meanings you give to the bids 1)3H (2)3S and (3)4D. As also the interpretation one gives to the sequence 3S-3NT-4D is doubtful. What does one bid if the HA ie made SA and Hx replaces . say AK-x- etc.Does one bid 3S or not? Its not easy.Personally ,few others may agree, we would bid 4D which is easy for us to interpret as showing 3 outright losers in clubs. Chose the bid according to your agreements and judgement.
  3. Sir,I can't see any hand diagram on my Mac ,yet I can't imagine a hand where one plays in a contract of 2C with 8 trumps with opponents unless one is playing Precision and it goes 2Club all pass and strangely no one making any (not even balancing) bid. A simple 2C overcall is unlikely to be passed out except in some set deal. That apart, it appears that only your pair managed to play in a subpar contract. It is hence natural that you got a subpar result .Well, sometimes it does happen to quite a few.As my grand daddy tells me "Jennifer . On with the game",
  4. Sir,kindly clarify what does one bid ,with your suggested approach, with spades and hearts interchanged and when RHO overcalls 1Spade.Thanks.
  5. SIR,if we were going to bid 1S had RHO passed then we still bid it at this level with 4 cards in spades .Hence our bid of a double DENIES four cards in spade suit. And with full 11 HCP I do not mind competing upto 3 level as all the points appear to be WORKING points with no wasted points any where.Hence it is an easy Double anytime. Of course if the system that one employs a double guarantees a 4 card spade suit then it is advisable to pass just now and play a waiting game.
  6. Sirs Personally, I would open this hand 2C and bid 3S next ,a bid asking partner to show specific Acs/Aces and later the specific Kings and Queens.. as per the scheme elaborated in the article."Embellishments to a 2C opening" published in the Bridge World , and which I got from from my grand father, I feel in 1973.(that is 19 years before I was born) .Of course this is just my passing remark ,THANKS.
  7. Madam/Miss, I concur and agree fully. After the director ruled and one got the full information one may tell that rude opponent "HA HA SEE.I did not have to read any book.!"
  8. SIR,he just can't have SJ as then we shall have to ask for a new pack.AND personally I feel such a hand shall be opened 4S .Pray what shall partner do on KQxxx-xxx-AKx-xx after you pass 2C and it goes-PASS-? Should he tamely PASS or double?.or PERHAPS you suggest bid 2D.(2) IF over the Redbl LHO bids 2C and it goes P-P-?
  9. Sir,Personally I can not visualise a hand holding which the opener bids FOUR spade in this situation.I think that there is a grave misunderstanding about the RD,Althogh I consider the RD as an acceptable bid but the defensive value of the hand is not all that good if RHO bids 2C (if it goes RD-P-P-2C).Before making xx I feel one should consider how one is going to describe this holding to partner.I,personally ,feel that if one is playing negative doubles and mandatory reopening (in the absence of a negative double). then why not PASS and take the decision on the next round ?
  10. Sirs. This hand is not simple to bid a grand playing a standard system. It is easy enough if one is playing the SPIRAL in combination with RKCB and cue bids. After N makes a cue in clubs and later denies the club king ,he gets marked with a singleton club and 7D is then an easy bid as one can count 13 tricks.North can have 4261 or 4351and it is simple addition .Either one can discard a club on the HA (4351) ,OR one can ruff all 3 C losers in North.(4-2-6-1) hand.I have purposely omitted the bidding sequence as other colleagues have already done that. Thanks ALL.
  11. Sir.With due respect to Vampyr it is my experience that against good opponents a weak 2D opening is simply of no use as a preemptive bid.If opps have one or both majors they WILL bid and outbid you. A weak 2D serves just the purpose of informing partner of a possible sacrifice or if he is short in D then a possible double of opponents major suit contract..Since the 1NT response ,in the present case,is forcing the easiest rebid ON THE GIVEN HAND is 2C.However one can get various combinations os say a 15 HCP hand with all the HCP in the majors in a 4-5-2-2 hand, Even then the rebid is 2C.One knows for sure that responder does not have 4 cards in S and 2C guarantees only 2+ cards in clubs suit. With some of my partners I play FLANNERY 2D for such hands.I personally do not know for certain if a convention like GAZZILLI can be useful since I have not studied it in details.
  12. Sir. in specifically a lighter vein I shall consider such a person as IMPATIENT (I'M PATIENT).
  13. Sir and Madam.Just saying that 2S a limit raise is not enough.I shall first ask the opener the detailed explanation of that bid.A limit raise can be made in different ways in this particular auction.I shall have then the bids of (1)Double.(2)3H (3)3S and(4)4S available too me .NO,I shall never bid 3D as if it goes 3D-4H-P-P-? I also do not want partner to lead a diamond a lead which may turn out to be disastrous in case opps play in a heart contract. We have the bid of Double to indicate a 7 losers hand with one sure defensive trick, shortness in heart suit, fairly decent spade support and requesting partner to chose a lead.3D also MAY be taken as a desire informing partner not to lead a club.Since I have only three cards in clubs opponents may have likely losers which may disappear on a diamond lead. Partner will never lead clubs from KJxx if I bid 3D just now.Yes .I know some will say "if he leads a club from AJxx then it will be a disaster if opener has the King but then there is no end to all that. My choice bid here is DOUBLE.. Yes,I know, this bid can have different partnership understandings and so not many will like it. However it all depends upon the answer given by the opener. At IMP scoring my bid is 4S.THANKS ALL.
