I was east and had agreed to play SAYC with a different-than-normal partner and we made it to 4♥. I can't see away to make it to slam, which makes easily against practically any distribution without the lead of the ace of trumps and another and still makes against that defense when spades behave.

Now declarer takes 11 tricks when he should only take 10. Leading low should promise 3 or 4 in this case unless it's a singleton and if east is void then the contract's going to make anyway.

  4. actually I mis-remembered the hands, after going back and looking at the hands I fixed it. I opened this complaint thread because he had all 4 kings and anyone can count 13 tricks assuming both missing aces + queen of ♠

  6. I've not been playing long but I recommend you play in the highest level of competition, that's sort of how I started.
  7. I can't reach it either and I'm on my home computer.
  8. [hv=pc=n&s=skq842hakqj65dct7&n=s5h983dj865cqj983&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1hp1n(1%20round%20force)p2spp(%21)d3sp4hppp]266|200[/hv] I open 1♥ with 5-6-0-2 distribution and a 15 count, intending to reverse and rebid spades. GIB responses 1NT and I bid 2♠. It then passes! First of all, I didn't even know you were allowed to pass reverses. Second, shouldn't it take preference to my hearts with 2NT -> 3♥ instead of playing in the likely 4-1 "fit"? East GIB makes a balancing double despite the fact I announced extras (this seems fine though, he had a 14-count with 4-4 in the minors), and I bid 3♠, showing extra length in spades. NOW it takes preference to hearts!
  9. That actually doesn't seem too unlikely.
  10. I can just imagine east's face when west put down the dummy.
  11. I did a manual simulation based on 100 hands. Number of tricks taken: 7: 1 time 8: 7 times 9: 22 times 10: 44 times 11: 20 times 12: 6 times 13: 0 times
  12. I could try that but it wouldn't be that many hands.
  13. IMO ♠5 = 10, ♣T = 9, ♥7 (or 3) = 8, ♦Q = 3
  14. My partnership opens pretty aggressively here, so pass.
  15. I agree with inquiry's line, but I wouldn't be surprised to see, since this is on the forums, that a trump return was the only way to set it.

  17. Actually, you're right, I'm just not experienced with this subject.
  18. It's not logical to assume he's going to continue on this hand once North leads on the first trick (or discards on the trump, for that matter). Even with the dummy, there is some possibility that declarer will take the wrong line.
  19. IMO 4♥ = 10, dbl = 7, 1♥ =6. offensive values and partner is not likely to have diamond honors/♣K