  14. Sir,In the Precision method which you play, after 1C-2D-2NT.Now this 2NT can be played as BARON(suits up the line) so that you will not miss a club or diamond suit .Ofcourse ,this is just a polite suggestion.
  15. Sir,the Super Precision that we play will also not be successful in discovering all the important cards required like the D10 AND C10 AND the S9,. When we find that the one K is missing we will stop in 6D.The OP has asked about the grand slam in diamonds..My personal opinion ,after seeing the hands is that it is not an absurd one.I shall not repeat how the play will go as the same has been discussed by other colleagues. Our bidding will be 1C-1NT(8-13 can have a 5 card minor but a balanced hand)-2C(RELAY)-2D(4H 8/10)-2NT(Relay)-3D(4D)-3S(spade ask)-3NT(No control)-4C( number of controls?)-4S( 2controls) Opener now has found out HK,CK and DQ(we show a second 4 card suit with at least a Q in it)..Opener signs of in 6D.If responder shows only one control we play in 5D.THANKS
  16. One has to accept AND tick in the box.One gets the confirmation immediately. However certain tournaments are reserved for some categories only.
  17. SIR,With the structure given by you I ,personally ,feel that you give up on the weak 2D opening .It is also my personal opinion that a weak 2d opening is a wasted bid as 1)it occurs rarely .2)Against good opponents it hardly makes any difference to them. Hence one either plays it as multi.or a strong (17/24) any 4441 hand as per the Italian Blue Team Club system or for a 5/5 in minors (with strict rules about the essential requirement of honors in each suit.) The rest of the structure suggested by you seems alright and practical except where opener has a genuine reversing hand with hearts and diamonds but lackin)g a 3 card support for responders major. With such a hand one transfers to 2D and then bid 2H,is'nt it.I would like to know as to how to bid such a reversing hand WITH 3 card xxx support for partners spade suit.
  18. Sir.I too have a similar experience. Before I can observe the profile of the suggested player some one else accepts the invitation.Since the time out for an absent player is Two minutes there may not be any problem in offering 30 seconds.
  19. SIRS.I ,personally ,partially agree with rhm.Certainly, the 2D bid is a NF bid but in no way is it DROP DEAD.However, I feel there is no need to jump to THREE HEART. A 2H bid may be taken as asking for a heart guard and responder may bid 2NT to show one after which the opener may bid 3D to show his intentions to SUGGEST a 5D contract which the responder will pass with a shabby 6 points. And the same bid of 2H MAY help in finding a MOYSIAN 4S contract if responder on some hand possesses say QJx- of S instead of HK.And over 2S ,opener can bid 3D to suggest interest in playing 5D/4S,by inference showing a singleton unwasted heart.Pardon me, my deductions may not be correct as this sequence is rather unusual.I would like to ask an humble question. How is responder supposed to bid on QJ--762--K98542--K2.? after 1C-P-1D-P-1S--P-?.No need to presume that opponents would have bid hearts. And just by the way, sorry,I do not yet know what exactly is XYZ as I am perhaps only at the PQR stage .
  20. MADAM/SIR, The points are useful ones and the 10 of hearts may be the key.My bid at both MP AND IMP is 2NT.
  21. Sir .3S bid after openers 1NT rebid, as we play it, simply asks partner to choose between S and D and shows interest in bidding 6/7 D/S and not 3NT unless he desires to play in 3NT. IF he has a fit he shows it and then cue or KCB(in this hand) may be used.If we wish (on some other hand) to go slowly after 1NT we just bid 2S and over partners 3D we can always bid 3NT if it is MP.There is no confusion whatsoever. I hope it answers your query.THANKS.
  22. SIR I fully agree. However,if the bidding goes 1C-1D-1H-1S-1NT, we bid 3S (and not 2S) as our 2S is forcing upto 3D only after partner has limited his hand by his 1NT (12/14).And 2S-3D-3S as we play now is starting cue bid sequence. Off course either way it does show 5Sand 6D.
  23. SIR,3D could be or may not be a cue bid. This will be clear only on the next round,To me 3D is a forcing bid asking opener to revaluate his hand in light of this bid to be taken as a natural bid right now.Opener may be minimum( as regards HCP) and/or shall revaluate and bid accordingly either 3S/4S.(if one is playing LTC). Any other bid should show a maximum hand(which could not bid 3S earlier)..If one is playing 3D as a game force then openers 3S is almost always a temporising bid allowing responder leeway for further clarification/exploration.
